Meanwhile, back on Planet Earth, have a look at the End of the World.
Literally and figuratively, “Yamal” is a native word for “end of the world”.
It is, and it is.
That’s our signpost up ahead, our next stop, folks. Submitted for your consideration, a picture of our immediate future.
If you wonder how TPTB are going to handle our descent into chaos, consider the current concerted effort to suppress any information about the fact that much of Siberia is on fire. Even NASA is suppressing this - albeit half-heartedly. But it doesn’t matter, the MSM won’t touch it, probably on orders. No sense in prematurely scaring the peons.
But the point is, none of the majority of what we’re talking about here (including all of my posts) are worth - by and large - a pot of piss.
Because of this.
Here's a close-up of one of the many many many Siberian blow-holes, that let untold-tons of methane out of the (not-any-longer-perma)frost (80 m across).

No-one who gets elected, or not elected, or runs in a sham-show of feel-good-liberalism will have any impact on this. This is a result of 200 years of hyperbolic growth of CO2 release. You know the process that is underway, it’s been predicted for two decades: Megatons per day of methane released into the atmosphere, with a greenhouse warming capacity of 20-80 times that of CO2, into a region already warming 2-4 times faster than the already quickly warming global average, speeding the release of yet more methane, soon to begin (by virtue of warming) release of vastly more clathrate deposits in the oceans, with the resulting… well, you know.
“Folks, on behalf of your flight-crew, let me acknowledge that it’s been a long, long trip, but we’re finally here and I’d like to be the first to WELCOME YOU TO HELL! But unfortunately, this is a tow-in gate, so sit tight for just a bit more, and we’ll off-you to your final destinations, sooner than you can say ‘Beelzebub’s your uncle!’”
But no end of the world should happen without a musical accompaniment.

This makes about as much sense as everything/anything else.

Wars, billions of refugees, extreme weather, diseases, etc.
If we do not radically change the way we live and soon, the world will become a combination of Mad Max, Waterworld and Elysium.
And we are the worst culprits per capita except for the Australians. http://www.footprintnetwork.org/ecological_footprint_nations/

I'm afraid the evidence says...
Whether we do or not, the die appears to be cast. Unfortunately.
The refugees have started (Syria), the extreme weather and diseases are here, and intensifying.
Can't speak for the movies… didn't see them.

The permafrost is burning?
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
It's melting first, releasing methane, and some is burning.

Can you imagine
What if one of those methane blowholes happened in a wildfire zone? How big would that explosion be? How much heat would be released by an 80 meter wide jet?

We did. His name
was President Jimmy Carter. Put solar panels on the White House, wore cardigans inside and on TV to encourage citizens to do their part by heating houses less in winter.
The only president to have lived in government-subsidized (HUD) housing, he went on to found Habitat for Humanity, building energy-efficient homes for low-incomes citizens to purchase with sweat-equity and very low-interest affordable mortgages.
He was elected in '76 - 40 years ago.
Only connect. - E.M. Forster
Actually...
He didn't start Habitat. Linda and Millard Fuller did.
Democrats, we tried to warn you. How is that guilt and shame working out?
Actually 40 years ago Carter cared
Solar panels on the WH roof, etc. Since then not so much. Reagan, of course, was the antichrist but his successors have been little better.
Sad thing is some folks look forward to the Apocalypse...
They think that it will be fun, and they will finally have the chance to be heroes and big shots.

And everybody thought
Mad Max was a movie.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Actually, Svente Arrhenius predicted these temp increases
in 1893 I think it was. Shouldn't be a big surprise except to the uninformed and the greedy.
Arrhenius thought it was a good thing
He thought a warmer climate would be good (for Sweden) and increase crop yields.

And now
we're beginning to throw massive quantities of CH4, methane, into the atmosphere.
He and many never seen it coming. And the greedy don't care.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Ted Cruz is part
of that religious group that believes they will become rich rulers in the end times. Unfortunately, most of right wing "christianity" believes some version of this. Being a climate crisis denier is part of their religion.
There is even more bad shit going on in Siberia. Old frozen anthrax melted and has been causing problems. There are also huge deposits of methane under the ocean just off the coast that scientists have been monitoring.

Methane is a stronger and more persistent greenhouse gas than CO2. We are already into a spiral - more methane, more warming, more methane,....
There's a good youtube channel - understanding climate change - It is a bit nerdy with college lectures and so on, but also has info for non scientists. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo-r5Q-5TWB43oLI8eZ6euA/videos
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
I believe that methane is a stronger but less persistant
greenhouse gas than CO2.
Methane is approx. 30X over CO2 as a greenhouse gas.
When the tundra thaws, methane is released. If the temperature of the tundra is below 2C, almost all of the methane goes into the atmosphere. Between 2C and 5C, methane "eating" bacteria intercept quite a lot of it. Above 5C so much methane is relased the bacteria can't utilize much of it.
In the ocean there are vast stores of frozen methane sequestered as, I think, methane hydrate. If this is unleashed through warming oceans, then it will be a methane bomb with temperatures soaring.
The largest expanse of muskeg, or tundra, is in northern Ontario over to the northern prairie provinces where they border Hudson Bay. Taking the train from Cochrane, Ont to Moose Factory, Ont, you go through 180 miles of unbroken muskeg. There's no telling how much methane and CO2 is dormant there waiting for a thaw.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
Methane's atmospheric half life is only seven years
See Phys.org.
CO2 is much harder to pin down:
The bottom line is that methane has a shorter residence time, but breaks down into CO2, and while CO2 gets removed slowly over time, the removal mechanisms have their own problems (e.g. Ocean acidification).
We can’t save the world by playing by the rules, because the rules have to be changed.
- Greta Thunberg
You hint at what I believe must be more plainly stated.
Even if we shut off every internal combustion engine today, there is sufficient climate change in place today that has its own MOMENTUM. No one knows how far that momentum will go but the fact it exists is not in dispute. The longer we avoid that day where we shut off all sources of excessive CO2, methane and other pollutants, the greater that momentum will accumulate.
It kinda feels like we really are doomed. Let it be shown in the record that an entire planet and all its life forms were obliterated for profit.
Where do the profiteers go?
The profiteers will have the last high ground; the last bottled
water; and the last cans of Spam.

I guess it is last one out, don't bother with the lights. The runaway has started. To us it's slow, but in geologic time, it's a blink.
