BNR - 'Sanders Is Set To Meet With Obama & Reid' & 'Bernie's Influence Is Evident'

Obama On The Battle Between The Campaigns

President Obama said the primary battle between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders was a “healthy thing” for the Democratic Party and that his role going forward will be to remind people that the job of being president “is not reality TV," in an interview with “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“It was a healthy thing for the Democratic Party to have a contested primary. I thought that Bernie Sanders brought enormous energy and new ideas. And he pushed the party and challenged them. I thought it made Hillary a better candidate,” the president said in an advance clip of the interview that will air in full on NBC tomorrow night.

The president stopped short of calling for Sanders to drop out of the race now that Clinton has officially surpassed the number of delegates needed to make her the presumptive Democratic nominee and said “there’s a natural process of everybody recognizing that this is not about any individual” after a hard-fought primary.

“I'm gonna be talkin' to him tomorrow, he's gonna be coming to the White House" the president said of Sanders. "And the main role I'm gonna be playing in this process is to remind the American people that this is a serious job. You know, this is not reality TV."

Asked by Fallon is he thinks Republicans are happy with their choice with Donald Trump now the presumptive nominee, the president quipped jokingly in reply, “We are.”

Bernie's Influence Evident As Dems Draft A Platform

A day after Hillary Clinton claimed the nomination, Sanders supporters on a committee drafting the party platform played an active role in the first of a series of regional public hearings across the country. Former Attorney General Eric Holder, one of the witnesses at the hearing, found himself on the defensive when civil rights activist Cornel West asked why there isn't an “equal application of the law when it comes to Wall Street,” a common target for Sanders.

“How can we ensure as we write this platform that we have got some serious law enforcement when it comes to crime on Wall Street?” asked West, one of five supporters selected by Sanders to serve on the 15-member committee.

Holder acknowledged the Justice Department has been criticized for not charging Wall Street executives in connection with the housing crisis, saying the reason wasn’t lack of desire or resources. He urged the platform drafting committee to consider the standards of proof required for economic crimes.

“If you think we could have made those cases, do you think we would not have?” he asked.

..

Climate activist and Vermont author Bill McKibben, one of the Sanders supporters on the drafting committee, said he'll push the Vermont senator's ideas as the committee crafts the platform, which will get a vote at the convention.

“I think it’s got to be one of the vehicles for uniting people in a common effort against Donald Trump,” said McKibben. “There are millions and millions and millions of people who (Sanders) brought into this process. So it’s good to see those views represented so far here.”

Biden Says To Let Sanders Decide

Vice President Joe Biden urged patience Wednesday when asked whether Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders should get out of the presidential race now that Hillary Clinton has become the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“I think that’s his call,” Biden said while leaving the Senate chamber. “It’s clear we know who the nominee is going to be. I think we should be a little graceful and give him the opportunity to decide on his own.”

After deciding not to enter the race himself, Biden often made favorable comments about Sanders but did not endorse a candidate.

Later the White House said Sanders has “more than earned the right to make his own decisions about his campaign,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said, President Barack Obama won’t be publicly calling for him to step out of the race. Obama and Sanders are expected to meet Thursday at 11:15 a.m. ET.

After he meets with Obama tomorrow, Sanders is scheduled to meet with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid at the Capitol.

An NPR Interview With Jeff Merkley

SIEGEL: Well, in terms of policy positions that Senator Sanders took, what would be an appropriate acknowledgment of his campaign in the platform that emerges from the Democratic convention?

MERKLEY: Well, certainly that's a question best put to Bernie Sanders himself, but I think that he will probably put forward ideas that are related to the corrupting role of Citizens United and Buckley versus Valeo court decisions and the need to restore a by-and-for-the-people republic envisioned in our Constitution instead of the of-, by- and for-the-most-powerful system that we have right now.

SIEGEL: So you're saying campaign finance.

MERKLEY: Campaign finance, key efforts related to global warming and pivoting off of fossil fuels. I'm sure there will be discussion about things related to working Americans. Perhaps it will be endorsement of the national minimum wage, which is woefully inadequate and has been greatly diminished by inflation.

SIEGEL: If you were to sum up what you think the legacy of the Sanders campaign has been this year, what would you say?

MERKLEY: He has changed the conversation in America. Americans have powerfully sensed that we're off track. There is a structural challenge in our economy that needs to be addressed. What Sanders has done is he's focused the nation on the fact that these things are not inevitable. They are the result of policies. We can do better to create an economy that works well for working Americans.

