OT ~ Welcome to Saturday!

Sit-a-while
on swinging porch
where tin-dippers and
sweet water
in cool touches
meet lips
from hand dug wells.

Good morning good people!

Here we are,
safe from swirling indignities directed by digital wolves wearing furs,
pitching entrance into heaven and virgins if you buy a gun,
or
the guy next door, your friend, is your enemy;
barkers so shrewd in analytic delivery,
repeating horse-whisperings,
planning the suspension of disbelief,
and the burning of books.

Tis an old tale woven in concreted tunnels by machines eternal ...---...

"Prometheus, that potter who gave shape to our new generation, decided one day to sculpt the form of Veritas using all his skill so that she would be able to regulate people's behavior. As he was working, an unexpected summons from mighty Jupiter called him away. Prometheus left cunning Dolus in charge of his workshop, Dolus had recently become one of the god's apprentices. Fired by ambition, Dolus used the time at his disposal to fashion with his sly fingers a figure of the same size and appearance as Veritas with identical features. When he had almost completed the piece, which was truly remarkable, he ran out of clay to use for her feet. The master returned, so Dolus quickly sat down in his seat, quaking with fear.

Prometheus was amazed at the similarity of the two statues and wanted it to seem as if all the credit were due to his own skill. Therefore, he put both statues in the kiln and when they had been thoroughly baked, he infused them both with life: sacred Veritas walked with measured steps, while her unfinished twin stood stuck in her tracks." ~ Aesop, Fables 530 (from Phaedrus Appendix 5) (trans. Gibbs) (Greek fable C6th B.C.)[6]

Today's art by David Hockney and Marina Abramović

“A day spent without the sight or sound of beauty, the contemplation of mystery, or the search of truth is a poverty-stricken day; and a succession of such days is fatal to human life.”
~ Lewis Mumford

Speaking of swirling, if you are reading, i presume we are both safe from nature's wind: gusting more than 100 up top and 70 down here yesterday and today. Hoping all are secure and having an enjoyable weekend!

@eyo
least a couple of inches of rain in the last 3 days or so, so hopefully we have some deep saturation. It is alleged that if one breaks up the top layer at times like this then the evaporation will be reduced and the water will stay much longer. I hope to test that theory, but not starting until after today.

You post makes me miss the big mountains, the Rockies and Oregon, especially. Maybe someday, i can get back; been about ten-12 years since i last taught at 'Breck' and my youthful years in Steamboat and Mt. Ashland just over the Siskiyous from you and not so far from el.

Fellow instructor just returned to our mountain today, has worked in Tahoe for years; was good to see her and one of our trainers spends xmas holidays coaching at Mammoth with his resident brother each year. The ski community is much like the theatre community, it's a big country but both, comparatively, are small professions in numbers and if one survives and gets around, we've friends all over, a warm feeling when loneliness creeps.

As always, thanks for being here and keeping the lights burning.

very interesting--close the eyes and it could easily come from an American President...

"I propose launching a programm to establish cultural, educational and museum complexes in the regions. They will offer concert venues, drama, music and dance schools and other creative institutions, as well as exhibition spaces where the country’s leading museums can display their treasures. Why store so many works of art in museum warehouses? I am talking about centers of culture that would be open to young people and people of all ages. The first project of this kind will be carried out in Vladivostok, and other regions and cities across Russia will be selected at a later time."

fantastic, thanks. Only moderate winds here, off and on and sporadic but often heavy rains. Today is allegedly the last for a while so fertilizing and planting can start.

Glad you enjoyed Hockney's painting; entranced, i was, when first seeing it as well.

Happy you can soon begin the outside plantings; enjoy your labour of love.

And thanks for the music in today's thread and for keeping the OT going in my absence.

Most of my painting didn't amount to much; becoming muddy colors...thankfully, my son has his grandma's gift.

Have a great evening.

to post that:
Melania Trump got green card through program for people with ‘extraordinary ability’: report
So ... ack ... yack ... no, I shut up. But then I earned my green card for life the hard way, I won it in the lottery. No dating millionaires involved. You just had to be picked at the right time, in the right moment, by the right people from a high stack of applications... almost like Melania has been... it happens mysteriously./s

The first lady in 2001 was given a green card through the elite EB-1 program, The Washington Post reported.

The EB-1 program is reserved for people such as academic researchers and multinational business executives, as well as people who have shown "sustained national and international acclaim," the Post noted

“We called it the Einstein visa,” former Rep. Bruce Morrison (D-Conn.), at the time the chairman of the House subcommittee that wrote the Immigration Act of 1990 defining EB-1, told the newspaper. ...
The Post reported that Melania Trump — who came to the U.S. from Slovenia in 1996 — was one of five people from Slovenia to get green cards in 2001 through the program.

According to government statistics, only 3,376 of the more than 1 million green cards issued in 2001 were for immigrants who had "extraordinary ability."

Extraordinary abilities ... I bet she is so good at her abilities that she can qualify in Putin's world as a great Russian spy. Ah, wouldn't that be a juicy story? Sigh, too bad I never read fiction. I should do it once in a while. Do you see the movie to that already in your mind? Hollywood DC, go to work. That will be a great script. James Bond's women weren't even as pretty as she is ... for a spy who came out of the cold.
Biggrin

Have a nice weekend. The East Coast 99percenters: stay safe and warm. German news shows bad pictures about your winterstorms and coastal floodings. It's a day to stay in bed and ... hug someone to stay warm.

Thank you for that piano song. Absolutely beautiful. I keeep replaying it. The tones are haunting.

“A day spent without the sight or sound of beauty, the contemplation of mystery, or the search of truth is a poverty-stricken day; and a succession of such days is fatal to human life.”

I agree. Even though I walk at the cemetery day after day for over 7 years, I still see something beautiful each day. The dawgs also find something new to smell and unfortunately eat.

play it over and over as i do with most good music i enjoy, drives my good neighbor upstairs crazy, at times; especially, if the music has a constant bass beat.

Good to see you and cheers to being here!

I hope everyone who had high winds weathered the storm O.K. Here in south Texas we have been having rain and mild temperatures. It looks like spring here, things are greening up.
