Friday Night Photos - Grey Skies Edition

Cold and wet again, so here's a certain small person enjoying the fire in deepest midwinter.

Time to put on the overcoat and go for a walk.

Keep warm everyone.

to look into what would be required to make and post home-made videos with sound. I don't have an app to edit video from my camera and haven't looked into how easy or difficult it is to download onto you tube, but I think I'd enjoy it.

I'm playing with one that lets me do time lapse videos on my iPad. Wish I had figured it out for last night during an incredible thunderstorm. I kept taking pictures of lighting strikes thinking I'd get one, but no luck.

I gotta time lapse on my smartphone. I took a slo- mo of a campfire and it was mesmerizing to watch. You have to let it record for a long time though.

That looks so inviting. The glow of the fire actually makes me feel warm. Not warm or cold here, just rainy. Soon I'll build a fire to make it more comfortable.

My pot-luck contribution to photography today ...

I’m not a chapel-goer, but I’d happily go to this one if I were in Finland.

These below are Ruby-throated Hummingbird taken last Sept. here. Our breeding hummer is Black-chinned though. We are currently using about a gallon per day of fluid (4 to 1 water to sugar most closely matches real nectar). Multiply fluid ounces used daily by 4 (they weigh a quarter ounce and consume their weight daily) to get an approximate number of hummers you have.

I took a trip up the coast to see the SF Art Market at Ft. Mason. They have galleries there from all over the world so it's a good window on the current scene. What's new? Resin covered paintings. I cringe at the decomposition possibilities. Pun intended. More plastic! But oh so easy to clean!

...the eerie ghost. I laughed out loud and then again when I thought of it later. Friday is hard for me, so this late reply may fall into the abyss of the interwebs. Anyhow... That was a pictures hanging in one of the booths. It is a picture of people swimming, taken from below looking up through the water. But what struck my eye was the reflections of the lights in the picture. The combination was wonderful. Thanks for the laugh!

Daenerys's picture

We had two orioles in our yard the other day:

And this female rose-breasted grosbeak:

I'd love to see a male here but no such luck so far.
A fabulous grackle:

More grackles at my new seed tray (the old one got broken by a raccoon); it's funny to see how many can fit on it at once:

(With one red-winged blackbird; I also have a pair of brown-headed cowbirds that come to it. My dozen or so dark-eyed juncos were replaced entirely by grackles pretty much overnight a while ago. We also saw a yellow-headed blackbird here the other day.)
This solitary sandpiper flushed and landed right in front of where I was standing when my husband shot at a rabbit:

And one more oriole:

I haven't seen any for a couple days now.

We also have a few goldfinches, and yesterday I was looking out the window and saw my mom's cat catch and eat one! It was sitting on a low branch or on the tall grass. She ate the whole thing, except for a few feathers! Shok Cats!! I know they eat them sometimes but I'd never actually witnessed it before.

Another early morning tomorrow. Cheers all.

Wanted to post a couple of new photos, but my scanner's been on the brink. Finally, got a replacement--just to realize that it won't scan photos. (It's an Epson portable, so we could have it on-the-road.) So when we get home, I'll have to figure out if my old flatbed scanner still works for photos. Out of the blue, one day, it quit copying PDF files which we need for personal/business reasons.

Anyhoo, hope Everyone has a very lovely Mother's Day weekend, and safe travels.