Sanders & The French Initiative

Following the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, the next administration must adopt a new and realistically balanced policy toward Israel and the Palestinians to bring an end to their conflict in the context of a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace based on the Arab Peace Initiative. Throughout the primary campaign, only Senator Bernie Sanders had a position on this consuming conflict that was fresh, balanced, and welcome, especially given the increased intractability of the conflict and its dangerous implications not only for Israel and the Palestinians, but also for the US’s strategic interests in the Middle East.

The continuation of the conflict also has direct consequences on the security of the EU, precisely because it feeds into the region’s extremism from which the EU suffers greatly. In this regard, France’s initiative to resume Israeli-Palestinian negotiations is timely and should be pursued despite the initial lack of consensus at a recent meeting in Paris between the European, American, and Arab foreign ministers on convening an international conference at the end of the year to address the conflict in earnest.

Throughout the primary campaign, Sanders articulated his position concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that: “I read Secretary Clinton’s speech before AIPAC, I heard virtually no discussion at all about the needs of the Palestinian people... Of course Israel has a right to defend itself, but long term there will never be peace in that region, unless the United States plays... an even-handed role in trying to bring people together and recognizing the serious problems that exist among the Palestinian people ... There comes a time when if we pursue justice and peace we are going to have to say that Netanyahu is not right all of the time.” [emphasis added]

Many Israeli and American Jews cynically accuse Senator Sanders of being an apologetic, self-hating Jew who is willing to bend backwards only to demonstrate that he is even-handed, when in fact he is undermining, from their perspective, Israel’s national security concerns.

On the contrary, I maintain that Sanders has taken this even-handed position precisely because he is committed to Israel’s security and well-being; he fully understands that time is against Israel, and those who really care about Israel’s future must speak out.

..
By raising the need for the US to play an even-handed role to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Sanders has introduced a new critically important paradigm that the next administration must adopt, and in conjunction with the French initiative, they can create a much better prospect of ending the debilitating and explosive seven decades-old conflict.

LoL, This Is Pretty FUnny

Bernie Sanders may be a super long shot to win the Democratic presidential nomination — but Hollywood talent shops believe the 74-year-old Vermont senator is a shoo-in as pitchman and public speaker, The Post has learned.

United Talent Agency is one agency hoping to sign up the “Feel the Bern” candidate, sources said.

“Sen. Sanders has started a grassroots movement that speaks loudly to Gen Y,” UTA Managing Director Jay Sures told The Post on Wednesday. “It’s a demographic that just about everyone is vying for.”

“While it is the end of his campaign, I think it is just the beginning of his message,” said Sures, whose shop reps such Hollywood talent as Johnny Depp and Will Ferrell.

UTA has been wooing Sanders, though he has yet to agree to Hollywood representation — maybe because the Sanders campaign has no known plans to call off the campaign.

Talent agency sources said Sanders could command speaking fees of up to $150,000 a pop.

Bernie's Campaigning For Feingold Paid Off

The campaign will ramp up the use of its golden email list, estimated to be 2 million to 3 million strong, to help fundraise for progressive down-ticket candidates. On Tuesday the senator announced two more endorsements of progressive congressional candidates and asked his fans to donate to their campaigns. Sanders has already raised more than $2 million for his chosen Democrats, including Rep. Raul M. Grijalva of Arizona, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Tim Canova of Florida, who has mounted a primary challenge against Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

According to the campaign, over 10,000 people contributed to a Vermont State Senate candidate after Sanders picked him and directed his followers his way. The Sanders campaign says its email blast generated enough donations to fully fund the local candidate's campaign.

“Politicians are many things, but they are not dumb, and they understand that if people are united and want something, they better give it to them or the politicians will join the ranks of the unemployed,” Sanders told his crowd in Palo Alto, California, last week.

Shaun King's Thank You Letter To Sanders

Thank you for staring the Democratic establishment in the face and deciding not to be an idle spectator when it mattered most.

Thank you for ignoring the early poll numbers that had you down by 60%.

Thank you for ignoring the experts who suggested you'd only win your home state of Vermont and nowhere else.

Thank you for actually listening to the Black Lives Matters protestors who interrupted you and demanded that you earnestly acknowledged police brutality and propose real solutions to it.

Thank you for accepting misfits, radicals, rabble-rousers and rappers into the inner circle of your campaign from the very beginning.

