US stealth bombers in Guam appear to be readying for a tactical nuclear strike on North Korea

The US has been quietly amassing firepower in the Pacific during a lull in tensions with North Korea, but recent developments on an under-the-radar nuclear weapon suggest preparation for a potential tactical nuclear strike.

The US recently sent B-2 stealth bombers to Guam, where they joined B-1 and B-52s, the other bombers in the US's fleet.

While the B-2 and B-52 are known as the air leg of the US's nuclear triad, as they carry nuclear-capable air-launched cruise missiles, a smaller nuclear weapon that has undergone some upgrades may lend itself to a strike on North Korea.

*

Recent reports have suggested Trump is considering a "bloody nose" strike on North Korea, or a move designed to embarrass Kim by responding to a missile launch or nuclear test with the limited use of force.

But experts and politicians have characterized the idea of a nuclear strike as destabilizing and frankly crazy. Rep. John Garamendi, a California Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, questioned the wisdom of it in an interview with Business Insider.

http://www.businessinsider.com/us-stealth-bombers-guam-tactical-nuclear-...

There was no good choice either way. The Clinton Creature had her heart set on messing with RUSSIA! through Iran snd Syria. And President Bone Spur, a coward too afraid to fight when he was called upon to do so, is just dying to flex his penis by using a nuclear weapon on North Korea. Ignorant psycho SOB that he is, he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about those poor civilians who will be the ones to die. And the ignorant f*ck obviously thinks Kim Jong-Un will just sit there and just let it happen. I’m sure he has Mad Dog Mattis word on that one.

And the Dims stand by silently.

There is no such thing as a tactical (or limited) Nuclear strike. This is something poisonous that goes into the atmosphere. Have they not considered that there will be fallout likely on our friends and allies in Japan? Just collateral damage, nothing to see here, move along now...

I just can't see it happening. Too much risk and you really would have to be nuts to do that. There's no legal or constitutional basis so it would have to be done without consulting congress or the U.N. If Trump did do this, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on and would be toast and probably brought up on war crime charges. That's if it didn't trigger a larger war with Russia and China and/or retaliation from North Korea. That's the only reason to do something like this, to trigger a major war with China and Russia and I don't think they're that crazy, nor do I think they want that. This looks like Cold war bullshit that we went thru for 45 years last century.

publications?

Really, really, a little bit of constraint putting up headlines like the author Locke did in his article and the author Amanda here takes over and repeats, might be something to consider.

You just don't start the morning with such headlines.

US stealth bombers in Guam appear to be readying for a tactical nuclear strike on North Korea/

Even if it says "appears" to be readying and even if it says "tactical nuclear strike", I think it's pretty reckless "journalism" to put up such a headline. It's scaring people to lose their minds and what would that help? It also takes over the false claim that a nuclear strike can be "tactical", which is simply extremely mean bullshit.

As for the business insider's article, see this:

Correction: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated the US had sent bombers to North Korea. The bombers have been sent to Guam.

You know, if a publication makes such blatant errors, you should fire the author and send him into vacation time. Period.

Of course I am ambiguous of what to think about this article. But I would say, I like to give a bloody nose to anyone who writes headlines like that one and causes lengthy twitter threads about it. Because ...as the first quote searching quotes on fear that pops up is

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown”
― H.P. Lovecraft, Supernatural Horror in Literature

It's very dangerous to lose the capacity to fear something. We fear for a reason and I don't know what is worse, to lose the capacity to use your fears to try to protect you from something bad, or to use your fears to send yourself and others into dangerous paranoia and hysteria.

Oh, and now another "update" in the Locke article at the very end.

Update: This article has been updated to reflect that the modified B-61 is not yet deployed.

ok, kiddos, you can go back to bed and sleep and have nicer dreams than nightmares. WTF.

Business Insider - Left center biasLEFT-CENTER BIAS

These media sources have a slight to moderate liberal bias. They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes. These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Left-Center sources.

