Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
~George Orwell~

Good day, I am just emerging from a few days of funk. How bad could it be? Idris Muhammad, what do you funkin' think?

I have been on a news black out, the analysts drive me crazy. I can tell you what the problem is! The dumbing down of the population and television pop culture has created a cult.

I look forward to the jingoistic, authoritarian and incongruent rhetoric of the right, because I sense a new age of activism. Environmental activism, Black Lives Matter, Voting Rights Activists, Women, disenfranchised Christians and the pissed upon shall emerge.

Getting elected is a beginning, not an end. I suspect the new administration thinks they are going to be able to enforce their will and have a subservient population, press and minority party. Good luck with that.

It was a crappy election, the difference was in style, not substance. The only difference is whether we are thrown any table scraps or whacked with the funkin' newspaper.

I anticipate the new administration over playing the authoritarian hand and alienating even larger swaths of the population.

Heh, not bad for an Islamic drummer?

Have a groovy weekend! The thread is open!

Note lack of exclamation point. I am not in mourning like the Clinton voters. A secret smile and I am calm, awaiting orders. And also looking at a massive job of leaf relocation. If I go that way. Year of my husband's death I did nothing. The lawn (area where there was once grass) survived. I am getting permanent plantings like Hosta and wildflowers in. Besides (just looked up the etymology of that word*) the oaks are still hanging on to their leaves so the leaf translocation has to be done in the spring anyway*.

* same definition, of something I call meh.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

I am doing nothing with leaves. Sweetie and I used to have an ongoing battle. She would put Oak leaves to the curb and I would use them for mulch. Technically, I live on a wooded lot and can go au natural. Some funk on the music player could stimulate you to herd leaves.

I am not mourning Clinton, but I really despise Trump. I have thought of Trump as a grifter for several decades.

I think I will go crawl in besides* Sweetie. It is good for the soul.

*Improved etymology

I remember as a young lad, Dad would spend the whole day raking the leaves into a huge pile. I'd run and dive right into the middle of the heap. Then Dad would snatch me and beat me and beat me some more until all the flames were out.
(H/T to Emu Phillips. Gotta love that guy.)
My trees deleaf at varying rates and the grass still grows, if somewhat slower. So my leaves get mulched when I MOW. ( 5 times it was changed to now so had to CAP it, sorry) Some of my trees are nude but a couple are still full. Another mowing in a couple weeks.

When by oneself those pull-starts became impossible. I cannot justify a mower with ignition start, and gave up the gas and kerosene cans. Battery-powered weed-whacker and a human-run weed whacker. So not much gets done, and my "lawn" is mostly weeds and sedge. And groundcovers like Vinca and Sweet Woodruff.

As I look at the developing cabinet, I have a bad feeling about where we're going. But he may not start a war with Russia. I think the $hill was headed that way. Maybe he will kill the TPP. He claims he won't cut social security.

The real danger is climate and the environment. We can't wait 4 more years. Time to stand with standing rock.

I think there will be a learning curve:

I hope you and Sweetie are hanging in there - sounds like you are hanging onto each other for dear life! That's what Raggedy Andy and I are doing!

I hope the protests we are seeing are a sign of times to come. The millennials have been awakened, like the hippies of my day. I will be in the streets with them - I think we're going to see four years of upheaval in America unless he can really bring us together. Only time will tell.

Have a beautiful week! Pleasantry

I look forward to four years of catharsis. I am hopeful that it will expand the conversation and engage people that had tuned out, like half the electorate. Now about how we pick candidates and the two party system ...

The care giving is wearing me out. I do not have the emotional energy to get too excited. The task at hand is progressively more difficult. The fatigue and disillusionment are becoming more difficult to over come. It is a good thing I am innately ornery and feisty. I just need to refuel.

Hang in there and revel in the small pleasures.

folks like Jerry Garcia despised and had no use for folks like him. The surviving politicos, the SDSers and such, are few and generally not involved in electoral politics (Tom Hayden was an exception, mostly harmless, and actually did some good here and there).

In general, iirc, the hippies of youre weren't much into street action, though opportunistically got involved here and here, and the radical activists, while sometimes manifesting various degrees of hippie culture and behavior, are more likely to be found hobbling along in some protest march than in a corporate boardroom or political office .

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

Growing up in Kansas during the 60s, I remember those who stood against 'Nam, and for civil/equal rights, and pro ecology. While most are merely stuck in mind and body crippling jobs, I do see the mayor, sheriff/police chief, county attorneys, and several business owners doing everything they can to cheat as much as they possibly can. And with few exceptions have turned hard core right wingers loudly preaching the exact opposite of what they embraced 50 years ago.

and I feverently hope that you are right. OTOH, I fear that the minority party will be just what it is, which isn't at all reassuring. I recall when GWB was elected being continually shocked that what should have been "the loyal opposition" turned out to be a motley crew of enablers and supporters instead. I do hope that they don't go there again, but there's a fear down here I can't forget

thread but posting it here also.

I'm in CT and voted Stein but now feel guilty that I didn't vote for $hillary.

Hear me out.

I have a son with a chronic illness. I prefer not to disclose it... Anyway, there's a subreddit about it which I read. Our son has a good job and health insurance from his gf (could have it from his employer but her ins. is better). But all these young kids with the same disease as he has fear for their lives, that they are going to be SOL soon. The medications for this illness can cause upward of $30k/ year just for one of the drugs (a biologic).

I feel like I let those kids down voting as I did. I told my brother that if I lived in a swing state I would have voted for her, and vomited later. but now I feel badly b/c of these kids w the same illness our son has.

Am i nuts?
Please talk me down. Feel like I let those kids down somehow even though CT went for $hills. Like I should've not been so thoughtless in my voting.

I thought she was an awful candidate and corrupt to the core.

Thanks in advance.