Thank you for calling out corporate America and the growing billionaire class on their shameful and dangerous greed.

Thank you for refusing to take even a dime from a Super PAC even though your campaign could've used the money.

Thank you for calling out the corporate media and how they represent ratings and special interests more than they'll ever admit.

Thank you Bernie.

Reich Also Writes To Sanders

I don’t know what you’re going to do from here on, and I’m not going to advise you. You’ve earned the right to figure out the next steps for your campaign and the movement you have launched.

But let me tell you this: You’ve already succeeded.

At the start they labeled you a “fringe” candidate – a 74-year-old, political Independent, Jewish, self-described democratic socialist, who stood zero chance against the Democratic political establishment, the mainstream media, and the moneyed interests.

Then you won 22 states.

And in almost every state – even in those you lost – you won vast majorities of voters under 30, including a majority of young women and Latinos. And most voters under 45.

You have helped shape the next generation.

You’ve done it without SuperPACs or big money from corporations, Wall Street, and billionaires. You did it with small contributions from millions of us. You’ve shown it can be done without selling your soul or compromising your conviction.

You’ve also inspired millions of us to get involved in politics – and to fight the most important and basic of all fights on which all else depends: to reclaim our economy and democracy from the moneyed interests.

..

We will not succumb to cynicism. We are in it for the long haul. We will never give up.

Bernie Makes An Endorsement

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has endorsed Democrat Paul Clements in his bid against incumbent Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, Clements' campaign announced this week.

The endorsement from Sanders was largely based on Clements' positions on climate change, according to a statement from Clements' campaign.

"I look forward to working with him to solve the issues that face America today, like the corrosive influence of money in politics and the fact the wealthiest people in this country play by a different set of rules," Clements said.

"Together, Senator Sanders and I will stand together to make the United States a leader in the fight against climate change — in a Congress where Democrats have earned a majority in both houses," he continued.

All this talk of, "he's changed the conversation," is empty rhetoric. More than conversations need to be changed. If he bends to their "unity" mode, what will it all have been for? Guess we'll find out today.

I sure expect him to carry on. He says to the convention. The District of Columbia votes June 14 and he's doing some rallies. Also, as has been noted at c99, California is still counting potentially millions of votes. They have until July 8 to report the count to the Secy State.

I doubt Obama can talk him out of doing what he knows is best.

The struggle continues.

can not endorse Sanders?

I can't believe that everybody seems to think it is a given that Obama HAS to be "neutral" (which he is not as long as he is silent and enables dirty tricks in primaries to be left unpunished or unaccounted for - he could, if he had integrity as a lawyer in him, at least criticize the main stream media abuse of the electoral process in declaring HRC as a "clinching" nominee.) There are no rules engraved in stone that he has to be a "uniter" or has to endorse Clinton.

All his "uniting" efforts during his Presidency has resulted in everything but unity. Using racism and sexism as arguments and political tools has caused racism and sexism to increase. (And not only in the US, it's a phenomenon spreading like wildfire throughout the inter tubes jumping over into real life spaces).

Obama has disappointed in many ways, but to me this tops it.

Generally it is bad form for a President to get involved in a Primary by picking sides. It is supposed to be left to the people to decide in a primary.

I suppose he could have endorsed Bernie, but I don't think he ever wanted to. He has always wanted Hillary to win - imo. He is the establishment that Bernie is fighting. Now, of course, establishment players like Obama accept that Hillary is the nominee, so Obama just wants to get out there and campaign for her. As President he is the head of the Democratic Party more or less, so is expected now to help the Democratic nominee get elected.

I understand your disappointment. This whole country can be a disappointment. I think it was never in the cards that Obama would be for Bernie, however, so it was too much to expect, or hope for. He is probably more like Clinton than like Sanders as well. He is not the liberal Democrat we thought he was when we voted for him.

Hillary campaigned hard for Obama as well. Maybe he feels it's his turn to help her now.

Well, a few random thoughts.

and throw his support to HRC. The real reason is there is a possibility that HRC will be indicted. If Bernie is still nominally in the race, he would have a good chance of being nominated if there is an HRC indictment. If he withdraws from the race, it will be much easier for Obama, the DNC and other corporate Democrats to install one of their own as the presidential nominee. I obviously hope Bernie does not withdraw and I don't think he will.

Despite their almost total disregard of him, we are still seeing new "reports" on income inequality. Your average uninformed American has become aware of it in a concrete way.

