The Homeless are Cold, Freezing.

Much of the country is being hit by extremely cold weather. This is a plea to remember the homeless. There are many. Oregon has less shelter capacity than most places, which means there are thousands of people stuck outside. Currently it is frozen and frigid outside. "Warming stations" open at night to get more people inside, but with limited capacity.

This is a plea to remember these homeless shelters at this time. They need donations of both money and warm clothing, and food. If you are near one, and can safely get there, they probably also need volunteers. At least some of them have Facebook pages or web sites so you can check what their current needs are.

This is a link to a small local one I know of. If you can provide links to others, please do so in the comments.
https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=the%20father%27s%20heart%20street... (This one also has a web site, but up-to-minute information seems to all be on their Facebook page.)

Remind your family and friends, please, and do what you can to help. People will die outside in these low temperatures.

Thank you for reading and whatever you can do to help.

I can't imagine trying to be outside in this snow today.

Children didn't get home until 9:30 last night from school. Accidents everywhere, and almost everything is closed today it seems.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.

The school districts really blew it yesterday. They should have dismissed 2 hours earlier. I hope they won't make such a mistake again.

The criminalization of homelessness is one of the shames of the United States. Denver cops taking away blankets; other cities pushing people out of their tents in the middle of snowstorms. Can't sit down for too long, can't find a place to pee.

Here in Tucson they have limited the square footage of possessions a homeless person can have with them. Because nothing says "Christian nation" like depriving deeply impoverished, perhaps mentally ill people of their meager store of stuff. /sigh/

There is no justice in America, but it is the fight for justice that sustains you.

I wish I could write in a way that would touch people, touch their hearts and consciences, the ones that have them. I would write a letter to the editor of every paper in the country. I would ask readers if this is really okay with them. And if it is not, to put a stop to it.

During the great Depression, there were Hoovervilles, tent cities of homeless people. I cannot wrap my mind around the idea that this country has so little safety net left that we are back to the days before FDR. I'm horrified, sad, and ashamed to be an American.
