Reminder: Site downtime
Just a reminder that I'm not sure if our hosting provider will be taking the site down for server maintenance tonight or not. If so, it may happen anytime after 12:00 PM Eastern time.
JtC,
As part of our longstanding effort to keep our servers fast and reliable, the server hosting caucus99percent.com is scheduled for routine maintenance starting at 10pm MDT between Monday, July 25 and Friday, July 29. You can expect approximately 30-60 minutes of downtime while the server reboots.
Please be assured we're doing everything possible to make this a smooth transition.
Thanks,
Bluehost Support
The site went down a little after 10 PM MDT last night as per their schedule, and stayed down for almost two hours. According to the email we may have more downtime after 10 PM MDT from now until Friday.
Sorry for any inconvenience, it's out of my hands.

Thanks for the heads up JtC

Thanks for the update, JtC.
Interesting that their downtime for this site just happens to coincide with the prime time speeches ( and immediately after) during the week of the Dem Party convention.

I don't think so. MDT. Wouldn't that be midnight Eastern?
I could be time challenged, but that's what I get.

You may be right, ec.
I'm time-challenged about MT, because the only friend I talk with in that time zone lives in Arizona, which doesn't do the "day-light saving" thing, so I'm always confused about what time it is in Phoenix.
Still, let's say they take c99p offline at midnight EDT. If the keynote speeches don't start until ~ 11pm EDT and run long like Sanders' last night and Trump's last week, then c99p will be shutting down just as the speeches end and we might want to discuss them.
Oh, well, whatever. We'll live with it. What else can we do - set up our own server in JtC's basement?

Oh, I didn't realize the keynote speeches were running so long,
I've been checking in the next morning.
I hear you can get into trouble with that private basement server thing... or maybe not!

Thanks JtC, it's a fine site that you have built.

Can we get things like this pinned to the front page?

Hi MsGrin...
you have two drafts on your user profile page dated for the 24th, is it one of those by any chance?
Thanks - no it was another one
I nearly lost another different one when an update started & I lost what was on the screen, but I was able to hit back and it got me to a place where it still existed, and since it gave me an error message when I tried, I opened a new page and then cut an pasted it into a new essay.
The one I lost is a donor who was sent to a couple meeting with Obama as a prize. I've found another guy since. It's not that interesting other than to just watch the back and forths - it's just watching a train wreck with respect to Democracy.
It's hard not to get lost in the emails - so many small answers in there.

Have you considered having Pagliano set up a server for you? I hear he works cheap and is very quiet.

Can This Be Narrowed Down?
It's good to know that "10pm MDT between Monday, July 25 and Friday, July 29" is the window, but that leaves a question as to exactly WHEN this shutdown will happen. I understand why the server will take 30 minutes to reboot, but WHEN is this going to start? Enquiring Caucusers WANT TO KNOW!!!

That's all the info...
that I have. The email stated 30-60 minutes, last night it was down for almost 2 hours. I also don't know if it will be every night this week.
I will say this too, the server does seem to be performing much better since the maintenance work on it last night.