Call it bringing a megaphone or changing the conservation - either way, it IS a bigger deal than you are giving credit for.

We can't get anything done if we can't get people to even acknowledge there's an issue. Simply by getting those issues out in a national forum, he has made it impossible for the PTB to pretend there is no issue.

Doesn't mean I buy into the unity message, but I don't hold it against Bernie if he decides that's the path he has to take. He always said he'd work within the Democratic party and he may feel he has to honor that. There is something to be said for keeping your word even when the other side lied and cheated. It wouldn't be my choice, but so be it.

Either way, I'll never vote for Hillary. But if he does stay to work within the Democratic party, when Hillary loses, they can't blame him. That's on her - so that's a small positive, I guess.

No one is saying Sanders did not have a profound effect on the larger American society as a whole.. Obviously he has. With that out of the way. It's not really on point. What I'm saying is .. I really don't want to hear the 'pep talk' blogs. I don't need to be told how much I am appreciated or how much Bernie tried... .. as if to say... 'you tried, but oh well, eat shit and die' all nicey nicey.. I need to see Sanders have the guts to actually lead the American People .. and to do so.. he needs to make a very profound decision.. one he has already told us ..he has made...(to support Hillary) and that is to step away from the corrupt Democratic party. Otherwise, he reinforces the power of the elite against the very people he convinced to support him. And why? Because of the FEAR OF FEAR ITSELF.. Because TRUMP.. and to me that's not a good enough reason to betray the American people in support of the profoundly corrupt Dem Administration.

they need to rope the progressives back into the fold for the vote in November. Once that is accomplished and Hillary is crowned, all bets are off. Look how long it took Obama to back away from every progressive notion in the Democratic Party - SECONDS.

Stealing California was a bold move, but necessary to cement the idea that Hillary had the nomination. Does anyone believe that from a dead heat Hillary pulled out a staggering victory? No we are going to war.

None of the progressive ideas will matter once Hillary starts WWIII for real. That's where we are. We are looking at Armageddon as the neocons/libs surround Russia and China and continue to provoke incidents that they then turn into propaganda against the Russians and Chinese.

Our insane leadership actually believes we can "win" a tactical nuclear war with Russia and China. If you believe our obese, unfit young people sitting in the basement playing video games are going to be able to fight a war, you have another think coming.

The idea that we have next year, next election cycle, next whatever is an illusion. These people are CRAZY. They are trying to maintain the Petro Dollar as the world currency and it isn't working. They will go to any lengths in attempt to maintain the bankers. Gadaffi had to die because he was creating a gold Dinar for trade in North Africa. His televised heinous death was a message to any world leader who thinks they can challenge US Hegemony. Hillary laughed about it.

I hate being chicken little, but we have to do everything we can to change the dynamic that is leading straight to Hell. If it takes a third-party run, then so be it. The Democratic Party is dead to the 99% of us who will suffer the consequences of a Hillary victory.

He felt he could beat her on substance, not scandal. And he does beat her on substance, and probably would have won if this Primary had been run as an unbiased race.

I don't think his point was that lying and breaking rules was fine. His point was they were there to debate on their policy positions, not derail it into Clinton scandal-mongering when we didn't have the data we needed to know exactly what she had or hadn't done.

Allowing the narrative to be about Clinton scandals - lord knows there are enough of them to fill every debate - would have given more time to her to spin lies, and less time for him to focus on the issues that matter to regular Americans.

People always forget the last half of that comment...sick of those e'mails; LET"S FOCUS ON THE ISSUES. He wasn't saying people don't care about Hillary' errors and crimes and mistakes and lies, etc--he was saying that this should be an issues driven debate. And other places he has referred to letting law enforcement take care of this issue. Even recently as regards what he'll do before convention, he said something to the effect of alot could happen in that time [between June 7 and July 27] alluding to the FBI I believe.

I think Bernie cares very much about the e-mails, the foundation [fraud?] and he knows we voters do too. The next chapter is finally here, and it is perhaps more important than the last one. Bernie Sanders has become the leader of a movement, not just a defeated presidential candidate. The campaign to change politics -- and perhaps even the Democratic Party -- continues, and it's clear Bernie is not about to slow down. Nor should we.

I'll be looking hard at Bernie-endorsed candidates in smaller races, where a bit of my money could make a difference. I'll also follow Brand New Congress. Watching where the movement goes from here, and what Bernie does to further its growth, is going to be fascinating.

