I can't even commiserate on the spouse side of things, but I can attest to how fast funds disappear.
Particularly when your in a state 457(b) plan that is basically just mutual funds. Then couple that with life's other unexpected expenses?
Let's just say people like you and me are the epitome of those that slipped through the cracks.
I am still to this day maybe less than one significant expense or unfortuante circumstance away from losing everything I have and living in a cardboard box, just like a whole bunch of other Americans.
I think that is why the Sanders movement is taking hold so strongly, there are just too many used to have's and never had's then there has ever been in modern America.

Ah, I'm being pessimistic. The Anointed One came around on this I think, at least temporarily.

Well, we’re waiting here in Allentown
For the Pennsylvania we never found
For the promises our teachers gave
If we worked hard
If we behaved
So the graduations hang on the wall
But they never really helped us at all
No, they never taught us what was real
Iron and coke
And chromium steel
And we’re waiting here in Allentown
But they’ve taken all the coal from the ground
And the union people crawled away
Every child had a pretty good shot
To get at least as far as their old man got
But something happened on the way to that place
They threw an American flag in our face
In general, through closed, open primaries/caucuses over 40% of votes have been for Sanders or anti-Clinton? If 40% of the formerly acceptable Dems took a walk, would the Party notice?

If I got one at 21, long gone in many moves. I still have my original Social Security card, needed for a job at 16, had to get a signoff from the school district. I carried that in my wallet for 40 years. I guess that means I keep track of wallets. Now in a fire safe at home, with the signature of a 16 year-old, nothing like my current artistic scribble. Both my children got assigned numbers @ birth of latter, in hospital. Their SSNs are 2 digits apart. Slow transcriber. I have not seen their cards, ever. Just have the numbers stored on paper, in the fire safe.

in every Italian mob movie ever made either before or after a killing there is a scene where they are eating?
It's the same thing with Funerals, every funeral (I'm a Diego) that I have ever been to has been a damn Buffet.
There is something about death, tragedy and food that has some kind of cultural or species behavior pattern. They are oddly intertwined, but nowhere more pronounced that I can think of than Italian culture.

93% of the vote counted, and Hillary leading by 13 points, the AP has finally called the race and declared Hillary the winner in California.
What I find so extremely unusual in this very late announcement is that it in no way compares with prior announcements of Hillary being declared the winner in many other states. For the past several hours. I've watched the results come in. I watched early counties flip from Hillary to Bernie. But as the night wore on, the only counties left with outstanding votes were large counties, mostly in the south, where Hillary had enormous leads. Sometimes more than 20 points. My question? Why did they wait so long this time to call the race for Clinton? It doesn't make sense.
I've watched other races where Hillary was declared the winner an hour after polls closed while leading by 10 points when the actual results turned out to far closer. There really hasn't been any chance that Bernie could ever make up for Hillary's lead for a at least 2 or 3 hours now. Why didn't they call this long ago?
I'm going full CT now, because it's acceptable here to point out that some things are difficult to believe without having extraordinary evidence to backup your point. Did the early announcement of Hillary's "victory" affect turnout today? No question! Did other shenanigans like provisional ballots for independents make a difference? Very likely! Was this election manipulated internally? I wouldn't be surprised. Did the media want to downplay the manipulation by pretending that the race was was close to mask the manipulation of the results and give the appearance that this was a close contest until everyone got tired and went to sleep? I'll let you answer that question!

to move, I'm going to bed in a few minutes. Good morning, OLinda! The Anointed One has 2184 pledged delegates. There are about 70 outstanding. She does not have enough to win without supers. It's a contested convention. Sure wish we had brought it closer, though!
Bern should hire private investigators to determine what election fraud might have occurred in every race he lost. And wherever any is found, sue their rumps off to claim his delegates. Not that I believe in CT or anything.
See y'all after I get some (more) sleep.

