Hillary: Bernie Bros Are Unshaven “White Supremacists”

Make no mistake, NY Times reporter Amy Chozick is a BIG Hillary supporter.
But her new book, Chasing Hillary, has some juicy nuggets.

In the public’s mind, Clinton’s “deplorables” quip is remembered as evidence of her disdain for much of Trump’s fan base. But there was one other group Clinton had a similar dislike of: Bernie Sanders supporters. As one person who had talked to Clinton about the difference between Trump and Sanders crowds recounted, her feeling was that “at least white supremacists shaved.”

Progressives are simply the lowest of the low to the Democratic establishment.
No wonder they would rather lose to a Republican than win with a progressive. For them it's a lesser-of-evils choice too.
You are I are closer to animals than human beings in their eyes.
It's about more than just corruption. It's about classism.

It was in the company of friends and acquaintances paying mountains of cash that Clinton came up with “Friends don’t let friends vote for Trump,” “I stand between you and the apocalypse,” and the notorious “deplorables” line. It “always got a laugh,” writes Chozick, “over living-room chats in the Hamptons, at dinner parties under the stars on Martha’s Vineyard, over passed hors d’oeuvres in Beverly Hills, and during sunset cocktails in Silicon Valley.”

We seem to be on the edge of France in 1789, or Russia in 1917.
Both political parties are completely cut off from the working class. They have no idea at all what is going on in this country.
Eventually even working-class liberals will figure this out.

For the moment, the Democratic establishment is still winning.

So far, in every swing seat race that pitted a more left-wing nominee against a party-favored center-left nominee, the left wing has lost.

Or to put it another way.

In the Senate, Democrats in Washington have essentially cleared the field in every remotely competitive race this fall, including several GOP-held seats where the party hopes to win and tip the majority in its direction.

So the people who have led us to disaster are still calling the shots.

This story isn't over by a long shot.
After very modest and unremarkable gains in 2018, we will see an economic crash yet again. And once again, those same Democrats will work with the Republicans to screw over the working class that they have nothing but contempt for.
Except this time the anger will be much worse, and things will change.

I can’t believe I used to fall for this nonsense! It takes a stupendous level of cognitive dissonance to simultaneously celebrate the fortunes of someone from a specific identity while looking past the vast sea of people from said identity who are stuck in gut wrenching poverty. We pop champagnes for the neo-gentry while disregarding our own tribulations. It’s the most stunning form of logical Ju-Jitsu establishment shills have successfully conditioned us to accept; instead of gauging the health of the economy and the vitality of our nation based on the collective whole, we have been hoodwinked to accept the elevation of a few as success for us all.

Diversity has become a scam and nothing more than a corporate bamboozle and a federated scheme that is used to hide the true nature of crony capitalism. We have become a Potemkin society where tokens are put on the stage to represent equality while the vast majority of Americans are enslaved by diminishing wages or kneecapped into dependency. The whole of our politics has been turned into an identity driven hustle. On both side of the aisle and at every corner of the social divide are grievance whisperers and demagogues who who keep spewing fuel on the fire of tribalism. They use our pains and suffering to make millions only to turn their backs on us the minute they attain riches and status.

BRUTUS: But ’tis a common proof
That lowliness is young ambition’s ladder,
Whereto the climber upward turns his face.
But when he once attains the upmost round,
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend. So Caesar may.
Then, lest he may, prevent.
[...]
And therefore think him as a serpent’s egg—
Which, hatched, would as his kind grow mischievous—
And kill him in the shell.

-- William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Act II, Scene 1

We obviously need to put an end to the little "Caesars" who inhabit our political world. And for the exact same reason facing Brutus and his fellows: the access of the "Caesars" to power is incompatible with the existence of the Republic -- then and now!

Here in Pennsylvania it was next to impossible to learn anything about many candidates.

Some of the top posts were uncontested. The Lt-Gov race is interesting, with two acceptable candidates among the five in the running.

At the Congresscritter level it was a head-scratcher. In my district, the erstwhile Goofy-Kicks-Donald one, and a critical swing district historically though now usually blue, there were a dozen candidates, and I talked to many people here to see if anyone actually knew more than the barest hearsay about any of the candidates. No one knew anyone. No real platforms, just a few platitudes that no one would argue with. Most of those in the race didn't even bother taking any position at all.

And then there are the Committee people. Twenty-five candidates in my district, and no one knew who these people were.

I did not Demexit in 2016 because PA has closed primaries and I don't like politically to disarm myself completely. But this election came without any signposts to tell you where you were. The local committees were too lazy to help voters find information ("We don't know, you tell us!" was what my neighbor got out of them). Or maybe they just didn't want anyone to be an informed voter. Either way, it could mean little betterment of the mess we have for politics in PA.

