The protesters are standing up against corporate/state power in order to preserve clean water and a sustainable environment for future generations. Capitalism can't think past the next population and/or region to exploit.

If we had a president who cared about the planet and its people, he/she would nationalize the ND guard by executive order and send them back to their armory.

This is why we can't treat those who "serve" and "serve and protect" with kid's gloves, like they're immune to criticism because they're just Serfs like the rest of us.

A day or two ago, he called climate change "terrifying."
But an oil company losing money, that must be truly horrific.

to support the NoDPL protesters?

This isn't a kind of battle I could join for many reasons, but I am willing to send a few bucks to the right place to help keep the protesters and their supporters fed, sheltered, etc. Also "scholarship" travel funds to get those young and healthy enough from across the country to the protest.

about this travesty from either Trump or Clinton. I'm hoping Jill Stein will speak up soon. And loud.

Hey Bernie, are you still there?

To the point where North Dakota put out warrant for her for spray painting a the business end of a bulldozer!

for "vandalyzing" corporate equipment for spray-painting "I approve this message" on the blade of one of the bull-dozers being used to desecrate sacred Native American burial grounds, etc.

She's done more, so far, than any other pol - showed up, made her statement, got busted.

It's just that the MSM is ignoring this, even when the private security guards' dogs are set loose on the protesters and actually draw blood on some half dozen of them, as happened over the weekend.

Edited to add correction:

Dhyerwolf is correct. According to Stein's Twitter account, there are arrest warrants out for both her and Baraka wrt activities at the protest.

This should be big news... except it's not being reported as such. A Presidential candidate gets arrested, and nobody's talking about it? WTF.

North Dakota Tribe's Request to Stop Work on Pipeline Denied

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/key-ruling-dakota-access-pipeline-due...

some interesting wording from the pipeline people's case

"Investor appetite for the project could shift and financing may no longer be available," the company said. "Construction of the entire project would cease and the project itself would be jeopardized."

I guess that was good enough for the judge.

and note the wording here...

The ruling said that "this Court does not lightly countenance any depredation of lands that hold significance to the Standing Rock Sioux" and that, given the federal government's history with the tribe, "the Court scrutinizes the permitting process here with particular care. Having done so, the Court must nonetheless conclude that the Tribe has not demonstrated that an injunction is warranted here."

using "does not lightly..." the way Obama always does when he's making a horrific decision but wants to look like he cares and is on "our side".

from Feds Halt Work on Part of Oil Pipeline Despite Court Ruling.

On Thursday, North Dakota's archaeologist said that piece of private land was not previously surveyed by the state would be surveyed next week and that if artifacts are found, pipeline work still could cease.

And from Government Steps In After Judge Denies Tribe's Request to Stop Pipeline

The U.S. Departments of Justice, the Interior and the Army weighed in immediately after the ruling's release with an announcement that the Corps of Engineers will at least temporarily halt authorization for construction of the pipeline around Lake Oahe, while it reviews its previous decisions regarding this large reservoir. The government requested that the Texas-based Dakota Access pipeline company voluntarily pause construction within 20 miles of Lake Oahe.

...

"The federal court ruled against the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe today but, in a stunning move, three federal agencies have blocked the pipeline at Lake Oahe pending a thorough review and reconsideration of the process," the tribe said in a statement on its Facebook page

I would like to propose a pipeline through Arlington National Cemetery that cuts through the waterways surrounding Washington DC.
