Wunnerful pix, Joe--snow?
A raucous day on FB, I will try to copy/paste one exchange:Setup: Rumdum phone company Frontier has a bison as their charismatic spokesanimal. Today's question (with some history background before is "have you ever seen a bald eagle? Names intact, my terse answer first:
I really must get to know Kimberly.
Another one about shoal marking on the St Lawrence River:(expanded for the love)
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
evening riverlover...
heh, there has been plenty of snow at some of the elevations i've been kicking around in. suffice it to say, i've been many thousands of feet higher than i usually am. B)
Joe, Looks like
California dreamin' ! Also looks like good weather and travel for the Shikspacks. Be safe and have fun for us.
Happy solstice and full moon to all!

evening lookout...
the weather has been terriffic, it has been beautifully cool and sunny most of the time. my only weather regret is that every night that i've been in places with very little light pollution the sky has been overcast and i haven't been able to get the night sky shots i was hoping for. on the other hand, in the last couple of days i've seen a good amount of wildlife - moose, elk, antelope, bighorn sheep, bison and a grizzly bear.
This is an open thread, right?
My daughter, my only child, served in the military during the 9/11 era. When she came home, she was a stranger, with physical damage, VERY LITTLE frustration tolerance, etc. But at least she was alive.
Time and lots of therapy have helped a lot. But she was basically unemployable, which was a shame because I was doing a lousy job of supporting both of us. So the VA sent her to college and she graduated this spring. Yay! But she is still unemployable.
So the VA procured an internship within the VA itself in a spot where they honestly need someone [the previous person was promoted]. The VA will pay her a stipend during this time, like they did during her school years.
Today was her first day. The poor darling is exhausted and probably asleep by now. She got all anxious last night and didn't get any sleep. She spent all day trying to look intelligent and easy to get along with. Poor baby.
But it is a step forward. And we'll take it a day at a time for now.
Sorry to take up so much of your time but I needed to lay down my burden for a little while. Thanks for listening.

Lay your burden down, featheredsprite.
There are other mothers of the US' ForeverWar on this site, carrying burdens like your own. Former victims of the military, too, struggling with their problems, too.
Parents of military vets as well as military vets are members of the 99%. This is your online home, too.
Now you try to get some rest, too.

Thank you.

Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
Tears and prayers for both of you.
be very proud that she made it alive and through college ...
Even if it hasn't helped much to find her a job per se, she has something going on for herself now. That is great ! All you and her went through may have been a burden, but then, you made it and she did too. It could be worse, there is room to be grateful for something at least.
Be happy. I think many members here are Veterans, family members of Veterans, so I believe they all have an open ear for some exhaustion dealing with whatever they have a hard time to accept.
Somehow I have taken it too very often one day at a time with my son, who served in the same time period and came back after five and half years another person. It's so important to have a job and to be able to get along. One day at a time.... I learned to pray. Good luck to you and your daughter.

joe, I don't know if you check in
But if you do, since you are at Mono lake, you are so close to Mammoth lakes and I hope you can go there.
The area is the backside of Yosemite and imo, much more beautiful.
I m hoping to be able to get back there some day with my digital camera.
I ran out of film during my visit there.

evening snoopy...
nice shot - thanks!
i didn't have time to get up to mammoth lake this trip. there are a bunch of things that i missed that i'd really like to see - or see without tourists crawling all over them. i'm hoping to make an off-season visit to yosemite and a couple of other parks sometime down the road.
Hey you, great to hear from you
Were you at Yosemite when Obama was there? I hope during your next trip that you can make it to mammoth.
I'm sure that you noticed that the area around Mono lake isn't very pretty, IIRC and the drive to and the town of mammoth isn't either. I was disappointed in the actual town because I thought it would look more like Jackson Hole and have all types of touristy attractions.
But imagine my surprise when I took the road up to the 5 lakes. It doesn't take long before the scenery turns absolutely beautiful and next turn around the bend was the view of the mountains. I think they are called the Minarets and as I wrote, I like mammoth much better than Yosemite.
I hope that you are having a great time, but I sur miss your EBs.
Have fun, be safe and see you soon.

So, big freaking shocker but...
Congress can't pass Gun Control Legislation.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxlhyX-4qKI]
Why do we even bother going to the politicians anymore? Let's all just give the money to the NRA and outbid the Arms Manufacturers for their services.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Four gun control bills in the Senate today and,
according to NPR, the Rs voted down the two D bills because they were too restrictive while the Ds voted down the two R bills because they weren't restrictive enough.
Which had me wondering: Why didn't the Ds vote for the watered-down R bills and try for more restrictions another day?
Meanwhile, there are no plans to vote on any gun control measures in the House (ever?).
And, of course, no mention at all on restricting US arms sales abroad.

mmmm,
inviting water. Sure looks good, joe.
Happy Monday, and Good Evening.
evening olinda...
the water in lake mono looks more inviting than it actually is. it's very alkaline and quite salty. mark twain described it as "the dead sea of california."
a happy evening to you, too!
Just watched Wales destroy Russia
3-0 in the Euro championship. Great stuff.
And enjoyed Albania beating Romania 1-0 yesterday. First time for them in a major competition. First goal in a major competition. First victory in a major competition. Tirana must have been busting after that.
Gëzuar!!

I love this singing by fans
after Northern Ireland scored against Ukraine from a couple of days ago. Their song was "Sweet Caroline" by Neal Diamond, of all things.
Norn Iron play Germany next
Should be a great game.

Well ... the movement ... apparently she believes there will be one... she has still a positive outlook.

evening mimi...
i hope that there will still be a movement after july as well. i'm cautiously optimistic. i didn't have enough bandwidth to watch the video, but hopefully klein and other opinion leaders like her will not fall in line behind voting for "the lesser evil."
In today's BNR there is a video clip of Naomi Klein
speaking from the People's summit. She sounded to me a bit more determined to stay put and fight than in the Paul Jay interview. I hope somehow that in a couple of days people regroup and get over the initial disappointments.