Factual Reporting: HIGH

Notes: Business Insider is a German owned American news website that has a left of center bias in reporting. Well sourced. Has been critcized for clickbait style. (5/15/2016

The title of this article IS clickbait. But I used it because that’s what you’re SUPPOSED to do. I cannot change an article’s title. You can’t either. No one is allowed to do that. You use what the author wrote. (That’s also the style used by most internet ‘sources’ trying to survive on the internet.) But NOTHING in the title is any less alarming than what’s in the article. And the fact that Trump’s military boys have had this in mind for a while makes it a real threat and a real possibility.

Mattis: Use of tactical nuclear weapons discussed with South Korea
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2017/09/18/mattis-use-o...

If you think this scenario is out of the question, you need to think again. It’s not just Trump.

Will Trump start a nuclear war with North Korea?

*

In August, Trump told the North Koreans what to expect if they made any more threats against the United States: “They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.” That warning didn’t deter Kim Jong-un from conducting a nuclear detonation and additional missile tests, part of his quest for the capacity to execute a nuclear strike on the American mainland.

A growing number of important Washington figures think that prospect is so terrifying that it warrants a pre-emptive attack. National security adviser H.R. McMaster says the only option North Korea has is to give up its nukes — and “time is running out.” Dennis Blair, director of national intelligence under President Barack Obama, has recommended massive “air and missile strikes” on North Korea if it tests a missile in the Pacific Ocean.

The other day, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told The Atlantic that “there’s a three in 10 chance we use the military option” — a figure he raises to “70 percent” if there’s another test. Based on their conversations, he says Trump “has 100 percent made up his mind that he’s not gonna let Kim Jong-un” deploy “a missile and a nuclear warhead that can hit America effectively.”

The prospect of war with North Korea appears to be far greater than most Americans realize. The administration has done very little to make the case for a preemptive attack or to prepare the public for the ghastly consequences that would probably follow.

My advice to you is to prove this article is WRONG and I’ll gladly delete it. Point out the parts where the article is false. Give a source . Quit the finger wagging and provide something relevant.

@Amanda Matthews (edited for clarity)
I just had a problem with the headline of Locke's article and I found it somewhat unnecessary to repeat the wording of his headline in your own headline. That's all. Because as I said in my comment it creates fears that are not helpful. That is not the same as saying I have a problem with what you or Locke had written. And also sorry, that I answer to your comment so late. I read and comment here at my time (in the morning hours, after waking up) and late night hours, which is East Cost time early evening. Often I fall asleep over reading. Next morning I start over reading and somehow that's then not anymore the time in which most folks here comment.

I would never try to prove anything wrong in Locke's or your article. I can't. I don't want to and I am sorry that you misunderstand my words. I haven't read through your whole comment yet and not through everything in Locke's article. I appreciate the links you provide and the excerpted paragraphs, the same way as I appreciate Joe Shikspack's in his Evening Blues. It's too much for me and may be it's ok with you, if I say it's too much for me. It try to be honest. I doubt I am the only one, who doesn't read everything and isn't in the "know".

So, I hope that clarifies it. I try to read the links when I am ready to do so. That may be tomorrow, in one months or never. It is not a matter of disrespect or criticism of the content you had written about.

Peace.

PS I read a lot. Lately German online, print and TV media. Then I read most of what is linked to in the EBs and I read the other articles here. That is plenty. I have sometimes difficulties to remember or recognize through one occasional article in one online site, if that is sensationalized and bent ideologically reporting. The more I read the less my brain is able to remember. Usually I go by the detail information that is given in an article. That's the reason I said I was critical of the headline, but not about the information given in Locke's article.

And in no way do I think that the issues covered are "out of the question". Let's not assume in our own minds too fast about what other people think in their's. Most often these are wrong assumptions.I learned that the hard way and certainly have hurt people's feelings voicing assumptions about others that were wrong.

Another Peace!.

what you posted.

If there is EVER to be a peace movement than people will NEED to be informed about the seriousness of the situation that we’re in. Otherwise there will never be one. And we need to start organizing one real soon because all the happy happy and pink pussy hats on the planet is NOT going to save us from the warmongers running both the Democratic and Republican parties.

