Tulsi Gabbard gave Bernie Sanders an endorsement. He gave her a platform on war and peace.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. —The thousands of people who have streamed to Bernie Sanders’s rallies around the country in recent days have been treated to an opening act -- Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii -- who arguably does more to articulate Sanders’s views on foreign policy than he does.
Gabbard, 34, who resigned as vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee last month to endorse Sanders for president, has been tasked with introducing him at recent events, including one here Thursday that drew more than 5,000 people.
Unlike the Vermont senator, who focuses heavily on domestic policy at his rallies, Gabbard is talking about U.S. entanglements abroad. And she doesn’t pull any punches when relaying what she sees as a crucial difference between Sanders and her party’s front-runner, Hillary Clinton.
A number of us would like to see the Party back away from its recent interventionist leanings, but with remaining 4 Repug deek wavers running for the nomination wanting to get us deeper into war in ME, we are probably not going to get the Dems to go full-throated for peace and call out loud for an end to US policy of endless war.
What if Bernie were to add a woman to his ticket, a veteran of recent foreign conflicts, an a congressperson to boot?
Interesting notion there, Van….
Jill Stein, she's not. How much is she different from Hillary, Obama? She has been critical of Obama, but....
What do you think?

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
In an absolutely amazing coincidence,
The "play" button on that video is superimposed right on the crossbar of the letter H in the word NOTHING!

I can't imagine Hillary saying this:
"Establish a foreign policy based on diplomacy, international law, and human rights. End the wars and drone attacks, cut military spending by at least 50% and close the 700+ foreign military bases that are turning our republic into a bankrupt empire. Stop U.S. support and arms sales to human rights abusers, and lead on global nuclear disarmament."
And that's Direct from Stein's Website. http://www.jill2016.com/plan
However, would I LOVE a vet in office who knows exactly how to tell the MIC to take a flying leap and where to land? Absolutely.

Hey detroitmechworks, yes would love to have someone
talking reality to them.
Thanks for the quote from the fearless Dr. Stein, who was arrested 4 times during her last run for President speaking truth to power.

Didn't Bill cut military budgets in the 90's?
A Hillary loving friend says that was how Bill ended his term leaving a budget surplus. I am not defending Hillary here - just asking. I am pretty close to pacifist in my thinking - that means the military role is defensive and humanitarian. Though I am not full blown pacifist as there is a time for intervention, and military does not run by committee. This means we need a person with a strong and steady moral compass at the helm. I think this must be one of the toughest parts of the job.
I am not sure I like Tulsi as VP - she seems kinda young. But I like her moral compass credentials.

Bill cut the Military Budget, yes...
but not the defense contractor budget.
Subtle difference there, but meaningful. Essentially he reduced soldier's pay and benefits, helped shred the GI Bill further, and did many other nice things that showed he was taking on the military, but ended up only hurting the soldiers. Lots of the problems at the VA can be traced to his administration.
The Contractors all got paid. On time, and in full.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Thanks, I guess.
it fits the "realistic" bullshit we are now choking on.

I like Gabbard campaigning
for Bernie, but I would not particularly want her on the ticket. I think there are other candidates out there who would be better suited as Vice President.
I will say this about her quote about a military mindset. In my years of employment, I had one big boss and one immediate supervisor who both came out of the military, one generation apart. As an employee, I really liked working for both of them because of their "military mindset." By this I mean the old school military man always had a concern for the troops under his command, first and foremost. Therefore, he would be reluctant to put them into harm's way unnecessarily. Neither one of the former military men I worked under ever asked me to do something that they themselves would not do. And I knew they would back me all the way. So this is what I believe she is saying about the military mindset regarding Bernie.

Hi gulfgal98
Truth is I don't know much about her to have an opinion about her as a good VP choice, but had read a comment or two about her disagreeing with the O Admin about various and sundry.
Good to see that she is out campaigning as part of #NotMeUs
Thanks for the comment.

HRC comment from Town Hall
I am pretty sure it was the last Town Hall in which HRC made the comment about the US still having thousands of troops in japan, Germany and other places. If I remember correctly, the Philippines wanted the US out, got them out and now just got them back--makes one wonder what kind of deal or threat or corporate decision brought the last about. HRC seemed proud we are still there after 50+ years. Maybe someone could write something about this because it points out HRC's dedication to military presence in areas that IMO we do not belong (e.g., Latin America).

Thanks...but...
I am currently working on a few projects with a focus on the stinking media. = ) I am very slow at getting things finished which is why I recommend someone else take this up because time is becoming of the essence.

Great, yes, gah, the Media has given Trump wings

The media has long been on my radar screen
Yes, they are indeed giving Trump the presidency--if we, the people cannot get Sanders in under their noses.
Guess who made it possible for the big media mergers? His name is not Hillary, but as she touted everything else WJC did, it is rather ironic that the media that they helped create will help her lose the election.

obviously this is for the convention
and not now. Bernie can't say who he'd want as VP because most of the party people who might support him and be happy to run with him are currently scared of the Clintons and their friends. So let's say, for example, that Bernie thought Sherrod Brown would be a good candidate for VP. Brown would likely have to say no and then the whole point would backfire.
As for Gabbard, from what I know of her I don't think she'd be the person we'd want. Would she help the ticket? Would she be able to be President if anything happened to Bernie? Would she be seen as a Democratic Sarah Palin? That is, a token?
Yes, lots of water to cross before a choice will be seriously
considered though one commenter when I posted this later at GOS thought Bernie should make the choice now.
Apparently she has gotten press coverage on the right for disagreeing with Obama and Kerry about ME policy.
Thought the tweet, coming from Van, was 'interesting....'

I agree Shah
Gabbard is a good advocate on the campaign trail , but not who I would want for the Vice Pres. Sherrod Brown is the first person who came to my mind too.

She's the same as Sanders.
More false narratives, lies and deceptions. What they leave out is more important than what they say.

Too Soon To Worry About Veep
We need to get Bernie enough delegates to win the nomination before we worry about who his #2 will be! There will be plenty of time for that after the nomination regardless of which candidate wins.

All rank speculation at this point. But it's what we do,
we political junkies.

I think that Gabbard should
stick to advising and helping Bernie with military policy/matters. She'd probably do a great job in that capacity.
But, apparently, she introduced Bill 54, which authorizes the confiscation of homeless folks'property, when she was a State Rep in Hawaii. This law authorizes the City to make sweeps of homeless encampments, which more or less (according to some advocates) criminalize homelessness.
So, I'm not sure that I'd trust her judgment on social or economic policy.
I'm posting the blurb from The Hawaii Independent over at Joe's "Evening Blues," as my contribution for the evening.