In addition to those I'll be looking at the movements outside of formal politics, OWS, BLM, etc. I think that this will tell us a lot.

There could also be a movement formed that is, in effect, a rebellion against the two candidates that this cycle has presented to us. This one could be an interesting coalition of those who have very different political philosophies but who are in fundamental agreement that the political election process is little more than kabuki. THE US is currently anything but a democracy.

I'm doubting that he will actually be able to take very many 'actions' on behalf of his movement, once he's back in the Senate. They say that he will return to the Senate next week. By that, I mean other than declarations. Of course, they count for something, if they rally his supporters.

Wink

The Dem Party Establishment is already gloating today on Cable News, about helpful Bernie will be as Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, and his ability to push through FSC's (corporatist) agenda.

('corporatist' is my addition, btw)

In my heart of hearts, I believe that we should be resigned to fight on 'in Bernie's name.' I say this, only because I truly believe that the PtB would destroy him personally and politically, if he returns to the Senate as the leader of a 'leftist movement.' And we can't expect him to take that chance.

I don't trust anything the Establishment Dems say, since words are cheap.

Bottom line, I think it's time to continue Bernie's work--outside the Dem Party.

Have a good one!

Hillary is every bit as illegitimate as George W. Bush was in 2000. She can declare herself the nominee or Queen, she will remain illegitimate to me.

What happens if Bernie ends up winning CA after all the votes are counted. The poll workers totally screwed people over AGAIN with provisional ballots.

I am rip-shit at everything from how the ballots are processed, to message rigging in the media to trotting out Democrats to lie about Bernie's record. And the worst thing is, I am dismissed as a conspiracy theorist without a shred of "proof".

This is why I was surprised Bernie ran as a Dem. The club of elites would never let him win their nomination. Unlike the GOP with Trump, the Clinton's had all the tools necessary to rig the election.

As I read today's propaganda, it appears the collective has decided that Hillary Clinton and her campaign machine have 'won' this clearly corrupt and perverted primary. It seems that's all it takes.. just accept defeat and pat Bernie Sanders on the back for being a 'good sport' . well...

Now we find out what the American people are made of... and if today's news is any example... we are going to get the Government we deserve. The fix is in... the 1% WIN... YAY

And.. I can see the excuses already being made.. er.. I mean... the fond memories of what 'Bernie Sanders' did to 'change the narrative'... and all the BS about making a 'good old boy try' ... while our lives are hung out to dry in the parched desert sun and the threat of mass killing strikes deep in the heart of the ME. Clinton will show Putin whose in charge..huh? And Iran.. they better hope her buddy in Israel doesn't decide if the Iranians get to live or die... cause Hillary loves her some war...

Yes... It's a lovely day in the neighborhood... and I got mine!

And so... I consider this 'Walk Down Memory Lane' blog an insult and reading the back pedaling comments .. pathetic.

I can't feel any of it, I am just extremely disappointed and lost to see how helpless one is to prevent this "coup" to continue in slow motion. It's a pretty destructive experience, imo.

yep.. no one likes their emotions played with.. I was doing fine in denial ... I'd gotten over that thing called 'hope' and had done an excellent job of shutting off the 'care' factor... I was having trouble with the neo-liberal selfishness of gentrification in the arts.. I must admit... .everyone striving to reach the height of white privilege in the arts... so my denial wasn't perfect.. but I'd almost gotten to the point where I could move on and just give up hope, not care and 'be the change I wanted to see in the world' blah, blah, blah ..........only to hear Bernie Sanders tell me that all these years .. what I knew in my heart .. what I thought mattered in life .. was real..that there was a 'future to believe in' . so... the monster in me has awoken from the sleep of hopelessness and I've even been willing to experience a number of panic attacks to stay awake and try....

But.. Bernie told us.. if he couldn't 'WIN' he'd give into the establishment and go back to working for them .. helping them gentrify the world for the 1% ... because TRUMP.. but I didn't want to hear that.. so I ignored it.... My bad!

Bernie chose to work the insider route on the national level after 20+ years as a virtual unknown indie. He single handedly changed Vermont from a liberal Republican/moderate Dem state to democratic socialist. If you think his work does not have a future to believe in, you are welcome to come to the Green Mts and look around.

I anticipate Bernie will do what he said he would do, and work to defeat Trump. I rather doubt that will involve a kumbaya intiative with her majesty. I've never been a Dem and until this year, never voted in their primary. The party is "toast" and I too will be voting Stein for Prez and VT Prog Party down ticket.

