The Logos of Hermes

It has been a busy and frustrating day
For no sooner than I guided one soul
to the soft sands and warm fire
than another did summon my attentions

Back and forth I strode across the world
my labors unceasing as each wished to talk
upon the journey and relay such truths
as any who would hear will learn.

Such are the paths of those who travel
to and fro upon the word, hearing the stories
learning the byways, walking upon the graves.
Pausing at each pillar to take a moments respite.

Many are those who would silence me
For burdens shared are burdens lightened
and it is the voice which often can lift
a weight from the soul, as a lever lifts a stone.

Make your laws, demand your justice
For I shall slip between the cracks and carry off
the fruit that rots within your care
Granting it to those who grow weak from hunger.

Perhaps I too shall grow fat and lazy
From too many fine meals and soft beds
The chains of comfort weigh heavy upon the feet.
(Pauses, in contemplation.)

Oh heroes, your company is welcome and good
Oh Chorus, your company is welcome and Numerous.
Oh friends, Friends, Kin and Neighbor
let us talk and know each other better

Let the mysteries of the world be hidden
from the sight of those who would use them
to better master Gaia and her children.
Let the truth be veiled in song and myth.

Let those who will look upon the stones
and listen to the songs find their inspiration
with the gifts of my kin and my neighbors.
I shall set a girdle of their dreams upon creation.

Let the walls set around the mind
find their gates unguarded and unbarred
for the thoughts of those who seek an end
to misery that man inflicts upon himself.

Fair merchants, remember that every excess seed
I take from the pyknic and idle I do give freely
to the Gods, for it is their portion that you deny
when you employ your slave to labor in your place.

A task that long languished lays before us,
The pillars defiled, the stones scattered
But it is each traveler that must carry them
One by one, to build back the path that we tread.

Because this piece NEEDS a Coda, and the formatting wasn't portraying it properly by a space, and an ellipse felt cliche.

Thanks to the Muses once again, and thanks to Hermes for his unique viewpoint.

@Lookout I'm always amazed afterwords how easy it was to write.

The music... just felt appropriate.

Thanks as always to Hermes, and to the muses, for I enjoy praising them for their efforts.
