Why the Hell Did They Call Me?

So today I got a call from a company looking for a Geographical Info Systems Technician because they thought I'd be a good fit for the position. Oh, but wait, they want a Bachelor's Degree. And experience. And someone who can relocate.

This is yet another god damned fraud. There was likely no fuckin' job anyway.

Why call someone to 'offer' a damn job when they want more than the person has?

Fuck this shit.

See ya around,

For those of us in IT, there's a bitter irony here.

Chances are, your resume was belched up by a database fishing program, which found a certain number of matches to the template the employer supplied to it and therefore put your record in the queue.

The winnowing out of virtually all real applicants anybody who doesn't fit all the demands is left to flesh-and-blood humans, despite the fact that a few more hours of coding would have enabled the fisher program to do that job too.

Not fraud, amice. Stupidity. Cherished stupidity.

And yet these "employment" places remain in business, which I don't understand.

Fuck this shit.

AMEN, brother!!

@thanatokephaloides ...if you could call scanning and restoring photos, slides and digitizing old vhs tapes a business.

My mother-in-law seems to think there's a big market for it here because this is, as she says, 'God's Waiting Room'. Problem is, I don't have the confidence or the cut throat attitude for business.

Most of the time I just want something to do and to be left the hell alone.

There's a difference between offering an honest service to the public, i.e., being in business for yourself, and predatory capitalism.

Only the latter really requires the Trumped-up phony confidence or the cut-throat attitude. In fact, these can impede the very kind of thing you're working on, as they will alienate your customers from you (BAD idea, as I'm sure you know!). But your approach, which is to treat your customers well, will pay off in the end as happy customers make more customers.

So you can have "something to do and be left the hell alone" at the end of the day.

@The Aspie Corner

Actually, virtually anyone with 'extra' money and records such as videos taken on outdated tech could really use such a service, and I have hopes that you'll manage to make a decent living off this.

Best of luck, although I'll hope you don't need it, as that's actually a great idea.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

@Ellen North ....And perhaps a creative name wouldn't hurt either.

@The Aspie Corner a catchy title is good, but just putting it out there i.e.:

service offered, honest and reasonable

with a description is pretty much all you need. I haven't advertised for 20 years, and calls are still coming in.

@The Aspie Corner

Start a thread here to brainstorm, perhaps? If you haven't considered this already, as I expect you likely have.

Lots of good and creative brains here with experience in a wide variety of areas, as we know.
