Let's start raising holy hell with Trump on Twitter

Let's get on Twitter and other social media and start holding Trump to what he campaigned on. There are many here who are at least partly responsible for Trump's win and while I'm willing to give him a chance, the fact that he demoted Chris Chistie from head of his Transition Team but still kept him on his transition team means he isn't exactly draining the swamp. Lets hold Trump to his positions on Wall Street , campaign finance and corruption. Let's start with Chris Christie. Let your voice be heard ( unless you think it's OK for a Pres who ran on draining the swamp having a criminal like Christie advising him) and let people know that Trump is not even close to draining the swamp if he hangs out with guys like Christie.

voted for Trump, maybe under five. I don't think that swung any purple state.

However, the diarist insisted we write in Sanders, rather than vote for Jill.

The reality is that, as a practical matter, for a while any vote that is not for a Democrat will be useful to a Republican. But, haven't we been stuck in that long enough?

People would feel free to vote their conscience. But then, that's exactly why TPTB won't like it; third parties would be more likely to win.

But I strongly feel that people should vote for the candidate they like best, not try to second guess the strategy and popularity of all involved. If that happened, again third parties would be more likely to win. Many voted for Hill to stop Trump or Trump to stop Hill as "the only two candidates who realistically could," rather than voting for their real choice. This is self-fulfilling prophecy. "She can't win therefore I'm not voting for her." Well sure, as long as you don't vote for her, she can't win.

Also, I don't agree with the math. Take 3 people, 2 of whom refuse to vote for Hill. You can either have Jill-Hill-Trump 1-1-1, a tie; or 0-1-2, Trump wins. So a vote for Jill was not the same as a vote for Trump. Likewise a vote for Johnson was not the same as a vote for Hill (in fact, I'm sure she wishes it was!).

Also, the logic presumes that the Dem is owed your vote. Suppose Jill should have been elected. Then a vote for anyone else is taking a vote away from Jill and making it more likely that the wrong person will win. So a vote for Clinton is a vote for Trump and a vote for Trump is a vote for Clinton. Everyone should be voting for Jill.

Also, a vote for a third party is no more helping Trump than is staying home. But it signals we are involved in the process and don't like either mainstream candidate, whilst sitting home is interpreted as apathy. Polls now are being reported showing people thought she was inevitable so their votes weren't needed, so they didn't bother.

Anyway, aside from all that, Clinton knew the realities and planned her strategy accordingly. She moved to the right, figuring there were more Repub votes for her to pick up there than Dem votes lost on the left. She and the Dems always do more to please their corporate donors than their voter base, figuring they'll get the votes anyway, if not because we have nowhere else to go then because big money will buy big persuasive ads. Not surprising to me, but apparently to them, that if you provide the voter lukewarm support, the voter will give you lukewarm support. Think how different it might have been if we already had $15 minimum wages and public option more affordable healthcare and no TPP and DAPL stopped. Thanks, Obama! There's also the entire rejection of Bernie whilst knowing that he polled better against Trump, and her CTR trolls turning everybody off "we don't need you". Also, somehow she won the popular vote but lost the electoral college, suggesting she should have spent more time in some states and less in others. So much of the blame for her loss rests with her and her team. I think the polls were rigged, she wanted to attract people into backing the winner. If so, that backfired. My sister was one of those voting in PA. She voted Jill Stein because polls showed "she's got this," Clinton was up in all polls by at least 4% and rising the day before the election. She would have voted Clinton if she'd known Clinton was at risk.

But really, the only people to blame for Trump are the people who voted for Trump. He is their monster and they need to own him. The rest of us need to do what we can to stop him and his minions. The Dems need to grow a spine in support of the voters.

Can you tell I've been at TOP articulating these positions multiple times? Biggrin

You recently insisted that we write in Sanders at the polls, which was supposed to throw the election to the House (which would have picked Trump over Hillary anyway).

viewing this presidential election. It's like Christmas presents. With a Clinton victory it would be like getting a present from Aunt Mildred. You know before you open it it'd going to be a stale loaf of fruit cake. With Trump's victory it's like getting a present from crazy Uncle Buck. You don't know if it's going to be a box full of money or a box full of shit. I'm hoping for the money so I'll hold my judgement of him before I start harassing him. I know he's done and said a lot of despicable things that he should be held accountable for but as far as the presidency goes, IMO, the verdict is still out...

