Alright I give up. Apologies to Betty.
I left the church back in the 80's when Medeiros then Law presided over the rape of children by Priests in Mass.
I tried to believe.
I could not because the "pastor" of my high school and other "brothers" preyed on the flesh of boys.
They have all died or are living in some Safe Place in "retirement".
I really tried to maintain my faith. I was pissed at Betty.
I no longer am.
I'm sorry Betty. You were right all along and I was deluding myself.

Guess what? The Pope is shocked.
Fuck him.
Fuck the Catholic Church.
I'm 61 and going to the grave with no ceremony or life here after bullshit.
So there.
I really don't care what anyones preference is. I do care that it may be exercised with the authority of G-D to satisfy ones sick desires. LGBTQ people are not sick. These people are sick.
Sorry I hassled you at TOP Betty. Welcome to C99%.
Can you forgive me?

I can't wait until God tells us who was right.
Was it the catholics, muslims, Jehovah witnesses, Baptists, Mormons, the snake handlers, or what? I think God should have a giant special on TV, a worldwide special, to announce the winner. I bet it would be the most viewed TV special in history. Vegas would have a field day.
Maybe Aston Kutcher could help out.

My bet's on the Buddhists.
As I once said to my still-practicing mother: "My church is the woods."
Pissed her right off. But it's true.

Barf bag anyone? Oops my monkey mind failed on "no judgments" again. Only the SV bubble can take "no judgments" to mean "do whatever the fuck you want, regardless." Politicians too! Steve Jobs, I hope he is learning something in whatever reincarnated form he came back as. Hopefully it is not another useless bag of water like the last time. What a dick.
I never tell people what to believe or what not to believe as a
matter of faith or lack thereof. However, whether or not there is a hereafter has nothing to do with the behavior of pedophile priests, or Pope Frankie and/or His pedophile advisor or Cardinal Law, (who, btw, got kicked upstairs to the Vatican for protecting the reputation of the Catholic Church by moving pedophile priests from one unsuspecting parish to the next). There either is a hereafter or there isn't, regardless of what any human does.
People like Law and Benedict XVI and (possibly) Francis kinda make me wish there will be a Judgment Day, though.

Only one Pope named Francis, ever.
There's only been one Pope named Francis, ever. That's why he's simply called "Pope Francis".

My apologies. I'll edit the prior post. (I hate leaving
dreck on a board.) I guess I leapt to the wrong conclusion after someone told me that his nickname was Frankie Two Sticks.
What he is called, though, is not dispositive. Many refer to recent Popes (John, Benedict and Francis) without using numerals.
I can't understand why
we are raised from the cradle to revere freedom all our lives, yet in death, to submit to the rule of one man ....
for eternity.
Seems like Hell to me.

Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Confirmed heathen here.
My maternal grandmother once told my mother she was raising us as heathens because we did not go to church, any church really. So my mom found a couple of them and they were OK. We were baptized Lutheran but weren't real serious, it was all about Sunday school for the most part. But I just have never believed in it really. So Nanny WAS right after all, and if she were here I would tell her all about it. I think even she'd agree with my reasons when I point out just what religion is used for in the world.
I had a Mormon friend as a kid and I went to some of their catechism like classes. They had a blue tiled baptismal pool that I instantly wanted to be dunked in. Went home and told my mother that. She didn't really freak out but it never happened either. Good thing!
Only a fool lets someone else tell him who his enemy is. Assata Shakur
Catholics have catechism, Mormons have testimonies
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Non-theist here.
I stay away from church. Last time I went I got two black eyes. As we stood I noticed the lady in front of me had her dress creased into the crack of her butt. So I did the christian thing and pulled it out. POW! That was one eye, but I learned my lesson. So the next time we stood, I poked it back...
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
I just prayed to God begging him to explain to me who Betty is
...and he answered "Don't worry, I see and hear everything".
OMG, where is a God when you need one? "Here" it whispers through the trees....

thx., I guess I was distracted, sorry/nt

I used to pray a lot, being raised Roman Catholic.
One year I prayed super hard for a bike but didn't get one, so when that didn't work I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness instead. The second plan worked way better than the first.
That's the beauty of being a Catholic, you get to be a right asshole 6 days out of the week and as long as you don't croak before Sunday confessional you're good to go.
Probably explains why so many of these corrupt asshats choose that version of B.S. over the other options.

God is whatever you make it, but if your model is based on empirical reality, the odds are that you will find no meed, purpose, role of place for one.

Dear EdMass, If you're
Dear EdMass, If you're referring to me - Betty Clermont - there's nothing to forgive. The fault is with the U.S. media's incessant dishonest reporting about this pope which in turn has caused the same media to report all-things-Catholic through rose-colored glasses.