. . . with more than 2/3 of the votes counted, let's look at the six who are doing best . . .

Democratic Primary
Percent Candidate Votes
27.1% Mary Scanlon 11,182
18.6% Rich Lazer 7,670
14.3% Ashley Lunkenheimer 5,883
10.3% Molly Sheehan 4,232
8.2% Greg Vitali 3,382
7.5% Lindy Li 3,111

Mary Scanlon is pretty damned status quo, an advocate for pre-K education, doesn't like Trump of course but wants to go slow raising the minimum wage and wishes college didn't leave students in debt and suchlike.

Rich Lazer, a millennial, claims he's a Berny guy, but is pretty damned naive, thinks the Russians meddled and Assad gassed his people, is running as the Labor candidate (in a largely working-class district) and was the Philly mayor's labor lieutenant, but is clearly in the process of being captured by the notoriously corrupt labor/Dems machine here.

Ashley Lunkenheimer, a lawyer, ran because of Trump, and had her very restore-the-status-quo campaign funded by a SuperPAC to which her family were contributors. Not exactly our idea of a progressive.

Molly Sheehan, 32, a biochemist and ardent advocate of single payer and free college, was endorsed by two chapters of Our Revolution (which did not endorse Lazer). She's nowhere near as lefty as C99ers, but she was the best of a tepid lot.

Greg Vitali, a state representative for many years, was the voice against the frackers and for environmentalism in Harrisburg. He's a one-issue candidate but at least it's a good issue.

Lindy Li, 27, is a comfortable Princeton grad who has some business on the Main Line. She thinks the Russians are afoot, and wants to protect women in an anti-woman age.

So, I gather at least around here that the progressives are not winning in any big way. They're visible as much as anyone has been, but in general they are not winning. OTOH, John Fetterman, who famously endorsed Bernie in 2016 but lost his race for the Senate primary that year, has won the Lieutenant Governor primary, for whatever the LG post is worth -- better name recognition for something else someday?

The problem is, Democrats have a giant blind spot that keeps us from seeing why we’re failing and why we have so little credibility with voters who should be part of our natural base: Democrats have a classism problem.

If someone assembled an all-male committee to make decisions on women’s health, Democrats would immediately howl that this was unacceptable. If anyone formed an all-white committee to make decisions on racial justice, the party would rightly scorn it. But somehow, it hasn’t occurred to Democrats that as we need ethnic and gender diversity, we need economic diversity as well. We should insist that workers be included in the discussion of policies affecting the multi-racial working class.

The party is certainly conscious of the electoral importance of working people. We use them as props in campaign ads and as human backdrops at rallies. We’ve used focus groups to conduct a sort of condescending anthropological research on our fellow citizens. We’ve done everything but elevate actual working-class citizens into Congress.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

Fabulous observation, gjohnsit. It seems that this phase is popular ..

"And once again, those same Democrats will work with the Republicans to screw over the working class that they have nothing but contempt for"

That there are still so many people who can not see this is baffling. The kos kids apparently don't want to remember what the democrats did in 2006 after we had been suffering under Bush and the republicans and they told us that they would help us if we gave them the house. Or that instead of focusing on the devastation from the housing crisis and the number of jobs lost that they spent two whole effing years working only on their serious flawed ACA.. no jobs bill, no stopping the banks fraudulent robo home foreclosures or anything that would have helped stop the bleeding.

Trump and the republicans are doing worse things than Bush did and people are going to look at the democrats to stop him from doing even more damage so people are thinking that if the democrats take at least one branch they will slow him down. But what they are refusing to see is that quite a few democrats are helping them to it. More than a few helped pass the ginormous military budget with the $80 billion increase that is half of Russia's whole budget. The Resistance voted to give Trump more power to spy on us and Hillary's progressive VP candidate is trying to give Trump the power of never ending war.

I really don't get it. How can people be so willfully blind to the fact that there is no difference between the two parties? Yes people are still being told off for saying that on ToP. Plus a few of them have such fondness for the blue dawgs!

Ah, yes. I received an email just this morning castigating anyone who dares call out today's Dems for being Eisenhower Republicans just because Trump's a GOPper.

There's just no hope for some people, alas.

"We" may not win back the Senate or the House this year, but there Will be progressive victories. How many remains to be seen, but 2018 will Not see a total victory for the Hillary /NeoLib wing of the party. "We" will win a few.
Tonight two DSA socialist state house candidates won against neolib incumbents in PA! Socialists! Actually winning a real election! Two, in fact.
" Two Socialists In Pennsylvania Just Won Victories Democrats Can’t Ignore"
So... so it's happening. Not as quickly as we'd like, maybe, but it is happening.
And if things go as expected - or at least as I expect - "we" win back the House and Senate in 2020.
