perspective, some morning thoughts
“When you realize how perfect everything is, you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.”
So the DNC is scheduled to devour Bernie alive in their Arena in roughly two weeks. Im currently in the camp that saying Hold on, let this play out, get those Bernie delegates to Philly, fight for every scrap possible, expose the D hypocrisy for all to see and so on ... and then after their inevitable DFH PunchFest, we keep doing what we've always done: Keep on keepin on.
We will not yield.
Some of us here in c99 have different ideas regarding tactics. Some will stand with Bernie through Philly, others have already bailed and are going with Jill Stein. I really don't have any kind of beef with anyone who has a different track than me in the next couple of weeks. If I could, I'd go myself to Philly, but that's just me. There's an abundance of protests going on, see HERE.
We knew this summer was gonna be a rough one, politically speaking. I think most of us knew the day would come when those painful words would come out of Bernie's mouth! That it was before the Convention was a surprise but whatever, he has his reasons.
I appreciate immensely what Bernie has done this past year, chaining himself to the Party (as DallasDoc so aptly put it) and fighting the good fight. He is a good and decent man. He is essentially, ironically, making a full on effort to "crash the gates" of the (D) fortress. I say ironically because, well, you guys know. He and his army may score some small wins in Philly, I wish them great success in that and I will lend a helping hand wherever I can, but I have little hope it will be enough for the challenges we face ahead. After that? Who knows. BrandNewCongress and a whole slew of things. A diversity of tactics and whatever floats your boat. DemExit now? Later? Whatever.
We didn't come this far to only come this far.
Keep your head in the game.
Remember who the real enemy is.
Clock's a-tickin'.
June 2015 through May 2016 was the hottest 12-month period on record. That was also true of May 2015 through April 2016, and the 12 months ending in March 2016. In fact, it’s true for every 12 months going all the way back to the period ending in September 2015, according to global surface temperature data compiled by Kevin Cowtan and Robert Way. We just set the record for hottest year in each of the past 9 months.

In these times everyone needs love
In these times do you pray to God
In these times everyone needs comfort
And would welcome a hand to hold
Compassion is the fire
That burns the hurt
That pains the soul
And though my eyes are so polluted
By the sight of lost desires
I can see you standing by
This is my fear
That distance will come between us
And it could mean nothing
Nothing
To get from here to there
We own the world
And everything that's in it
Let our love shine
Like glistening raindrops
Resting on a roseIn these times celebrate our love
In these times let's be thankful of
All the days we can spend together
And I'm happy to hold your hand
Your passion is the food
That feeds the hunger in my heart
And now my eyes are clearly open
No more longing for the past
Now I have you in these times
In these times everyone needs love
In these times do you pray to God
In these times everyone needs comfort
And would welcome a hand to hold
Your passion is the fire
That burns the hurt

Good morning to you, LL

I wonder whether the Conventions will be watched at all
or that a majority will watch with bated breath hoping(praying) for dual upsets? Lordy is right. I am bitterly chuckling.

As one who will
be writing in Jill Stein (Indiana) I certainly have no animosity towards Sanders. If he had won the primary I would be voting for him.
One thing that does not seem to have been discussed much is what Bernie will get for his endorsement. He may. for example, have earmarked a cabinet position (or two) for his own preferences - or possibly himself. We have no way of knowing at this stage.
As you say LL - lets see how this plays out.

Evening Fires
There is a nice widescreen television set in the front room of Pueblo West Gardens and it has access to cable channels that most people don't have, so its not unusual for the residents to sit there and watch. We've grown accustomed to the sun blinding us at approximately 6pm every night, because there are no blinds on the entrance whatsoever. The chair is set up so the sunlight hits you from the side, and it can be quite blinding.
Last night, I was relieved to not have that problem, until I saw the reason why. Apparently a wildfire wiped out 13,000 acres of brush just outside Pueblo, and the smoke was enough to completely blot out the sun that night. Nobody knows how it started yet, I think.
There have been a lot of events like this in the area lately. Not long ago, a wildfire burned right up to the edge of the Airforce Academy itself. It also threatened to damage the Royal Gorge Bridge, a suspension bridge in the mountains not far from here. We are no longer in drought conditions, but we were for about 10 years. If you go look at our reservoir, you'll notice that it's nearly empty. If we stopped getting rain for a few months we would probably be right back into drought conditions.

Good morning.... Am I the only one that got a server error this am?
I think we can walk and talk at the same time. I am going to support Bernie's inside efforts while I simultaneously join efforts to take a hammer to the DP from the outside. I don't think it is an either or proposition.

I did not bail. I moved on, which I figured I'd be doing
after the convention because I believed what Bernie said.
I'm not interested in "fighting for every scrap possible." I want and deserve more for my family and I would presume everyone wants more than scraps.
At this point, after Bernie's premature endorsement of Hillary until she was voted in as the nominee (which was more than just a "surprise" to me), I see no point in Bernie's delegates wasting all their time and money going to what will actually be a coronation for Hillary.
If I was a delegate, I wouldn't step foot in Wells Fargo. I might go to Philly just to join the protests, but I now see no point in that. My time now is better spent getting Jill Stein on the ballot in my state and educating people about her.
I believe Bernie is a good and caring person. I disagree with him being scared of Trump being president. I'm more sickened by the thought of Hillary being president than Trump.
Bernie plans to work within the democratic party to make things better. I finally realized that it's never going to get any better in the party, after a man like Bernie caved in to blackmail, so I won't be supporting his efforts.
A great article that I can't blockquote now,
that I agree with most of the content.

