find out who's behind this crap.

#MOVEMENTFORTHE99%#

The unthinkable has happened - Donald Trump has won. Further, the Republicans have seized control of both chambers of congress. With this power they are planning to unleash a storm of attacks against the most vulnerable in our society. This cannot stand. We need to stand as one and revive the solidarity in the old labor slogan, “an injury to one, is an injury all.” We need to build the fightback to Trump and the Right.

Within hours of Trump being elected, Movement for the 99%, with Socialist Alternative and Socialist Students, put out the call for mass protests across the country to unite against sexism and racism and to begin building the movement against Trump and the the billionaire class. In less than 24 hours nearly 40,000 people answered our call! Please contribute $25 to grow our movement.

The numbers of people - mostly young people - who attended in each city is electrifying: New York City had 10,000 people; Philadelphia 6,000; Boston 10,000; Seattle 6,000; and Oakland 5,000. Our protests were a top story on newscasts across the country and internationally - from CNN to The Guardian.

This only the beginning.

Plans are underway for huge nationwide protests around Trump’s inauguration on January 20th and 21st. We need to build a grassroots movement against threats to escalate mass deportations of immigrants and a clampdown on muslim communities, among other attacks. Movement for the 99% will be at the forefront of building these demonstrations and organizing broad community coalitions to stand united against bigotry and hate.

But to challenge Trump’s agenda, we need your help. We need the millions of people who stood for Bernie’s political revolution to join in building an independent grassroots movement that can stand against fierce attacks from Trump and the Right. We need to raise $10,000 in the next week to begin building for the Inauguration protests being planned across the country. Please contribute $25, $50, or $100 today!

Now I don't know how I got on their mailing list but if you look at where I bolded the print at the bottom of the page, it's being sent in behalf of Sanders. He needs to own this if they are part of his organization. And he needs to fuck off if they're using information given to the Sanders campaign when I was supporting him. Or maybe this is another DNC scam. Or did David Brock come up from the sewer and team up with the Clinton's to do this? Regardless, I am pissed.

They obviously think they're going to pull a Chimpy McSmirkster here and change the results of the election. (Gore DID win Florida after all that bullshit and lying.) I hate Trump but I hate the Clinton's far more.

Oh yeah. They want money. I wouldn't give these morons a nickle if I was as rich as Hellery Clinton.

EDIT: When I 'unsubscribed' to their emails they thanked me for my feedback. I think they might be changing their minds about that one.

Plus they are using info from the Sanders campaign. I'm on a 'list' of Sanders supporters and that's how they got my email address the shitheels.

Paging Henry Wallace!

ETA: You can find the story at Movement for the 99%. The blah-blah sounds OK:

There’s another way. Bernie’s campaign proved that it is possible to build a viable political alternative completely independent of corporate cash and the Democratic Party machinery. Please donate $25, $50, or $100 today! Every success of Bernie’s presidential campaign was achieved against the resistance of the Democratic Party establishment.

The powerful protests at the DNC and the walkout of hundreds of Bernie delegates - which Movement4Bernie played an important role in - showed the anger at the two party system. Alienation with the entire political establishment is at record highs. Millions are filled with fresh confidence that another world is possible and that the time is ripe for building a new mass party of the 99%. The rapid rise in support for Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, especially since the walkout at the DNC, gives a glimpse of the huge openings for the left.

That’s why we changed our name from “Movement4Bernie” to “Movement for the 99%.” (www.Movement99.org) In dozens of cities across the country, we organized a series of “Beyond Bernie” community forums to announce this transition and our endorsement of Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s presidential campaign. And we will continue our efforts to build support for independent social movements that can provide the foundation for a new party of the 99%.

...

Seattle’s socialist City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, and her organization Socialist Alternative, launched Movement4Bernie last December. We campaigned for Bernie on an independent basis, organizing nationwide March4Bernie events that drew thousands into the streets, community

Lots of appeals for cash, not too much specificity what it's going for. I don't like that. And while the words are fine, if you look at the pictures you'll get a strongly Millennial-SJW vibe out of the thing. All the signage talks about racism and sexism, so I'm not sure that memo has been gotten.

