A long article but well worth reading when

you have the time. It can wait till after tomorrow; nothing herein will change anyone's voting.

There was more going on than the article mentions, but this is the best place I have seen to begin to understand how the Democratic Party got where it is today.

Lots of stuff I had intuited, but this had references and back story. It's also the sort of thing you can share with anyone as it is very polite to all political factions.

it's an excellent read as well as a piece of history you don't learn in school as well.

+++++1 thumbs up.

EDIT: excellent snippet here.
I'll add beware those that tell you the enemy is fascist for that is what
they themselves are. Did I say that correctly?

New Deal fears of bigness and private concentrations of power were given further ideological ammunition later in the 1930s by fascists abroad. As Roosevelt put it to Congress when announcing a far-reaching assault on monopolies in 1938: “The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism.” In 1947, Patman even commissioned experts to publish a book titled Fascism in Action, noting that fascism as a political system was the combination of extreme nationalism and monopoly power, a “dictatorship of big business.”

Thanks for the link to the "long article", which is well worth reading for some of the history of why we're in such a political economic catastrophe. I'm near the same age, I guess, and remember Watergate in detail. I've known of Wright Patman for some time, as well as Barbara Jordan, George Miller, Pete Stark, Henfy Waxman, and others mentioned. I quit being a liberal in 1968, seeing the betrayal as it was happening. Finding myself surrounded by Fauxgressives, I no longer use the word "Progressive" to label my politics.

I will comment on one thing about the linked post and the long article it takes us to. Neither author, Jonathan Larson, nor Matt Stoller are identified in any way, so I wondered at first, "why should I read this? There's so much crap on the Internet in all subjects, why should I? As is my practice, more and more these days of fact-freedom, I Googled and Wikied to learn more about them. They have bios that give them credentials, and I don't mean lettered egotism such as "PhD" or whatever. I mean, what sort of life has this person lived that I should believe anything they say?

Glad I did research. I learned that Larson seriously pursues things in which I am interested, such as woodworking tool design and memorizing Handel's Messiah for performance. This in addition to being a serious student of political economy. His blog is called Elegant Technology (www.elegant-technology.com/JALbio.html). Interesting fellow who has enough credibility to urge me to read Stoller's long piece.
Matt Stoller is a Harvard grad (that means less to me than others might think, but it helps build some credibility; after all, guru Michael Hudson cut his teeth working for Chase). His blog is Real Economics (http://real-economics.blogspot.com/), which doesn't identify anybody, unfortunately. If I read other stuff on this blog I'll need to waste time researching unknown authors.

FYI: Be careful out there as you plow through the landfill seeking nuggets of wisdom.

It really gives insight into the history of the current batch of corrupt Dems. Thank you for sharing it.