Let's start with single payer. Paul Ryan is pushing to privatize Medicare. It would become a voucher program. Let's push him for Medicare for all. How about a cabinet appt for Bernie??

I think it is great idea. .

PS - I voted for Jill Stein, and I think I am partly responsible for Trump, along with all the non-voters, Hillary Voters, and other third party candidates.

How about you do a little research and really dig into the policy proposals for healthcare, rather than just blasting off trivial about Medicare for all? What would a voucher system entail? What are the pros and cons? And specifically why would privatization be bad for Medicare? What are the drawbacks to the current ACA system and how can it be improved? If you are just flooding the airwaves with superficial lingo, you will not have credibility.

Please do not give progressives a bad name with the new administration. Find legitimate and non-polarizing ways to work with our new President and his cabinet. We have a [wonderful] opportunity to have a non-establishment President [who is sadly not Bernie], but let's all work together in a positive way to bring about lasting change against the oligarchy! The demonizing of Trump was part of the Clinton campaign propaganda...can we put it aside now that Hillary is history, and give Trump a chance to show his human side here?

into the 1970s or 1980s.

Molasses, waist deep, covered the street and swirled and bubbled about the wreckage ... Here and there struggled a form‍—‌whether it was animal or human being was impossible to tell. Only an upheaval, a thrashing about in the sticky mass, showed where any life was ... Horses died like so many flies on sticky fly-paper. The more they struggled, the deeper in the mess they were ensnared. Human beings‍—‌men and women‍—‌suffered likewise.[2]:98

Damage to the Boston Elevated Railway due to the flood

The Boston Globe reported that people "were picked up by a rush of air and hurled many feet." Others had debris hurled at them from the rush of sweet-smelling air. A truck was picked up and hurled into Boston Harbor. Approximately 150 were injured; 21 people and several horses were killed—some were crushed and drowned by the molasses. The wounded included people, horses, and dogs; coughing fits became one of the most common ailments after the initial blast. In a 1983 article for Smithsonian, Edwards Park wrote of one child's experience:

Anthony di Stasio, walking homeward with his sisters from the Michelangelo School, was picked up by the wave and carried, tumbling on its crest, almost as though he were surfing. Then he grounded and the molasses rolled him like a pebble as the wave diminished. He heard his mother call his name and couldn't answer, his throat was so clogged with the smothering goo. He passed out, then opened his eyes to find three of his four sisters staring at him.

Are the protesters even concerned about who Trump is appointing to his transition team? His cabinet? Where is the outrage? Where is the concern that these choices will likely lead to a continuation of the same policies supported by the banksters and neocon globalists. I am concerned that these protests are being fanned to shift the focus from the economy, the social safety net, environment and war.

"We're going to hold Obama's feet to the fire," coming from people who were guaranteed to vote for Obama no matter what he did. With Trump it's the opposite -- we're not a constituency, so we don't count. The key is to organize against all of the politicians, so we can't be bullied around by any of them.

for or against politicians or parties, Americans are de facto both divided and divisive. Also, division by politics is exactly division political parties work for and love--red team, blue team, whatever team.

If we organize around issues, as some Hollywood celebrities have around clean water/oceans/rivers/streams, we have a better shot at greater numbers. (Water is just one example, of course.)

Also anything that cuts against the duopoly/monopoly paradigm is a good thing. I don't want to reinforce it.

I also don't want to poke the Trump bear for the past. As far as his past bigotry, Hillary is just as bad, just more circumspect/opaque, hypocritical and cynical. I'll wait until he does or says something as President Elect or President that is wrong.

Since Trump holds absolutely no power at this time, I'll help in the effort to put pressure on him around the end of January if you'll join in an effort right now to hold the Clinton political machine responsible for orchestrating this disaster of an election in the hope that the leadership within the Democratic Party can be persuaded to adopt Bernie Sanders' long-term strategy for fixing what's broke in the Democratic Party.

Deal?

You all got a tremendous gift:

You have a Democratic Party to rebuild. From the ground up.

Several magazines and newspapers, including the NYT, are featuring pieces describing that process. The NYT rightly points out that the Millennials should be brought in and thoroughly involved in the design, since there is no Democratic Party without them. They are the generation of consequence in America and they are not going to wait around, either. There are many decisions that must be made soon.

