It looks so hot and dry.
Maybe it's just my perception today. It is 90 degrees F here and has been for a few days. Supposed to continue all week. Hot, Hot, Hot.
Thank you for the water picture, joe. Now that looks inviting.
Hey, I posted last night that your vacation is long! What do you think this is, Sweden? Didn't get too many tips. Don't think people appreciated it. Miss you is all.
morning olinda...
it was moderately hot there (depending on elevation), but it was very dry. there were times that i felt like i was in a convection oven and the moisture was being sucked out of my body as i walked.
i managed to wangle 3 weeks and i've packed it pretty full. i miss you guys, too. hopefully tonight or tomorrow i'll get through my photos of yosemite and post them for you guys.
Didn't you find it easier to deal with than MD humidity though?
I went to Moab in August (not the best time of year!). It was in the upper 90s everyday. But we were still able to go out and climb and hike and basically enjoy the outdoors.
It's such a difference to the wilting, wet blanket feeling of August in Maryland!
And the part I really loved was that as soon as the sun went down, it was in the pleasant 60s all night.
I REALLY want to move out West. My sister lives in Colorado, and the climate is delightful.
Thank you, joe
for replying. I wasn't sure if you had time to read through the threads every day or not. Sure glad you are having a good time. Wish I was there. 3 weeks is so nice. Almost Sweden.
Most of my working life I had 2 weeks. Then, after working at one place 10 years, I started getting 4 weeks. I had that for 4 years, and then got laid off with a merger. Started back over at 2 weeks and never did get 4 again. Life is so unfair, eh?
Looking forward to more pictures! Stay cool (and moisturized ).
Repost of Snowden HBO video
In case anyone missed the posting in gjohnsit's News Dump, I hope a reposting is okay.
"least untruthful"
Burned in my brain. WTF does that mean?
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
I did miss it - thanks for reposting.
Great interview.
Nice photos again - many thanks. Zion - please allow me to guess
Checkerboard Mesa on the east side of the tunnel - great example of cross-bedding
View downcanyon from - maybe - Weeping Rock or closer to the Temple of Sinawava
Looks like the base of Angels Landing - There's a wonderful trail to the top with log chains embedded in the sandstone
View of the Virgin River
Ground squirrel - its fleas carry bubonic plague
Mule deer

morning duckpin...
you've pretty much got everything right. the view downcanyon is from weeping rock.
heh, i wasn't able to do the angel's landing trail, it was just too much for my old bones. my nephews and niece climbed it a few years ago. so i took pictures from below.
Beautiful photos Joe
All of those places are on my must visit list. am hoping to finally get a vacation next spring and could possibly end up taking them all in.
Hope your vacation is going well

morning steve...
all of those places are just amazing places to experience. i'm having a blast.
if i was going to do bryce or especially zion again, though, i would do them in the off season. zion is really overcrowded with people. the only way to see the canyon during the season (assuming that you don't have a few weeks to do it walking or by bike) is by being packed in like sardines in their shuttle busses. it's not the optimal way to experience the canyon. that said, it's an incredibly beautiful place and i wish that i had more time to explore it.

hi mimi...
thanks for keeping up with the world while i'm off gallivanting around.
Enough is enough
Come back, Joe!

I'm actually enjoying the pictures too much for you to come back. Lived in the Southwest for a while and although I missed the greenness and seasons of the MidAtlantic region, the skies and sites were/are awe-inspiring out there.

morning tbiwdc...
heh, from my point of view, i'll be back at work all too soon.
Redacto-rama - Redacto-Palooza - or how would you call this?
Apparently they just can do what they want.
https://www.euronews.com/live
Like letting Goebbels redact Nuremberg trial evidence documents.
It’s ridiculous. Godwin be d---d. They can get away with anything and everything because they can destroy all records outright (as was done with MK-ULTRA) or redact it such that oversight is meaningless and accountability non-existent.
Wait a minute.
"Stunned" that the CIA is not telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?
Sweethearts, where have y'all been for the last half century?

Barbaric Conditions That Led to a Detainee's Death - CIA Report
Barbaric Conditions That Led to a Detainee's Death Are Laid Bare in CIA Reports - By Jason Leopold - June 14, 2016 | 2:55 pm
So, now what, will anybody be hold accountable for this?
https://www.euronews.com/live
Who would hold the CIA accountable? The President? Congress?
American politicians are too
busy feeding at the $$$
trough - before and during
elections, while serving
their paymasters, and
especially after leaving
elected and appointed office -
to ever consider getting cut
out of the $$$ by holding
anyone accountable for
anything, banksters, the CIA,
payday loan lenders.
As Jimmy Carter said in the
summer of 2013, the US
does not have a functioning
democracy. Probably for
far longer than before Carter
dared say so in that 2013
event in Atlanta where he
knew the press was present
to report his words, which
only the German press did,
but only in German.

It doesn't get better than this:
Gingrich: Let's Create New Version Of House Un-American Activities Committee
Gingrich calls for the most Un-American committee. Have fun.
https://www.euronews.com/live
that was courageous of Truman, criticizing HUAC too late
when he was out of office when he could have done it while he was in office when it might have mattered.
Heard Hillary calling Trump and his followers un-American
just a few hours ago in some
speech or speaking of hers
covered by the BBC.
Yes, folks, the new Cold War
is well and
truly underway, complete
with seeking out or just
making up those un-American
enough to oppose it, or just
un-American enough to be
disliked by Clinton or
Gingrich, who I keep
reading is very high on the
short list to be Trump's VP.

Saw this elsewhere, LMFAO watching it
Trying to get video to show, hope it works
When I was a kid, Republicans used to red scare people, now it's the Democrats. I am getting too damn old for this crap!
joe, I can't believe you're at Kodachrome Basin!
I clicked on the EBs to ask you when you're coming home, and there you are ... in the exact place where I spent a week as a lone camper (with dog), and had my mind blown by a landscape unlike any worldly landscape I had ever seen before. I left feeling like I had spent a week wandering through the most beautiful natural sculpture garden that might exist anywhere. You are the first person I have met that has been there.
No rush to come home
Sorry for that weird looking, constantly moving emoji
Not intended.
morning janis...
heh, i get around.
i loved kodakchrome basin. i wish i had been able to hang out at night and check out the stars, but we saw that it was going to cloud over and time was tight.
i hope that you are having a great time, too!
I totally get it ...
There's so much to expand ones experience in the area you are traveling in. It's nice to know how much you are enjoying it!
Does anyone have the link for the Thurs Bernie conference call?
News sites and twitter are saying one can sign up on Berniesanders.com, but I didn't see it. I maybe would have to be an official Bernie activist to see it.
Sorry to say that blogging and financial contributions are all I've done for Bernie this year.
Anyway, if you know how to get on that call, let me know.
mimi
You have the best sig-line ever.
I`ve liked it since the first time I saw it.

AFAICT the military and spy agencies now run the govt
And there are competing factions, so many as to look like the factions on the ground throughout the ME. Snowden, bless him, may now be a savant paranoid. But he was an insider, low-level who escaped to expat by force with goods.
why the hell did the spy agencies not whistleblow Hillary's convenient server setup? What's their long game? They (the amorphous they) approve of her puppet placing? This is a scary domino setup.

Whose interests does the “Free Syrian Army” really represent?
And why is the U.S. establishment so gung-ho about backing this so-called Free Syrian Army?
Here’s a clue that you’d think pretty much settles it.
Yep. A representative of the (so-called) Free Syrian Army is a panel member at the by-invitation-only Herzliya conference in Israel.
