So you've never been to Chappaquiddick

With the movie coming out and all, I thought for all of you that have never been to Chappaquiddick I’d share some on the ground information with you that never gets talked about.

So, you take the ferry from Edgartown to Chappaquiddick. There is a paved road that circles the island leading to the public beach on the south side.

About a mile and a half down the paved road it turns right, if you go straight you enter a pot-holed 1 mile dirt road that leads to the SAND DUNES on the east side of the island and the bridge.

Halfway down the dirt road is an air station so that beach going 4 wheelers can reinflate their tires after they have let air out to navigate the SAND DUNES.

So, you reach the bridge. It is approximately 15 to 20 yards in length and a car width wide spanning a tidal estuary. Atop the posts anchoring the bridge is a railing approximately a foot off the deck comprised of 8x8 boards.

On the other side of the bridge is —————— SAND DUNES!

You can’t drive your Oldsmobile on the SAND DUNES even if you want to really get laid. You have to walk across like regular humans and bring a blanket and bug spray. If you’ve ever camped out on SAND DUNES you know what I’m talking about.

Anyhow, it was all a bullshit cover up. He wasn’t drunk, he was plastered. The diver that recovered Mary Jo’s body estimated she was alive for 10 to 30 minutes in the car before she drowned. Other interesting factoid, her underwear was missing.

Lion of the Senate my ass. People want to accuse others of White Privledge? Look no futher, its name is KENNEDY.

..... is usually applied to those who don't have it (us poors) by those who do have it (people with 6-figure incomes regardless of their skin color, gender, or other status) to shut us up. Mustn't allow class to enter the discussion, you know.

And yes, the treatment of Mary Jo Kopechne is a perfect example of affluenza.

they'd made Ted wear an ankle bracelet for years like the affluenza kid.

he ran away to Mexico and he and his mom got in some type of trouble there. So he ended up spending two years in prison after shoplifting beer, getting drunk on it and Valium and then wrecked his car and killed 4 people.

Now how many years do people that were caught with some weed spend in prison? Or for the minor crimes others commit? White privilege.

I've been to various locales on Cape Cod Dull, grey weather hasn't inspired me to return.

I'd rather have the dull, grey weather of the coast of Devon.

It's the exact same dull grey weather: the warm, water-vapor-rich Gulf Stream colliding with Canadian cold currents.

That was it, I think. Most people don't know there were three judicial proceedings. Maybe more--those are the ones I know of.

A older Irish woman told me a story, probably apocryphal: at the time, reporters swarmed the Cape and environs. One of them asked a local if he believed that Kennedy had swum all that distance wearing a brace. With heavy Massachusetts Irish accent, the local replied: "Mr., he's a Kennedy. He coulda walked on the water."

As a poster on another board noted: "Imagine finding yourself inside your car in the ocean at 1 am. Now, imagine doing that drunk."

Teddy was a major force behind stopping Cape Wind project. The principles of Cape wind told me that the project would go ahead only after the Senator was in a permanent recess. He had fond memories of sailing in Nantucket sound in his youth. The thought of changing that view experience for the good of Earth's climate and perhaps the survival of our species was intolerable to him. Hope you are enjoying the view now, asshole.

There is no justice for the privileged. Were they worth it, are they ever worth it?

Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.

Some views aren't to be messed with, white powerful privilege or not.
We faced the same thing here a few years back, maybe 5 years now. Time flies.
Big Wind (some Euro company) wanted to set up shop where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River at a tiny village called Cape Vincent, about a 35 min. drive from where I live. Well, the towns people, all 200 of them, fought Big Wind for two years to stop them from blocking their view. They finally won, sending Big Wind packing. Now, Cape Vincent ain't Nantucket, but it does have a damn fine view nonetheless! Big Wind, however, came back a year or two later and built their Wind Farm on the Canadian side of the border - maybe 400 yards or so from their original intended location. Just for spite I suspect, giving the little people a big phat middle finger. Point being, there are Plenty of spots for Wind Farms without taking up one that historically has provided a most excellent view (and tourism). I'm Strongly in favor of Wind Farms, but Not In My Back Yard if my back yard provides a view that attracts tourism which attracts commerce. I don't blame Teddy. There's plenty of ocean, but there aren't that many Nantuckets. Or Cape Vincents neither.

by the time it got to Teddy. He was called upon to show his true character, and he did.

I always figured him for a coward who tried to spend the rest of his life ‘rehabilitating’ his reputation.

I don’t think (this is my impression) that people who were politically aware at the time cut Teddy as much slack as those who came up after we did. I remember talking to people back then and there was extreme disappointment and disgust over the events at Chappaquiddick. Particularly in regard to his bullshit excuses for what he up to in the first place. Teddy and his handlers talked to the world like we were all a bunch of dirty minded idiots.

Maybe he changed after Kopechne’s death. Maybe he did try to atone for his cowardice that night. But it was too late. That hiding out all night did him in.

That would only be possible if air had been retained in the car from the time it hit the water, which would only be possible if the windows and doors had been closed at the time the car was submerged.

It does not appear possible that Kennedy was in the car at that point, to escape without his date following him, unless he possessed the ability to pass through solid objects without letting water flood in.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