I'm seeing a lot of threads about what to do next.

I agree with you about the "Oh Bernie contributed SO MUCH (past tense)" memes. They're just crap, or at best, they are people who have been so starved of representation for so long that they really ARE grateful, like I'd be grateful if you took my head out of a bucket and put an oxygen mask on me for a while.

But there's a great deal that indicates people intend to continue. They're not sure how, and they don't know whether they'll have Bernie as a leader post-Philadelphia or not.

You can either blow on the sparks, or piss on them, or walk away because you're too mad at the obvious injustice to deal with this right now. But that doesn't mean other people have "given up."

"Oh Bernie contributed SO MUCH (past tense)" memes. They're just crap,

They're patting Bernie on the head, telling him he was a good little boy for pointing out the obvious, but $he has claimed the win (there are votes yet to be counted, remember), so now it's time to unite behind her, put up with her smelly farts because she will do NOTHING towards policies Bernie championed. She only lied to her tens, sometimes hundreds, of people in her audiences when she plagiarized Bernie's talking points and she has fooled her adoring minions by sounding like Bernie sometimes. She took her actions straight out of KKKarl Rove's playbook, and since Bill & Dumbya and $Hillary are now bosom buddies because of the "charities" they run through the Clinton Foundation's money laundering business, she may well have had direct contact with Turdblossom, by phone if not in person.

I didn't listen to the whole speech Bernie made last night, but I don't recall seeing any excerpts where he said he conceded the race, so if/when the uncounted votes put Bernie over the top, I expect to hear massive wailing, gnashing of teeth, screams of outraged frustration from the KKKlinton KKKamp.

If there is a god, Bernie will still come out on top when ALL the votes have been counted. Otherwise, if the American populace - once AGAIN! - turns back to being members of the Milquetoast Family of Accepting Criminals for Our Leaders, then I give up on us. I'll know then that Stupid has taken over, we will continue to participate in our own extinction for the sake of political party unity, corporate greed. $Hillary will never stop the pollution of our planet's earth, air, water, or try to change our energy sources, etc.

... not anything you wrote as your opinion, commentary. I'm sorry for not writing clearly enough to make that known.

I'm frustrated, can't deal with the fact the primaries have been stolen from Bernie (altho I realize CA has not finished counting votes yet, but I don't know if those votes will count)... and as of yet no one has made a huge stink about the stolen primaries in other states as well as CA.

Moronic Media is just fine with the illegal activities of the KKKlinton KKKampaign. They love her and anticipate a lot of revenue if/when she's elected because they'll have diversionary scandals and impeachment and other illegal, immoral, unethical actions on her part (and that of her hubby) to report on while still ignoring all the important issues Bernie talked about.

If $he gets to the Oval, it will be just as disastrous as when the Bushistas were there, perhaps worse, given her warmongering stances, and then, of course, there's the money laundering via the Clinton Foundation.

It gets to me (and is not good for my health issues).

Again, my apologies.

Bernie or Bust, and NEVER $Hillary!

There is nothing anyone can say or do or threaten or coerce or cajole me with that would get me to vote for $Hillary, and she does not have a natural speaker's powers of persuasion that could let me be persuaded to vote for her (I never liked her, and that goes clear back to 1992; I knew she was a liar then, and she hasn't changed). She is from the lying, warmongering, DINO wing of the Rethuglican party, and my ethical and moral standards won't let me vote "for" that kind of idiocy. It's just that simple.

If Bernie's name is not on the ballot, and if I cannot write in his name, I will leave the prez section blank and vote for the few down-ticket Dems who have platforms closest to Bernie's. Leaving the ovals blank for any particular section is my personal voter version of "Present but not voting," a phrase I sometimes see on Roll Call votes for the House or Senate.

support the 1%, not sure where you're getting that. And he has been fighting the corrupt for years, we just never heard about it before because that does not suit the narrative. He wasn't famous before this, but he was still there, doing the same job and trying to fight the good fight.

That said, I am hoping he reneges on his "promise" to support the Democrat, but that's just me. He may not do that, and politically he would perhaps not even keep his Senate seat if he did do that.

You're right on that this game is rigged to high heaven, and he did give us all hope when most of us, me included, had decided there was none. I am still right with you on skepticism, and I don't think even Bernie can get the things he wants done in this current system. But I still hope. It isn't over yet, even if it feels that way right now. I am going to cling to that thought for a while, we'll see how long I last.