If this is the organization driving all these protests, especially in Portland where rioting has already started, it needs lots more transparency.

but the pictures of their insanity (stupidity) say otherwise. They're out there in numbers. They get way more people at their protests than the Clinton creature got to go to her campaign rallies. WTF sense does that make?

They almost seem to be a leftist version of the Tea Party. Except where most of the TPers were middle aged and up, this bunch of screwballs seem to be pretty young. But so were the Brooks Brothers rioters.

This was all supposed to be over and done with. I never guessed that the Clintonista's would follow KKKarl Rove's playbook. They probably figure it worked for Chimpy so it'll work for them. I wonder, do they know there are legalities involved here? That they can't just say 'overturn the election' and its done?

wondering if David Brock and Bill Clinton are skulkiing around in the background.

I'm pretty mad about these fools having my email address and name. Not that I think they're going to come around and hassle me or anything but I'm tired of these leeches asking me for money. And it's the proverbial snowball's chance in Hell that I'd give this bunch any.

I went to Sanders meet-ups before and after he flipped and signed up to work for Brand New Congress so it's not like I didn't do my part to spread my information around, but it was NEVER meant to be used for nonsense like this.

Let us know if you get an email from these characters please. I'd be really interested to see how wide-spread their reach is,

Now let me ask you, why do you think they're using that identifier at the bottom of the email? This is what I mean:

Movement4Bernie · 151 S Horton St · Seattle, WA 98134 · USA

There can't be anyway that old Jeff Weaver or any of that crowd have their fingers in this pie wouldn't you think? Is it just bait to reel in the suckers? Where is the money really going and why?

I sincerely don't believe that Sanders would EVER condone anything like this, but why are they using his name? He couldn't be president no matter how many protests there are. That part id terribly dishonest and deceptive. How many people are sending money just because they think it has something to do with Sanders?

I thought we'd finally be beyond the election and talking about the future by now. Shows you how much I know.

The founder supports nationalizing Microsoft and Boeing

If that gives you a sense of her flair for practical solutions.

[some snark ahead:]
*I* support nationalizing Microsoft and Boeing. Especially Microsoft. Your point being?

Smile

Seriously: Like most Pirate Party folk, I support nationalization and/or other regulation on the uber-rich and the uber-powerful, and freedom for the Serfs. And either we own our computers, or Microsoft does. These two concepts cannot occupy the same space and time. And, of course, I opt for the former (one reason I run and promote Linux/BSD where and whenever I can.)

And the driving force behind "Movement for the 99%" (formerly "Movement4Bernie"), one Kshama Sawant, has always been up to this kind of hair-on-fire tactics. Thinking through the undesirable side effects of actions and avoidance of Oliver Velez Syndrome are not Ms. Sawant's strong suits, although she has shown considerably more willingness to work to avoid the latter than its namesake ever has (admittedly, not difficult).

As far as the protests go, let me quote an old (pre-Confucian) Chinese proverb:

"Light a fire in seven places; you will have flames and smoke in eight."

The electoral victory of Donald Trump, largely a product of the Democratic Party fielding the seriously flawed Hillary Clinton as its 2016 candidate, has left a significant part of the American populace seriously pissed. Yes, the Clintonistas may have started the protests (light a fire in seven places), but it is readily apparent that our kind of folks have joined them, and in some cases are pissed off enough to resort to violence (flames and smoke in eight).

And I can easily see this small barbecue turn into the Waldo Canyon Fire before all is said and done -- and probably before the year is out.

I just got off the phone from a female friend who was distraught. Her line that really got my ire up was, "I was all set to wake up and dance in my room because we had our first female President."

I told her that I was horrified. I pointed out that the US had laid about 1.5 million civilian body bags in the Mideast. Let's just call half of those Obama & Clinton's. So she was basically rooting for another 750k civilian casualties to our wars of acquisition. At that point we'd be at 2.25 million. I asked her at what point she wanted to start thinking of it in holocaust terms and was she really willing to be happy about something like that?

One of the interesting things I've found is that my Democratic friends are much more open after the election to learning the truth about the Democratic party. She learned quite a few things in the last few hours.

I got that email. But, unlike Amanda, I know exactly why I got it: I allowed the Socialist Alternative Party to have my email address.

