Tucson beloved of Paul and Linda McCartney and home of the McCartney Ranch, where Linda chose to pass away after battling breast cancer. Team McCartney thought to buy Paul some time by saying she'd passed in Santa Barbara, California. When reporters searched in vain for a death certificate, California authorities thought McCartney had violated local law. So, he had to cope with that. (Sheesh. Everyone knew she had breast cancer. What were the ghouls digging for anyway? Assisted suicide? Shame on them.)

Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.

The tiki torches just seem so out of place. And now I have a sudden craving for pineapple.

@HenryAWallace any sort of intimidation that they intended was completely under-mined by the use of tiki torches. They look ridiculous, not scary.

Hope everybody's been doing well! I am up to my eyeballs this weekend, it's a housecleaning party at Chez Luna (relatives coming to visit...mustn't have them telling the mother-in-law they found DUST on my counters, LOL!)

But I have been lurking about, wanted to come by and share something I found yesterday, in case it hasn't posted here, and particularly in case Alligator Ed is around and hasn't seen it yet! Am still trying to pick my chin up off my desk, if it really means something, and I would assume it does, but...this is from Jared Beck (via George Webb? I can't tell for sure), who, with his wife Elizabeth, are the lead attorneys for the Plaintiffs in the DNC lawsuit:

@lunachickie I need Al Ed to put this info into some perspective. Or somebody. Anybody.

@gjohnsit That idea struck me in the middle of the night when I was looking up information on embroidery of all issues.

Like the Peking Opera, Hunan embroidery was a tool for political purposes during the Revolution. Before the Cultural Revolution, the themes of Hunan embroidery consisted of animals, flowers, fairy tales, and old legends.42 As soon as the Revolution began in 1966, the government criticized this art form because it was seen as part of the “Four Olds”, and the production of Hunan embroidery went down to nearly zero.43

celebrate something else, such as "Indigenous Peoples' Day". There isn't much to say for the man either. His motives weren't any good and he didn't discover zip shit or prove anything. And then there's that genocide thing too, not really cool.

The glorification of Christopher Columbus has traditionally been a pretty important rallying point in Italian-American community politics.

And what about the Catholic fraternal service organization Knights of Columbus?

Or the movement to have Columbus canonized (declared a saint in the Roman Catholic tradition)?

Meh. It is cold and cloudy, a nice break from the heat. This morning I felt cold for the first time, as the equinox approaches. Hope it clears up tomorrow though, looking forward to 80% eclipse action.

That face was painted by Dennis Ziemienski. It is the face of his brother-in-law, my previous landlord for thirteen stupid years (naivete kills). A very very bad memory. Horrible. I never read the book, heard it was horrible too. heh Nice artwork though. good job uncle denny

SHAFTA, that's what we called it in the 90s. Differences emerge in trade negotiations

Industry sources say the U.S. also pushed for the establishment of a wage system in the manufacturing industry, an issue that had not previously been publicly raised by the U.S. government.

What is that wage system about? I never heard of it. I never read the agreement either so I don't know much, except for the consequences. Those I know quite well.

Mexico and the U.S. clashed earlier this year over subsidies and dumping in the sugar industry.

There's more but I followed that sugar link and it wasn't long before the web included this Bloomberg gem: These Sugar Barons Built an $8 Billion Fortune with Washington's Help

Trump wasn’t Pepe Fanjul’s first choice for president. That was Florida Republican Marco Rubio, in whose rise to the U.S. Senate the younger brother was instrumental. But Pepe did serve on the host committee for a Trump campaign event in July 2016 that took place at the West Palm Beach residence of Wilbur Ross -- a social friend of the Fanjuls who, as Trump’s commerce secretary, is helping direct Nafta talks.

Well, it was an over the road coach, an ex-Greyhound bus that was refit in the late '00s and used as a corporate donation to Detroit Public Schools Athletics Department. We got it to use as a home while on the road teaching with the dogs. We're going to be remote

We've had her 6 days and almost got the floor out for a bus conversion to RV.

It's pretty INSANE! Such a huge deal and huge mechanical rig.

Pretty exciting stuff.

Here's the founding document:

I, Hugo Oconor, knight of the order of Calatrava, colonel of infantry in His Majesty’s armies and Commandant Inspector of the frontier posts of New Spain, Certify: that having conducted the exploration prescribed in Article Three of the New Royal Regulation of Presidios issued by His Majesty on the Tenth of September of 1772 for the moving of the Company of San Ignacio de Tubac in the Province of Sonora, I selected and marked out in the presence of Father Francisco Garces and Lieutenant Juan de Carmona a place known as San Augustin del Tucson as the new site of the Presidio. It is situated at a distance of eighteen leagues from Tubac, fulfills the requirements of water, pasture, and wood, and effectively closes the Apache Frontier. The designation of the new presidio becomes official with the signatures of myself, Father Francisco Garces, and Lieutenant Juan Carmona, at this Mission of San Xavier del Bac, on this Twentieth Day of August of the Year 1775.

The Santa Cruz river flowed back then with real water. The Presidio was moved north along the river from Tubac to protect an O'odham village from Apaches. The village was located on the west bank, across the river from the fort, at the foot of a hill called Chuk Shon. The Spanish rendered the Indian words as Tucsón.

I was about to say: Water, pasture and wood? Tucson??!!?? ROTFLMAO!!

But then, I re-read your Comment, and noticed the 1775 date. Things were a lot different then!

"document" (what does one call a transcripted trasnlation transmitted electronically?) I got a kick out of the "effectively closes the Apache frontier" bit. I seriously doubt that it did any such thing, though it may have prevented Apache depredations within a certain area.
