What if they pick Sanders?
So I've been thinking a bit today on the shift to supporting Stein, and I had that thought: "What if they wake up to the reality of their dying party and nominate Sanders?" I know it's very unlikely to happen, but there still is a chance that they could do it. What becomes of Jill then?
Do we continue supporting her run for president? If we did, would that significantly damage Sanders chances of winning? Do we abandon her campaign? If we did abandon her campaign, we could still support other Green party members running for different levels of office, at least. Or, and I think this would be the best option, do we fight for a Sanders/Stein ticket? I know the VP position isn't that powerful a position, but it'd be nice to not only have someone other than a D, an R, or an I wearing the VP hat for a change, but also to have someone to the left of Sanders waiting in the barrel should misfortune befall him.
As I said, I know it's unlikely to happen (and if it did I'd fully expect to see Dems oppose him for the next 2-4 years), but it is a possibility that I feel is worth addressing.

roboting their way through the next week, and it'll be a giant, depressing snoozefest; or else Sanders is up to something.
My money's on the latter, more than the former, and has been for awhile--but yesterday, somebody posted that they'd heard The News talking about Monday's lineup (MSNBC?) and of course they didn't mention Bernie. Maybe the leadership isn't willing to really trust him, and is trying to find a way to limit his time or keep him off the stage altogether.
Or, you know, he'll conveniently have car trouble or something, and he just won't make it to the hall on time (nudge-wink)
I would like to see this
but as a realist I would question the status of my sanity if that outcome were to be announced in the MSM. This is so far outside the realm of plausible as to be fantastic.

To the diarist: If you want to vote for Jill Stein, if you meet the qualifications for a US voter, you have the right to vote for whomever you want.
The last I heard, Bernie was scheduled to speak during the convention, maybe on Monday night. Has that changed? Or was that never the plan? At some time during the convention, unless there is a motion passed to nominate by acclamation, each state will be called upon to announce their delegate count. Assuming all states require their delegates to vote as their state did, Bernie will get a little less than 1,900 votes. None of this has anything to do with how each person chooses to vote in November.

I think the writer is not asking for permission to vote for Jill Stein. I think the writer is wondering what we (collectively) can do to effect an acceptable outcome in November. What action or actions can we, or will we do as a collective rather than a mob of individuals?

That matters to me too. You guys have earned my vote as much as Bernie. My first choice is Bernie, second choice Dr. Stein, but if an obvious consensus begins to take shape among leftists, that too will factor into my decision.
Not sure if this answers what you're asking, but neither Bern
nor Hill has enough pledged delegates to win. It's going to take the supers to put them over the top. Should Hill's numbers fall even farther, should she get indicted meanwhile for example, then the supers could flip and the nomination could go to Bernie. He has enough to win if the supers go his way. Heh.

Best outcome ever
Would be delegates come to their senses and nominate Sanders. Then Sanders brings a Sanders \Stein ticket that wins in a landslide victory. Two terms later (2024) Stein continues the rehabilitation of our political system culminating in a new America for all people in 2032. By then, all the rich old creeps will be dead and the young Bernie supporters of today will be in complete control of our political process.
Both the Democratic and the Republican parties will be relegated to oblivion.
One can dream.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.

As I understand the essay
the question is: if by some miracle Bernie got the nomination (in some parallel universe), do people throw Jill under the bus?
My thought is if that very unlikely scenario played out -we could still vote Green in the red states to drive up the numbers for the party.
I think the goal this cycle should be to get Jill to 15% for both the debates and next cycle.