If you open the link, you'll find the email Amanda and I got -- on steroids and meth. If my fellow c99ers will read the linked website, you'll get an idea of the ideologies driving much of what is going on.

It's not the Hillary supporters, at least not any more. The Trump victory (which we warned them would happen if the Dems ran Hillary) has pierced the reservoir of ultraflamer leftists (i.e., the potentially violent cases) like a freshly sharpened large-diameter auger bit striking molten lava. The Hillary supporters and Lady Gaga lit fires in seven places, but runaway flames and smoke are now to be had in eightY.

That's probably because Hillary and the not-so-democratic "Democrats" soaked the national ground with hot gasoline continuously since March 15 or before.

Who's to say that this group you speak of isn't a damned "front" operation, or a legitimate entity initially, that's been getting wined and dined and co-opted lately by our boys Podesta and Mook?

First, Socialist Alternative's been around for a while (1986). It's a neo-Marxist group of the Trotskyist branch of the family. Wikipedia on SA

As for the claims that SA was "a legitimate entity initially, that's been getting wined and dined and co-opted lately by our boys Podesta and Mook", you of all people should know that these are affirmative (and extraordinary) claims. They are to be assumed false unless and until direct evidence of decent quality can be supplied to support them (the familiar Rule of Burden of Proof). The affirmative claims (and their makers) owe the evidence, and they are the only ones owing it. Moreover, these are also rather extraordinary claims, as SA has been openly and stridently opposed to all pro-capitalist politics (i.e., the Duopoly) for its entire lifetime. I remember Labor Militant, and it was no supporter of the ilk of Hillary Clinton! Hence, the now familiar principle laid down by Dr. Carl Sagan also comes into play here: extraordinary claims like these require extraordinary direct evidence, and there's less than none to be had. If you know otherwise, kindly do please bring it forth; you should know me well enough by now to know I'd listen and consider it with great care.

No, luna, what we're dealing with here is that the Hillary Clinton campaign, with all their dirty tricks, have soaked the ground in poison. And that poison happens to be high-octane gasoline. All it took was the Van de Graaff machine called the Trump victory to spark it off. No special conspiracies required. Our country is filled with seriously pissed off working-class people who are as volatile as hell right now. Some elected Donald Trump, others are now rioting. Yes indeed, the Clintons are largely to blame for these facts. But the Clinton acts which created these facts were almost all in place by the end of the calendar year 2000, with upgrades from Hillary's Senate and Secretary of Endless War State terms. Any skulduggery from the year 2016 is a mere condiment to that toxic dish.

And as a direct result, we now have serious social chaos afoot. Whether thinking Americans want it or not.

Thanks, Billary. This one is all on you.

Now then; just because a group is "legitimate" or was legitimate, absolutely doesn't mean that nobody:

wined and dined and co-opted lately by our boys (fill in any slimy Dem name here)?

The burden of evidence also demonstrates time and time again that our government--those high up in it, your "Deep State", as it's referred to here regularly--indulges in agents provocateurs regularly. Nothing more. "Nothing personal, just business", as it were. And yet again, I apologize. Obviously, I mishandled that.

However, for the exact reasons I specified, your question begs this converse one: How do we know that there is some sort of nefarious Clintonesque skulduggery going on here?

If you have some information in that direction, I'd love to see it.

Again, I mean you no offense; but simpler explanations exist which account for all relevant facts at hand: to wit: The American working-class people, those who live from one paycheck to the next, without holding any wealth, have clearly and obviously had enough. Some elected Trump; others have started rioting in the streets. The angst load is more than they can bear after 48 straight years of conservative Wall Street rule. Hence, we get a loudmouth uber-rich demagogue elected President, and violent riots in the streets nationwide.

My evidence:
No American younger than 50 has ever experienced an actual working peace-time economy. And their parents, the generation of Americans born between 1960 and 1975, remember such from their childhoods, but have themselves had to put off (or completely forgo) starting families because working for a paycheck no longer pays enough beyond the job's inherent expenses (i.e., student loans) to support the earner and his job, much less a spouse or a family. Setting this explosive population off is neither a difficult nor time-consuming task; on the contrary, I respectfully submit to you that it's a freakin' miracle we've avoided this social chaos as long as we have.