Defeating the Elites and Party Machine, knocking it flat on its face, returned The Democratic Party to you. It's time for boldness. The Old Democrats went all in with super delegates and all. Hired professional hippy punchers. They maintained a jaw-dropping level of denial, totally free of any information about the lives of Democratic Voters.

This is a once in a lifetime victory. Use it hard and kindly remove those bums who ran it into the ground.

but so be it. Reality is healthy. Assuming "we" are going to rebuild the party is naive. The same people who run it now will pretend to change because they "heard" us, but it will be same old, same old, just more fake, more opaque and more deceptive.

As an example, I heard some of the less known talking heads at MSBNC saying Vilsack would be perfect for DNC head or President, given all the populism and emphasis on rural areas. (The concept was so ludicrous, it doesn't much matter which office it was, so I forgot.)

Few are closer to the Clintons than Vilsack. Most people thought he would be Hillary's Vice Presidential pick for that reason. She may have ruled him out because he did have a negative incident during the Obama administration. In any case, Vilsack is not the face of the new populism or even close, but the propaganda machine is already operating--and we're sitting here posting with zero money donated to us and probably zero contacts within the party or within the propaganda machine that is mass media. Meanwhile, the DCCC and DSCC probably already have names they intend to run in two, four and six years, while continuing to protect incumbents.

All that said, if you have any specific steps in mind by which we can take over the Democratic Party from people like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, John Kerry, etc. please share.

I am always the first to point out that these systems cannot be reformed from the inside. That is just a fact, but it is always a downer.

In addition, the primitive US constitution does not offer an option for the people to challenge the system — no NOTA or "no confidence" voting, no people's referendum. The people cannot access their most important human right, the Right to Self Determination. This means they have lost the control over the government that they were supposed to maintain at all times.

But there is something extraordinary in the weakness of the Parties, right now. The nightly protests in US cities are featured in news media around the world. The world asks: "Is there a legitimate government in the US?" The Establishment and Our DC Overlords in State and Defense are keeping their heads down. Any confrontation would expose them; they would be forced to accede to the demands of their employers, the American people. The people should have a demand manifesto in hand as soon as possible. This moment is a very rare time when collective social action has teeth that bite.

Of course, taking over the Democratic Party and restoring it to a labor party, is the ideal solution for the two-thirds of Americans who have NO representation at the Federal level that relates to their needs and concerns.

Now, if this is too daunting, the people can use a strong external method to gain control.

The people should immediately form and join the People's Labor Coalition and empower it with a manifesto of demands and declarations. Structure it like a Party but do not run candidates for office. Instead, use the People's collective power, as voters, to block, spoil, and distort any race for any office, where there is no candidate who conforms to the people's needs, and who adheres to the People's Labor Coalition platform.

Never forget, government exists to directly benefit the citizens at all times, and make their lives extraordinary. Corporations need to conform to the people, not the other way around. Begin using the force of the voting coalition in the mid terms, where candidates are unacceptable or corrupted by special interests. Ruin local elections, as well, by creating outcome chaos. Make the demands heard and force the Parties to come to the people if they want an election that can be certified and recognized internationally.

There is nothing on the agenda more important than putting the people's needs first and enhancing their lives.

If no decent candidate is offered who adheres to the social and moral principles of the Left (aka the People), the people can then transform the coalition into the People's Labor Party and run proper candidates. By this time, the people will be tremendously empowered by their own success. They will finally remember who they are. Their candidates will win because the people own all the votes in America.

That's one suggestion.

"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies." - Groucho

"drain the swamp" rhetoric. Trump ran as a Republican. He has absolutely no political experience. He is going to have to rely on somebody who has had the experience. Although we see no difference in the R's or D's if he stared taking people from the perceived "D" side that would immediately piss off the "R's". And if wants to make America great again that is the party he is going to have to work with. His choices on the transition team don't surprise me at all. It's who he appoints as his cabinet members that will speak volumes just as it did with Obama in the first term. When that happens and those people are from the established, monied elite and Wall Street and Big Banks you bet your ass I will be trolling Trump and his Trumpsters about his drain the swamp promises. Same as I have done with Obama, Clinton and the rest of the neo-liberals.

On another note I wonder what his plan is for the post office. Republicans have wanted to privatize that for a while now as well. Time will tell I guess. Have to agree with ThoughfulVoter above, that we need to coalesce around issues and stop with the identity politics.