Maybe you shouldn’t be on the internet if you’re that fragile. It’s obviously not good gor you if it causes you to be this traumatized at the site of a headline. I’m not being snarky here. If it takes you days to finish reading a post and if doing so causes you to have memory loss, then you have some severe problems that can only be remedied by stayng away from the cause of those problems. Go to happy sites like the one with all the cat pictures. Somewhere that won't make you want to punch people “in the nose” because a headline is too blunt for you to handle. That’s not healthy.

@Ellen North
... just apparently not clearly enough.

It's very dangerous to lose the capacity to fear something. We fear for a reason and I don't know what is worse, to lose the capacity to use your fears to try to protect you from something bad, or to use your fears to send yourself and others into dangerous paranoia and hysteria.

I allowed myself to think out loud about what is worse. Couldn't help it.

Fear has been the reason for establishing the MAD policies and to use it to keep the population in the belief that it is a safe strategy and will work. People didn't believe during the cold war of the fifites that anyone would not fear a nuclear bomb exchange over Germany and therefore it was accepted and used to keep everyone "under control".

So, to arouse fears had its role to play, in the past decades of the cold war.

Nowadays, to arouse fears is another thing altogether, because some super-duper smart guy says one really doesn't need to fear the nuclear bomb that much, because it's still a winnable (does that mean survivable) military "solution".

If people start to believe that a nuclear bomb dropping anywhere is not killing off the most of the world in a couple of strikes and therefore believe it will NOT be exercised, ie if they start believing it's a possibility that it could happen, then it will create panicky reactions. And that doesn't help to - as you say - "focus on coordinating some pacific method" to fight against the forces, who are responsible for the whole mess of the MIC and its political serfs.

In the end I fear ourselves, because we don't know what we are doing and don't know what we are supposed to do to get out of our own mess.

Peace.

I see in this article, true or not true, is that it could provoke North Korea to target Guam, causing us to to respond.

It's clear the part of our government that blindly supports the nuclear weapons industry, a private set of companies, will do anything, no matter how stupid, counter-intuitive, or counter-productive for peace and for the people of the world, just to generate the longevity and profitability of the industry. It's like a robotic machine with only an on button that goes higher, dumber, stupider, and more dangerous because there's no off. We're going to have to pull the plug.

As for the “are you an insider”, what do you think? I am a realist living in a country that is droning people all over the Middle East and Africa. I am not going to run away in a panic when there is an article about the very REAL possibility of the deranged idiot in the White House and his out-of-control old military whacks who are stilll looking for a war they can finally ‘win’ are very possibly going to nuke NK. @Amanda Matthews
First: I don't run away. I read or try to read and finish reading a lot of articles. So, I would say, you are wrong in your assumption of me running away in panic. We are very similar in wanting to know what is going on.

I am not going to run away in a panic when there is an article about the very REAL possibility of the deranged idiot in the White House and his out-of-control old military whacks who are stilll looking for a war they can finally ‘win’ are very possibly going to nuke NK. Like he constantly threatens to do.

I don't know where you are located, but where I am located, this has been discussed on TV and in print papers and everyone, who is willing to listen and capable of understanding, is aware of that "change in official language" from the White House, Senate and Congress. It's not as if nobody realizes that.
Second:

We have been killing innocent people for almost 15 years straight.

I am almost seventy years old. Since I am 13 years old I am fully aware and have read a lot of books about the fact that Germans were killing innocent people for more than six years in the millions.

Why do you think and why do you assume that me saying the headline of Locke's article with two corrections and updates in it, was a bit let's say unfortunate and "voreilig", meaning it could lead its readers to jump to conclusions, that they were themselves not able to proof as being correct. So, it can lead to panicky conclusions, which I happen to consider NOT helpful.

I just wonder what it would have helped me as a young student to be bombarded with articles telling me that B-52 bombers (as an example) are brought to Ramstein or whereever into West German US AFB bases and could probably drop their nuclear bombs on East Berlin? Just living a couple of miles away? When it comes to nukes, I consider careful wording essential to not cause panic in populations. That's how I grew up. I neither ran away, nor didn't I read. I also thought that I worded my slight criticism of the headline carefully, ie not harshly. May be I should have had my morning coffee before jumping in and say something. Next time, I promise, I will not say a thing.

A third time. Peace, Amanda.
