Oklahoma Legalized Medical Marijuana For Anyone Whomever a Doctor Thinks Needs It

Oklahoma is a very Red State so it's surprising that people voted to legalize marijuana for medicinal use. Utah is voting on this later this year, but I would be very surprised if it passes. But then Utah legalized same sex marriage before the Supreme Court made it the law of the land so maybe there's hope that it will pass. (X'd fingers)

Vermont's legislature legalized marijuana for everyone earlier this year and instead of making people buy it at Pot Shops they are allowing everyone to grow up to an ounce at their homes. Vermont's laws

DEEP RED OKLAHOMA JUST PASSED A VERY PROGRESSIVE LAW LEGALIZING MEDICAL WEED

Oklahoma, one of the reddest and most conservative states in the U.S., voted Tuesday to legalize marijuana for medical purposes, adopting some of the most liberal weed laws in the union.

Voters approved State Question 788 by 56.8 percent, despite a concerted effort against the bill by law enforcement, religious groups, and the business community.

The decision, which makes Oklahoma the 30th state to legalize and regulate medical weed, allows those given a two-year license to possess up to eight ounces of marijuana, six mature plants, and six seedlings, as well as edibles and concentrated forms of the drug.

Controversially, Oklahoma’s law allows doctors to use discretion in prescribing the drug to any patient they think will benefit from it, unlike most other states, where the substance is only available to those suffering from a set list of ailments.

It was the lack of such a prescribed list that sparked a backlash from the law enforcement community and a last-ditch $500,000 advertising blitz by an opposition group to try to derail the vote.

Schumer is one of a number of democrats who have changed their minds about keeping it illegal and he has written legislation to have it removed from the controlled substances list which in my opinion should never have been on it. I'm pretty sure that his pharmaceutical donors will not be pleased with him. This would have been a huge deal if Obama had done that when he had the votes to do so. The next thing that needs to happen is for the people who are in prison because of marijuana laws to be released. I think a few states that have legalized it are doing just that.

@Tall Bald and Ugly

that people are still being sent to prison for having a drug that more than half the country has legalized in one form or another. On a side note, look at how many people are in prison for using crack cocaine while people who are more rich or more white get little or no time for using powder cocaine which costs much more than crack. This disparaging in sentencing happened when Bill passed the crime bill. Gotta lock up those super predators don't we?

Corporate capture complete, that was fast. And why I voted no on Prop 64. I can't afford legal cannabis starting tomorrow, good fucking luck surviving my symptoms when I run out next month. Then what? I don't know, no one cares, it doesn't matter. Nothing matters.
California marijuana retailers say state rules could force them to destroy millions of dollars' worth of product

All marijuana sold in California by state licensed firms will be required starting Sunday to undergo new testing for quality and toxins, but retailers warn they face financial hardship because they will have to destroy tens of millions of dollars' worth of untested product still on their shelves.

The United Cannabis Business Association led 128 cannabis businesses and advocacy groups in petitioning Gov. Jerry Brown Friday to indefinitely extend the period for selling marijuana products that do not meet the new testing standards to avoid forcing some licensed firms out of business.

"This really is the destruction of the whole supply chain," said Jerred Kiloh, president of the association, which represents 76 retailers in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Northern California, Cloverdale has zero dispensaries because it's a cesspool of good old boys and girls. They'd rather exploit their immigrants in the hotels and vineyards around here, not provide cheap legal medicine. Nothing says opioids like a ban on cannabis. It's important to some people to make granny suffer before she dies. "That's the system."

Californians approved marijuana legalization in 2016, and the state began issuing licenses for growing, testing and selling marijuana Jan. 1 with some limited testing requirements. But many retailers stockpiled large amounts of cannabis harvested before Jan. 1, which was not required to be tested.

The state agreed to delay more costly requirements – including more comprehensive testing, labeling and childproof packaging – until July 1 to allow new businesses to get on their feet financially.

The Brown administration has no plans to delay the new testing requirements, said Alex Traverso, a spokesman for the state Bureau of Cannabis Control.

It's a plastics nightmare too, there is nothing medicinal left in the cannabis "industry" here, it has all gone to graft and greed. Get BIG or get out, and the ecocide continues. wah

@eyo of plastic in the packaging is ridiculous! In Cali we have to use four times the weight of the weed in fucking Plastic to 'protect the children'!
Anybody ever try to open a plastic envelope with a childproof ZIPPER on it?!? When you're 70% on one hand and about 80-85% on the other?
Good Luck is Right!

eyo, do I gotta start making a monthly samaritan run south?

towards removing all constraints upon marijuana use. It is good to know that those who need medical marijuana have another state in which they may legally purchase it. We must ensure that those who have been imprisoned for marijuana must not only be released, but have their records expunged.

The United States has the highest prison population in the world, many of who were convicted of drug offenses. The cost of incarceration is enormous, both to the tax payer and to the individuals whose lives are ruined as a result of a drug conviction.

In federal and state prisons across the United States, prison incarceration for drug offenders have increased over the last few decades. Eighty percent of incarcerations in state’s prisons are low level drug offenders who are incarcerated due to possession with the intent to sell any amount of illegal drugs. A solution to this problem would be to use other alternatives such as treatment programs, individual counseling, rehabilitation, etc. to decrease the prison population. For example, Pinellas County, Florida saved approximately $589,160 through drug courts by diverting drug offenders from the state prisons.

According to this article, the yearly cost of incarceration (2016) per prisoner in a state facility ranges from $25,000 to over $60,000. The number prisoners in the federal system for drug offenses is over 79,000. The yearly cost per federal prisoner (2014) is just under $31,000.

Big Pharma moving into the marijuana business

It's only a matter of time before the USG says you have to take FDA-approved weed for seizures, meaning your marijuana prescription will probably not be honored for epilepsy treatment and the sick must buy their CBD through Big Pharma. And then another slightly different CBD + THC formulation will be produced by Big Pharma to treat pain, headaches, etc. Which will the divert usage away from small dispensaries/retailers to Big Pharma.
