Standing Rock Update, November 22
Here is a press release from the Standing Rock Medic and Healer Council, issued November 21, which includes update on Sophia Wilansky's condition.

Call-out to veterans to deploy --nonviolently -- to Standing Rock on December 4 in support of the water protectors.

Meanwhile, the court cases continue. Last week, there was a good judge who threw out a bunch of felonies. Read the report from the National Lawyers Guild.
This video (7:52) has a much closer perspective than many others of the war crimes committed against unarmed people on Sunday, November 20. What is amazing to me is the man who keeps yelling at the troops on the other side of the razor wire: "Don't shoot! Don't shoot that gun! Do not shoot." He, along with the other water protectors, is so brave.

Respectfully, Veterans, especially of Iraq and Afghanistan...

First off, just from the footage I've seen, my daily intake of Marijuana increased exponentially. (1 to 2 bowls every to days to 3 bowls a day.) It's like being back in the worst parts of 2007, only this time being on the other side of the guns. Many Veterans will not respond peacefully to threats by Mercenaries. We do not like them or trust them.
Second, Many Veterans, especially left leaning ones who would support this, are on Terror watch lists. That's an INSTANT excuse for an arrest, and not the kind that gets you a chance to take it to the judge.
Yes, it's a war, and the good guys have every right to fight back. But if Vets get involved, they will fight. 100% of the blood shed will be on the hands of the people who attacked, but it won't be reported that way. And yes, this is the way that wars get started.

I know of other vets who use cannabis for their PTSD, and I had a similar reaction to what you have expressed when I first saw this call-out for December 4. I am very concerned about this planned action, but I wanted people here to be aware of what's going on.
Once again, I am grateful for your input and viewpoint, dmw. Please take care of yourself and don't watch the footage if it's going to do you harm. I'm not putting "trigger warning" on any of it because it's all so f**ing triggering.

Was just expressing how I deal with it, rather than demanding a warning.
This is not something that will go away if I avert my gaze. I think of mental discomfort like a mild pain. An indication that there's something wrong.

I was based in North Dakoa
I just went through my "EWO" bag...I saved it for some reason. Air Force parka, good down to -55, insulated "bunny boots", humongous mittens, multiple layers of long underwear, wool socks, mittens, gloves, hats, more socks... I just bought a gas mask to replace the one the AF took back, and a sleeping bag suitable for the temps (man, I wish they had let me keep mine), and lots of earplugs.
I completely understand why you are not going. I'll be thinking about you...I know that part of you would like to go. My grandmother says I should go. My parka says I knew I would go, 24 years ago.

can't help myself there, that motherly warning. Wish I could be there but my feet alone just won't take cold or long term standing anymore. A little leftover from Basic Training, thank you, but also of age and running a lot for a few years.
I called the Situation Room number on the list, the others were all busy and I actually did get a live human. I told him why and he started to forward me to comments which I said "are full, right?" and he said yes. I doubt he listened much further but at least I helped jam up the phones a little. Time to make another donation to legal defense fund too.

I think we can dispense with the term "less lethal" in reporting police weaponry. The concussion grenade that blew Sophia Wilansky's arm to shreds could have easily killed her if it blew up in her face instead.
I wonder if the Obama Pres Library will have a separate room to celebrate his fascist police atrocities from this shameful siege on Native Americans -- on their own land.

Knitting needles have apparently been used for abortion/accidental uterus perforation when abortions have been made illegal/difficult of access.
Knitting needles are also apparently good for passing time while waiting for the next of the predator-parasite class to arrive at the guillotine. But in that case, people might want to keep them handy, together with their pitchforks and torches.