Thank you, Shirley,
for the link. Yes, a good article!
Exactly my sentiments.
Nobody with a brain believes they can fight the Republican party to give the 99% a scrap, and believing we can fight the Democratic party to guarantee us an occasional scrap is a way of diverting us from the 2 events that will destroy us: climate change and WWIII.
Damn some scraps.

Trump will win Texas. My vote for Stein is only if I have the time to go vote. I just may be too busy.

on the ballot. Maybe a supreme court judge, maybe ag commissioner at state level.....
In my county, there isn't a single dem on the ballot.
We do not have a dem party in my county.

I will not be missing any opportunity to promote progressive policies if I don't vote.
That is how badly the party has failed locally.
We run a candidate that is for shrinking government and building an immigration detention center, the republicans run a similar candidate who tosses in gun and Christian values.
They are all the same.

Ditto.
I live in North Texas, in a bedroom suburb of Dallas. Redstate.
Plan to write in Bernie, if that works. I think he is past the deadline here for third party.
Never FSC.
To guilt Bernie supporters in Texas is pointless. No Clinton ads. FSC is toast in this state and I even spent time this morning talking seriously to my spouse about why people will not vote for either candidate who heads a crime family.
I hope the FSC outcome is much like Richard Daley in Chicago - a crime family whose power trickles away once the figurehead is gone.
Navarro County Texas here . . .
I have to go and vote against that asshole Joe Barton. Although, it is true that there are hardly any democrats even on the ballot here. Early December is way too early a deadline to get on the ballot. Basically, only the rich can do that. You get on the ballot either by having a bunch of signatures or a bunch of money. Not all races are the same in their requirements either. Most races require 5,000 signatures or $5,000 (I think that's right without looking it up). But to be Railroad Commissioner you need 50,000 signatures. WTF Someone somewhere wants that position to only be held by a rich person. Almost a whole year before the election . . . there is no time to organize a decent grassroots thing.
Green Party is on the ballot here - so that's good.
Really, I should get involved in some effort to unseat Joe. I think there is a female democrat running against him. Wish there would be a movement the even larger asshole, Louie Gohmert.

Good morning, LL.
I'm supporting both Bernie and Jill. We'll see how it plays out - I've always been in that camp. Of course I've despaired about Bernie and the possibilities, but stranger things have happened and can happen, so throwing in the towel doesn't sit well with me, either. We must keep moving forward, pushing our progressive platform, toward the America we want to live in.

Bernie's still my guy, if that's possible,
But my last donation to him came with an ActBlue message that it was the last of my year of automatic donations, and I sent a first donation to Jill, plus one to Brand New Congress.
If Bernie isn't an option, I'll vote for Jill, unless Hillary seems to have a chance to win my state. Then I'd have to vote for Trump - he opposes the TPP (climate death with Hillary) and opposes our military aggressions (WWWIII with Hillary). Those are eventualities we wouldn't survive.
I totally get it, Sunspots.
We are all going to do what we have to do in the end. Voting is a very personal thing, which I take seriously. I know my vote can be stolen, which is troubling, but I will do my part honorably as you will, too.

Good morning LL
and all the rest of you c99ers. You are so right to emphasize climate change as the great enemy that should be our focus. That's part of the great disappointment with the platform - which is profracking and anti carbon tax.
It would take a global effort of massive scale to deal with this ever increasing problem with all the power of the fuel industries working against us. Quite a conundrum, and the real challenge of our time.
All the best to all of you!

Good morning all.
I like to think that Bernie helped to wake some people up and showed that there are many who know the status quo is wrong in many ways. I will take that as a huge victory gained with much effort on his part. The next step is to capitalize on that knowledge. The people in this country and on this planet have a responsibility to try and set things right. When the rare person comes along and tries to point us in the better direction, I regard that as a rare opportunity. I'm not sure Bernie could have done more than he did.
I was reading a poem by Quincy Troupe that seems relevant to this discussion.
From: The Architecture of Language, Parts 9 and 10
So yes, I am afraid of our current choices which is a sentiment that seems to be shared by many Americans according to the poll referenced in the comments. The troglodytes (of either gender) in our political class have been catastrophically destructive to this world. They are dangerous and for the most part, stupid people, and should not be anywhere near the reins of power.
Another interesting video.
I guess this means we ignore the Hillbots.

I'm not in the "It's Still Possible" camp.
Bernie's run is over for me. He can't go on morning talk shows saying "Hellery must be our next president" and still maintain credibility. Thanks for all you did Bernie. We'll take it from here.

Yes
And climate crisis is the big enemy.
I see the platform fight as more of an educational tool and a tool to clarify definitions. The DNC in it's pure form doesn't take climate change seriously. It is just a talking point. But I believe that the work Bill McKibbon and others did with their amendments educated individuals. Regardless of how they voted (or were told to vote), now that they know more facts, they will be voting against their consciences. The platform is also a tool by which we can clarify positions. It's didn't go far enough. Lines can be drawn.
I have never thought that the democratic party platform was going to be progressive. I am surprised that many good things were included. But especially on climate and trade, it just didn't go far enough. Now we can make a chart and contrast democrat/republican/green/libertarian positions. And Bernie's team can claim that they tried everything they could to build a progressive platform.

This reinforces much of what I have been thinking, lately. -That we need to reach out to the undecideds, and skip confronting what are effectively religious fanatics. Persuade the majority first. And we must stop waiting for attacks, and only then fend them off. We need a new paradigm to propagate a sane and rational approach to our problems. I feel an essay coming on...