And, luna, if you crave still more evidence of my simplistic Occam-style explanation, look at this very thread! For Cat's sake, you and I are wholesale crossing horns on this! That's never happened before! And we're not the only ones, either! Attempting to process these riots and protests has had the same effect hereabouts as a human Dungeons and Dragons (or NetHack) player dropping into an Orc King's throne room while wearing two blessed rings of conflict!

But you and I should not and must not do that to one another, you're absolutely right on that count. And for that, I apologize.

Smile

Not fishy, just flakey.

These things are typical of Socialist Alternative. They've always been just like this. If you doubt me, go look at the site I linked.

Makes me a little sad about Kshama. Maybe I'm just old, but I can't see how the timing makes any sense. If it's not intended to coup the election and hand it to HRC, then the whole thing is sure subject to that misinterpretation.

Notice that the focus is on social issues. Where is the outrage about Wall Street influence? If people are trying to shut down neoliberalism, where is the stirring of passions to take on Trump possibly appointing Wall Street insiders to his cabinet? Where is the directed outrage towards Trump's environmental views and promised policies? What about foreign policy? There are so many issues that we need to address for our future. Something is very wrong here. It smells bad. Keep the people focused, enraged and fearful about the social issues that fracture and distract while they continue to impoverish and enslave more and more Americans, and while killing more and more citizens around the world and destroying the world itself for profit and power.
I'm feeling hopeless. Help. What do we do?

You are quite observant to sniff out what the protester's "issues" are. It's almost a distilled version of the Clinton campaign. No mention of the corporatist overlords, billionaire enablers, climate killers, pipeline builders, frackers, sub-livable minimum-wage payers -- it's all "Look at me! I'm such a victim!"

It looks nearly scripted.

think it's crap. When Bernie jumped ship to the dark side, Sawant and others in the organization endorsed Stein. Seems to me a lot of people here did the same. They are only a small part of the truly progressive organizations that need to coalesce around progressive agenda's and candidates for 2018 and beyond.

There's not some sort of nefarious plot going on here. Years of people being victimized by our political process has led to people seeing conspiracies where there likely aren't any.

It's just an emotional response, much like when rural, white folks who voted for Obama in '08, votes for Trump in '16. They're going to be disappointed with Trump, but he was able to convince them that he had their interests in mind, while Hillary was trying to scare people to vote for her.

Trump presidency: Protests turn violent in Portland, Oregon

FROM USA TODAY ARTICLE
Anti-Trump protests, some violent, erupt for 3rd night nationwide
3:03 p.m. EST November 11, 2016
About 4,000 protesters assembled downtown late Thursday chanting “we reject the president-elect!” the Associated Press reported. Some among the crowd vandalized 19 cars at a dealership in Northeast Portland, according to a sales manager, Oregonlive.com reports. Protesters then headed west, over the Broadway Bridge and into the Pearl District, where the windows of several businesses were smashed.

The protest was mostly peaceful until demonstrators met with an anarchist group, after which demonstrators vandalized buildings, kicked cars and knocked out power, KGW-TV reported.

On Twitter, Portland police said many protesters were "trying to get anarchist groups to stop destroying property" and that "anarchists" were refusing to do so. Demonstrators repeatedly chanted "peaceful protest."

MAN BEATEN ON WEST SIDE WHILE ONLOOKERS YELL, 'DON'T VOTE FOR TRUMP'
Updated 4 mins ago
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police are searching for the people seen brutally beating a driver on the West Side. Video of the attack sparked outrage across the country.

Police said it started after a traffic-related argument Wednesday afternoon in the city's North Lawndale neighborhood.
The video shows 49-year-old David Wilcox under attack by a group of teenagers who pulled him out of his car in the 1100-block of South Kedzie Avenue in the city's North Lawndale neighborhood.

Yeah, they're just fooling. No worries at all. Next time I don't like something I guess I'll go break out car windows and attack people.

I have a classmate who voted for Jill Stein and is participating in these protests for whatever reason. She says that it's worth it since there's sixty-some days until he's inaugurated.

I don't see the point, but it looks like fun: you get to exercise your First Amendment rights; march around while shouting slogans; meeting new people; and just feeling energized and shit.

Meanwhile, Trump is pretty much unfazed by these demonstrations.

