Maybe it's just my perception today. It is 90 degrees F here and has been for a few days. Supposed to continue all week. Hot, Hot, Hot.

Thank you for the water picture, joe. Now that looks inviting.

Hey, I posted last night that your vacation is long! What do you think this is, Sweden? Smile Didn't get too many tips. Don't think people appreciated it. Wink Miss you is all.

it was moderately hot there (depending on elevation), but it was very dry. there were times that i felt like i was in a convection oven and the moisture was being sucked out of my body as i walked.

i managed to wangle 3 weeks and i've packed it pretty full. i miss you guys, too. hopefully tonight or tomorrow i'll get through my photos of yosemite and post them for you guys.

I went to Moab in August (not the best time of year!). It was in the upper 90s everyday. But we were still able to go out and climb and hike and basically enjoy the outdoors.

It's such a difference to the wilting, wet blanket feeling of August in Maryland!

And the part I really loved was that as soon as the sun went down, it was in the pleasant 60s all night.

I REALLY want to move out West. My sister lives in Colorado, and the climate is delightful.

for replying. I wasn't sure if you had time to read through the threads every day or not. Sure glad you are having a good time. Wish I was there. Smile 3 weeks is so nice. Almost Sweden. Smile

Most of my working life I had 2 weeks. Then, after working at one place 10 years, I started getting 4 weeks. I had that for 4 years, and then got laid off with a merger. Started back over at 2 weeks and never did get 4 again. Life is so unfair, eh?

Looking forward to more pictures! Stay cool (and moisturized Smile ).

Checkerboard Mesa on the east side of the tunnel - great example of cross-bedding

View downcanyon from - maybe - Weeping Rock or closer to the Temple of Sinawava

Looks like the base of Angels Landing - There's a wonderful trail to the top with log chains embedded in the sandstone

View of the Virgin River

Ground squirrel - its fleas carry bubonic plague

you've pretty much got everything right. the view downcanyon is from weeping rock.

heh, i wasn't able to do the angel's landing trail, it was just too much for my old bones. my nephews and niece climbed it a few years ago. so i took pictures from below.

all of those places are just amazing places to experience. i'm having a blast.

if i was going to do bryce or especially zion again, though, i would do them in the off season. zion is really overcrowded with people. the only way to see the canyon during the season (assuming that you don't have a few weeks to do it walking or by bike) is by being packed in like sardines in their shuttle busses. it's not the optimal way to experience the canyon. that said, it's an incredibly beautiful place and i wish that i had more time to explore it.

A Midafternoon BNR: Sanders Lays Out His Ideas For The Party Platform
He is quite clear, does it mean anything specific?

Sen. Bernie Sanders called Tuesday for new leadership at the Democratic National Committee and said the party’s national convention in July needs to make it “crystal clear” Democrats stand with working people and the poor.

He also called for open primaries — in which independents could vote for Democratic candidates — and for doing away with superdelegates, the party officials and leaders who are free to vote for the candidate of their choice at the convention. And he argued for same-day voter registration.

Sanders made his comments outside his Washington campaign headquarters after meeting behind closed doors with Senate Democratic colleagues. Washington held its primary Tuesday, the final nominating contest of the Democratic presidential campaign season.

Sanders plans to meet later Tuesday with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Washington.

Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware, who attended the meeting between Sanders and other Senate Democrats, said Sanders told colleagues he plans to play an active role in crafting the party’s platform.

“He mentioned he has every intention of being involved in the platform process and making sure his 2,000 delegates have the opportunity to have their voices heard,” at the party’s convention, Carper said.

He meets with Clinton later

I'm actually enjoying the pictures too much for you to come back. Lived in the Southwest for a while and although I missed the greenness and seasons of the MidAtlantic region, the skies and sites were/are awe-inspiring out there.

It’s ridiculous. Godwin be d---d. They can get away with anything and everything because they can destroy all records outright (as was done with MK-ULTRA) or redact it such that oversight is meaningless and accountability non-existent.

