Well that was hilarious
This morning at the market I was overheard saying that France was much better working within the EU and not voting LePen. Now admittedly I still speak French with a noticeable Québécois accent and vocabulary I never have tried to hide/change it.
I was suddenly rounded upon and told that when LePen won I would be sent home. Then my partner who is a Martiniquaise "innocently" joined in and asked about herself and got a real mouthful [I wont repeat it, but it was thoroughly vile]. Now my partner happens to be well known and respected local medical professional in the town. The resulting near fracas was hilarious. Let's just say that is one LePen supporter that got an earful, I did notice some others trying to become invisible.
On a more serious note if we can be so bad mouthed in our own town then imagine what it could be like elsewhere and how frightening it could be without the local support. When nationalism and xenophobia join hands and become somehow socially acceptable behind the wrapping of oneself in the flag then it leads to the easy expression of hatred. Those expressing the hatred are often genuinely surprised when it is not treated as acceptable/normal.
I am tired and angry how people are more content it destroying rather than building a society for their own personal gain and to think once again their candidate will probably make the second round in the Presidential debate. Have no doubt that Marine LePen is not even more odious than her father, it's all pretence.
Just a quick note on how it is going.