The crazies with their foreheads painted "not my president" don't bother me. They can march around the big cities all they want. Rain will come. Snow and wind will come and they will go home. The progressive cause has taken a mighty hit but it will re-assert itself.

My point is that contrary to your flippant attitude, it is more than a harmless little 'protest'.

Now I guess violent protests aren't a thing. Good to know. Most people, myself included, have been laboring under a totally different point of view. I thought that violent protests were illegal and destructive. Glad you straightened me out on that one. I guess that means next time a few of us get angry, we can got out and beat up people and burn up cars. Thank you for that information.

Why do I mention this? Because I've never been anywhere else where people do things like that. I don't think Socialist Alternative is crap; far from it. I do, however, disagree with some of their tactics, because I see them as driving away large swathes of allies because we don't belong to "politically correct" groupings. (In other words, Oliver Velez Syndrome.)

I think that if SA would migrate its stance more towards mainstream anti-capitalism and away from the territory of Injustice Collection, they would perform a serious service for our country and for the whole of humanity.

Act Blue, your name, email, etc., could have been sold.

I posted a blurb about this many months ago. Act Blue 'owns' the information that they collect, when they are used as a go-between for fundraising--for any candidate, BTW, not just Bernie.

So, it's theirs to sell. So, maybe SA bought a mailing list from them.

Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.

I have ActBlue on speed dial (a.k.a. "express donate" -- dangerous thing, that). Biggrin I've contributed to Sanders directly via his campaign website and through ActBlue. I've signed up with Brand New Congress, attended a meeting, donated. I didn't get the message. Would have noticed in my spam folder had it gone there -- Google Apps mail has an over-enthusiastic spam classifier and lots of legit email lands there, so I have to go fish it back out regularly. So I don't think that's the where the mailing list came from.

I voted for Kshama Sawant back when she was in my district, but didn't sign up with her campaign that I recall. I'm a small-s socialist, but haven't looked into any of the formal socialist or similar parties. But it seems folks are getting this message without having signed up with either Socialist Alternative or the Sawant campaign.

Curiouser and curiouser. But at least now we know who sent it.

up

I am on both the Sanders and Stein mailing lists. I was a Sanders delegate at the precinct level, and maxed out donations to the Sanders campaign. I've been on his mailing list for years, long before the campaign. If this was backed by Sanders, or even from an illicit copy of one of his mailing lists, I'd have gotten it, and I did not. Also, Sanders would never ever ever send something like this. Seriously, never. Sanders is known for working across the aisle. He knows one gets nothing by screaming at someone that they're evil.

Amanda, what was the sender's email address? Is there a reply-to header? (To see other email headers, look for an option in your email app or website to show the raw message, or show the headers.) Is there a link to a website? (Caution -- maybe don't click the link...) I'd like to do a little digging to see what organization this actually is (if it's not spam).

The link in this Comment is a straight and clean one to their website.

Would it be better to forward the whole thing to you? Can it be done through messaging on here? But maybe this is all you need.

Let me know if you want the whole thing. There is no 'reply to' header.

I'll be damned. Part of it doesn't show up even though I am looking at it right now. That part is bryan@movement99.org. It's surrounded on each end by the signs for greater and lesser, you know the arrows. Does that make something NOT show up even though you can see it plainly on the screen.

Seriously, this is pissing me off. This iis about my 8th edit to try to get this crap to show up.

Screw it, I don't know what's going on here. I know about 'special' keys and words and signs, but these should work when I try to print them as an arrow --->

...are used around HTML tags, and we can use some HTML in this editor. You've likely noticed the HTML tags that get added for bold, italic, blockquote, etc. I'm going to guess one can use HTML character escape sequences to put in angle brackets, but let's try it... A left angle bracket, which is also a "less than" sign, can be written in HTML as ampersand l t semi-colon (with no spaces): < And this is ampersand g t semi-colon: >

Angle brackets around text is probably getting interpreted as a tag, but there's no HTML tag called bryan@movement99.org, so maybe the editor is a little confused.

Below the text box, there's a link "More information about text formats" but it doesn't cover escape sequences.

This shows the three things that have to be escaped, and what to put in instead, more clearly than above:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7381974/which-characters-need-to-be-e...

Anyhow, let me post this and we'll see if the escape sequences show up.