Barbaric Conditions That Led to a Detainee's Death Are Laid Bare in CIA Reports - By Jason Leopold - June 14, 2016 | 2:55 pm

Four of the cells at the black site — it was located in Afghanistan and code-named COBALT, but it was also referred to as the Salt Pit — had "high bars... to which prisoners can be secured." These four cells were designed specifically for sleep deprivation.

The prison is where a 34-year-old Afghan militant and suspected al-Qaeda operative named Gul Rahman froze to death in November 2002 after undergoing a brutal torture regimen that included being beaten, doused with cold water, and left half-naked while chained to the floor of his cell. Several of the techniques CIA interrogators used on Rahman were unauthorized; in August 2002, a Department of Justice attorney named John Yoo had written a legal memo sanctioning nearly a dozen torture methods for use on high-value captives.
...
The graphic description of the conditions of Rahman's confinement and the disastrous operations of COBALT were laid bare in 14-year-old, closely guarded CIA reports that probed the circumstances of his death; those reports [pdf at the end of this article] were just turned over to VICE News in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit. Separately, the CIA also declassified and publicly posted to its website a trove of other documents related to its so-called "rendition, detention, and interrogation" program and the treatment of detainees in custody of the agency in response to separate FOIA lawsuits filed by VICE News and the ACLU.

So, now what, will anybody be hold accountable for this?

American politicians are too
busy feeding at the $$$
trough - before and during
elections, while serving
their paymasters, and
especially after leaving
elected and appointed office -
to ever consider getting cut
out of the $$$ by holding
anyone accountable for
anything, banksters, the CIA,
payday loan lenders.

As Jimmy Carter said in the
summer of 2013, the US
does not have a functioning
democracy. Probably for
far longer than before Carter
dared say so in that 2013
event in Atlanta where he
knew the press was present
to report his words, which
only the German press did,
but only in German.

Gingrich: Let's Create New Version Of House Un-American Activities Committee

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich proposed the creation of a new version of the controversial House Un-American Activities Committee to root out American citizens who plan to commit terrorist attacks in the U.S.

“We originally created the House Un-American Activities Committee to go after Nazis. We passed several laws in 1938 and 1939 to go after Nazis and we made it illegal to help the Nazis. We're going to presently have to go take the similar steps here,” Gingrich said...
...
Originally founded in 1938, the committee investigated suspected threats of Nazi subversion and anti-government propaganda. During the Cold War, its activities sprawled, leading to the blacklist of Hollywood stars and left-wing activists, writers, and academics accused of having Communist ties.

In 1959, former President Harry Truman infamously called the committee “the most un-American thing in the country today.”

Gingrich calls for the most Un-American committee. Have fun.

truly underway, complete

I clicked on the EBs to ask you when you're coming home, and there you are ... in the exact place where I spent a week as a lone camper (with dog), and had my mind blown by a landscape unlike any worldly landscape I had ever seen before. I left feeling like I had spent a week wandering through the most beautiful natural sculpture garden that might exist anywhere. You are the first person I have met that has been there.

No rush to come home Lol

News sites and twitter are saying one can sign up on Berniesanders.com, but I didn't see it. I maybe would have to be an official Bernie activist to see it.

Sorry to say that blogging and financial contributions are all I've done for Bernie this year.

Anyway, if you know how to get on that call, let me know.

And there are competing factions, so many as to look like the factions on the ground throughout the ME. Snowden, bless him, may now be a savant paranoid. But he was an insider, low-level who escaped to expat by force with goods.

why the hell did the spy agencies not whistleblow Hillary's convenient server setup? What's their long game? They (the amorphous they) approve of her puppet placing? This is a scary domino setup.

And why is the U.S. establishment so gung-ho about backing this so-called Free Syrian Army?

Here’s a clue that you’d think pretty much settles it.

Yep. A representative of the (so-called) Free Syrian Army is a panel member at the by-invitation-only Herzliya conference in Israel.
