Can we just assume that the US gov's job is now all-military in places that never asked for that kind of love? Love of people, not organizations and corporations? Maybe we would better off in a no-gov situation.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

@riverlover aside from a late arriving military hospital ship from Norfolk, military response to PR just wasn't. Not much help.

@riverlover @riverlover

to restore power to PR has been awarded to a for-profit power company. It started with two employees and now has over 200, so there’s a job-creation subtext vital to all neo-liberal BS. Poor Puerto Rico!

Edited to replace “new” with “neo”. Argh, and auto correct tried to foil my edit!

@QMS
exactly as it is. Concise, terse, and telling. Like the proverbial good story or novel, it has a beginning, a middle and an end:

How to begin, one wonders. Indeed, that is the biggie.

Imagine a different world. And there is the answer, but what kind of different world?

People power Ah, but of course. fini

@Big Al That is a great idea! A good focus for a growing movement. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Rest In Peace brother.

Victor Gonzalez Gonzalez was shot by two officers after he allegedly advanced on them with a hammer disregarding demands to drop the weapon, according to Petaluma police investigating the incident.

Four Cloverdale police officers and one supervisor responded to a 1:46 a.m. call from a resident on the 100 block of Garden Circle Way of a man in his neighbor’s backyard, Petaluma police said.

Three officers entered a side gate and allegedly saw Gonzalez holding a hammer, police said.

Petaluma police claim the officers were “fearing for their safety” when they fired at least six rounds at Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was given medical assistance before being transported the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died, police said.

I wonder if they drug tested the cops that shot him, because severe over reaction is not normal. Is it? One guy and a hammer against three trained professionals in body armor? But "at least six shots" to stop him from advancing? It's like Trump dropping a MOAB on Afghanistan, just because he can.

Now preparing for the victim to be smeared by the press, a typical part of every "investigation" up to now.

because they can use it against Trump.

The instant he disappears, so will their anti-war stance.

but I like the simplicity of your message. Indeed how do we begin? I tried to find Big Al's protests at https://www.antiwar.com/ but it wasn't there.

Rev. Barber started the moral monday protests that have spread somewhat in the SE.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_Mondays

Moral Mondays are protests in North Carolina, United States. Led by religious progressives, the protests began in response to several actions by the government of North Carolina which was elected into office in 2013 and are characterized by civil disobedience—specifically entering the state legislature building to be peacefully arrested. The movement protests many wide-ranging issues under the blanket claim of unfair treatment, discrimination, and adverse effects of government legislation on the citizens of North Carolina. The protests in North Carolina launched a grassroots social justice movement that, in 2014, spread to Georgia and South Carolina, and then to other U.S. states such as Illinois and New Mexico.

In January 2014, the Moral Mondays movement spread to Georgia with the formation of the group Moral Monday Georgia. Leaders of the group announced plans to protest Governor Nathan Deal's decision to reject federal funds for Medicaid expansion.[1] The second rally held at the Georgia state Capitol building, again focusing on Medicaid expansion, resulted in 10 arrests for civil disobedience.[64] January 2014 also saw the formation of the "Truthful Tuesday" movement in South Carolina.[65]

The Moral Mondays movement also spread to Florida, Alabama, Missouri, and Indiana. Rev. Barber has also gone on to do training[66] across the country in how other organizers can learn lessons from North Carolina's Moral Monday movement, including advising in the civil protests surrounding a police shooting death in Ferguson, Mo.

In 2016, Governor McCrory lost his bid for re-election to the Democratic candidate, state attorney general Roy Cooper. His defeat was viewed as at least partially a victory for Moral Mondays, which "galvanized opposition and drew news media attention with numerous acts of civil disobedience."[67] However, the Republican-dominated legislature retaliated with a law severely limiting the powers of the governor, which Gov. McCrory signed into law before leaving office.[68]

No matter the approach it will be difficult to cast off the corporate capitalist chains. Perhaps we should begin with teach-ins? The people have been so misinformed that they will fight against the change that will help them.

Hope you all have a good day...clear and cool here in this corner of the world.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

QMS's picture

@Lookout sounds better than meatless Monday anyway. Worldbeyondwar.org is trying to organise an international demonstration for peace on Armistice / Remembrance Day, Nov. 11th. It is very telling how US highjacks the end of war date by focusing on veterans, not peace.

per Wikipedia

In the U.S., the function of Veterans Day is subtly different from that of other 11 November observances. Instead of specifically honoring war dead, Veterans Day honors all American veterans living and dead. The official national remembrance of those killed in action is Memorial Day, originally called 'Decoration Day', from the practice of decorating the graves of war dead in the years immediately following the American Civil War; Decoration/Memorial Day already existed at the time of the armistice.[citation needed]