I'm not getting my hopes up or anything, but I'm behind him all the way until wherever he stops! I don't think he'd reject Stein, I always thought she'd make a great VP for him...
Sorry not going to happen
Because that would mean they have half a brain.
If they were half way smart then they would have selected Bernie. But they live in their little worlds and talk to each other while patting themselves on the back congratulating themselves that they selected her as the little people's savior.
I completely expect it to not happen
But I don't rule out possibilities simply because of unlikeliness. It was unlikely Trump would get the nomination for the Republican party, after all. And look where we are now. I don't expect reality to be able to crack the illusion that they've been enjoying this election cycle, but I can hope that the reality that Trump can (and likely will) beat Hillary come election day has done enough damage to their illusion that they can no longer ignore it, and have to at least consider the results of their decision.
Well, Bernie would win in a
Well, Bernie would win in a landslide, and people have now turned to the non-corporate Green Party after being deprived of Bernie as their choice.
Should the opportunity to vote for President Bernie arise, I would hope that people would do so, as would have originally happened.
Apart from anything else, we already know Bernie's record in various political offices and how canny - uncanny, really, lol - he's proven in negotiation with both Washington factions, succeeding in gaining what was thought impossible for various of the most vulnerable people even with a notoriously intractable Republican Congress which nonetheless tends to respect him, as virtually everyone knowing him does, while I don't believe that Jill Stein has had anything like Bernie's political experience.
It's also known that Bernie cannot be bribed, bullied or beaten down into acting against the public interest - a major point, and one terrifying the Greeds.
Bernie hasn't changed and never does - and he is still the most solid known quality suitable for the Presidency.
A split vote is one which can be defeated, though, letting an evil from either side win so that the whole world of life loses.
But love the idea of filling in public offices with Green wherever possible, making what was often corrupted into verdant and healthy ground where democracy can grow freely.

then I think some would stick with Jill and some with Bernie, but I would turn in whatever names that I've gathered for Jill by then and return to working for Bern.
Hopefully Bern would choose Jill as his running mate. That would be awesome, the Indies and the Greens taking over the Dem party! But if he did not, I still like his policies better than hers, marginally, right now. Hopefully this site and others would happily debate who's better, Bern or Jill, without rancor. Hopefully if Bern doesn't get the nom next week, Jill will invite him to be her VP - or even Pres on the Green ticket and she moves to VP. Their policies are so similar, I think it's going to be a tossup. But Bern did all the work of fighting the good fight for progressive values within a grueling Dem campaign. I think he deserves the White House. If he doesn't pick Jill as VP, he will probably offer her a Cabinet position. There are Departments of the Interior, Agriculture, Transportation, Energy, and the EPA. Even HHS (she is a medical doctor, after all). Now THAT is an interesting question!
A lot of people had a foot in both the Bernie and the Jill camps, even donating to both, until we were sure that Bernie was finished. Even if we suspected he didn't have the proverbial snowball's chance, we didn't want to abandon him. And we didn't want to tease the Green Party and then drop them.
That's why the Big Migration didn't start until after the endorsement.
Bernie did a great job during the second part of the revolution [first part was Occupy Wallstreet]. He worked hard, he endured a lot of abuse, and he was very faithful to the message.
Now, we're in the third part of the revolution. And no, I don't know how many parts there will be. The DNC couldn't lure me back, even with a Bernie nom.

Now that I've read lots of ideas, I have a better
picture of the purpose of this diary. Personally, I know little or nothing about Jill Stein. OTOH, I have been listening to Bernie for years. Also, Bernie is the one who worked his VERY OLD ass off, running all over the country, bringing like-minded people together for the purpose of starting a political revolution. To me, the election is secondary. In fact, I decided quite some time ago to abstain from the presidential race if Bernie wasn't a candidate. He said he would be announcing the formation of other groups, and this almost equally VERY OLD ass is going to hold out to see what that entails.
If you think there's some benefit in voting for Jill Stein, perhaps you're right. We know that the higher the percentage, the easier it is for the party to continue into the future. But, please don't think of what Bernie has accomplished as something of the past. It's really important for as many of his supporters to stay focused on the future he espoused. Especially for the youth. Without those changes, their future looks pretty grim.

when you consider that not only are they facing the potential loss of an election with Hillary, but the potential death of their party's functionality as members leave in droves towards 3rd parties, or towards Trump. If they're aware of that reality, there's a chance they may do anything to stay relevant and in power. If they're unaware, or refuse to accept that reality, then this diary's nothing more than a thought exercise.
