Someone doesn't want peace in Syria. Can you guess who?

The United States and Russia brokered a ceasefire in southern Syria a few days ago and it appears to be holding.
This is good news for almost everyone. Almost everyone.

Israel reportedly opposes the ceasefire agreement in part of Syria negotiated by Russia and the U.S.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting Sunday that Israel does not support the agreement, Haaretz reported.
Israel rejects the plan because it "perpetuates the Iranian presence," according to Haaretz.

Until the jihadists are run out of Syria, Iran's presence in Syria is not negotiable. Almost no one wants to see al-Qaeda take over Syria.
However, Israel sees things differently.

Amidror said that that while Israel obviously wants to see the killing in Syria end, “the price can't be having Iran and Hezbollah on our borders.”

Uh, Hezbollah was already at your border.
And the butchery is acceptable otherwise?
So what has changed is Israel's mission.

"Israel should take care for its strategic goal and this is to prevent the Iranians and Hezbollah from building launching pads in Syria," Yaakov Amidror, who counseled Netanyahu from 2011 to 2013, told reporters on a conference call hosted by The Israel Project. "If [the Iranians] begin to build infrastructure which might be used against Israel in Syria and will connect this land corridor into Iraq and begin to move materials from this area into Syria, that will make the war inevitable."

Iran has leased multiple bases in Syria.
It is probably for this reason that the "moderate" rebels at al-Tanf attacked the Syrian government today, instead of ISIS.

Of course, Iran wouldn't be so powerful in Syria and Iraq if it wasn't for the U.S. military and CIA interventions.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

That would have been in the early sixties. My father and many in our extended family thought that it was right that a few nations had given Jerusalem back to the jews. They after all had been almost exterminated so it was a right to correct a wrong.
Before my father died some years ago, he admitted that it was a mistake.
Many believe to this day that the current government and residents in Israel attained the land through a war that they won.
How history is ignored.

Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.

@Pricknick used to say basically the same thing. He thought that some type of Jewish state should have been created in the USA not the ME and that would have eliminated many of the problems their. Considering that Israel is aprox. 8000 sq. miles and many of the western states are over 100,000 sq. miles and the population of the U S being aprox. 135 million at that time it could have been an option.

"Obama promised transparency, but Assange is the one who brought it."

Bibi makes Trump look like a pussy cat when it comes to upsetting the world's apple cart. And of course the US is all so focused on its own navel that we don't see this. Israel has become a parody of itself. They are putting into the world the same kind of nastiness and hatred that they suffered in Europe for hundreds of years. They remind me of the Pilgrims... people who fled persecution only to become persecutors in their new land. We have a sick relationship with this country, and I don't see that changing. In fact, with Trump, Bibi is going to get even more support. We have let Israel thumb its nose at us for years, only to continue funding them with millions of our tax dollars. I wonder when Mr. Smart Dealmaker will recognize that he is being taken? I won't hold my breath.

"Without the right to offend, freedom of speech does not exist." Taslima Nasrin

"Our greatest ally". Our relationship with them has been consistently toxic. They spy on us with impunity and have their own political action committee to influence our elections (hey isn't that illegal ?). Whenever they are involved in ME affairs things get worse - never better.