from NYT and I see I have a different number on Hillary's total than what you have. It is still not the magic number whatever it is.
I enjoyed our discussions tonight!
I agree about investigating the voting. Bernie is a fighter that is for sure. Maybe he will. You would think some organization would step in. Someone mentioned somewhere here tonight that we need to ask the U.N to monitor our elections. Good idea. Too late for this one though.
2383 - 1852 = 531 more supers needed to win. looks grim. I don't know why I'm looking at this. Good to know though, I suppose.
Not only is it disgusting that there even are superdelegates, it is extra ridiculous how many there are. Also from The Guardian, Hillary has 571, Bernie 48, so 619 Supers!! Good grief. I don't think that all of them have announced their preference, so I believe there are even more. I'd really like to have a list of all of their names.
531 supers needed to win posted above should be a combination of supers and regular delegates that equal 531 are needed. There are 20 regulars still available from WA. DC. and some probably still being tallied from Tuesday's voting. When we have the final count from voting, then we'll know how many supers are needed. A lot, however.
multiple frozen fruity drinks overnight - must be all those vitamins in the fruit!
We must have just stressed so much we burned the alcohol right off. The company was great, though.
Clearly, Hill will be the nom unless they indict her before the convention. Dammit. But she has not proven that she is generally popular, quite the opposite.
So: Take a chance on splitting the vote or vote against Trump? I still plan on waiting to see what happens at the convention, but I lean toward taking a chance.

We have been doing the same things since the 90's, settled for incrementalism and all it has done is slowly drag the party further and further to the right to the point where we now have two RW parties and no left to speak of.
So yeah, at this point I don't see any reason to not take a chance, because one thing is certain, Clinton will be a disaster and set back the cause for at least another decade.
Which brings to mind that old adage about insanity.
I am done engaging in insane behavior out of fear.
And for some reason that I can't fully articulate, making the decision to no longer vote against, only for, candidates has been oddly freeing now that I know that it will be the course I will chart for the rest of my voting days.
Maybe it's just because for the first time I will be able to vote and not feel the need to take a shower afterwards?

So we can agree we have no snooty cheese tastes?
All good, I am a white (non-colored) cheddar girl myself and a gorg and bleu adorer. Gorg is cheaper, feta is good, too.

Funny how thoughts turn to food.
I was reicing my tea, and eyeballing a new container of salted cashews. And then I looked at the price. $6.99 for 8 oz. The price of a Whopper, not meal. Maybe later, no to whopper. I have been thinking chinese takeout for several days. A lunch plate can fix me for a day.

I love my Chinese place. Every time I call them they yell
"We Deliver 45 Minute!" into the phone, and every time they are here in like 15-20 tops.
I swore one time I was hanging up the phone when they rang the damn doorbell...
More and more I suspect that all Chinese delivery guys are secret time travelers with their own 4 wheeled version of the Tardis.

Too far out in the boonies
for deliveries of anything, except groceries, which I have yet to try. But only 5-6 miles, one way to get stuff carry out. Even from restaurants. Good pizza farther, but flatbread or naan pizza I can do at home. With all the basic food groups.

I have gotten spoiled since moving, I used to drive 45 mins to
get to the next closest town, which didn't even have a Wal-mart it was so small, to buy groceries.
You get used to it, but I sure don't miss it.

Maybe not so funny. It seems to me that any time we ingest
too much sugar - including the sugar in alcohol - our bodies crave protein and/or fat to balance it out, which in turn will slow down the absorption of any further sugar.

Speaking of food associations, Did you ever notice how
in every Italian mob movie ever made either before or after a killing there is a scene where they are eating?
It's the same thing with Funerals, every funeral (I'm a Diego) that I have ever been to has been a damn Buffet.
There is something about death, tragedy and food that has some kind of cultural or species behavior pattern. They are oddly intertwined, but nowhere more pronounced that I can think of than Italian culture.

Actually, I've never watched an Italian mob movie!
I feel so uncultured. But funerals have always fed people. Life goes on? Have to eat to keep up your strength?

OMG, I have a mission for you.
You need to go and make a lasagna, grab a bottle of Chianti and watch Goodfella's, the first two Godfathers, and then maybe Casino.
You can probably skip the third in the GodFather trilogy, it was pretty much garbage.
I expect a full report when you are done.

How about I just do the first two?
I mean, what's the point? Cheer for the bad guys? That's what the DNC wants me to do (heh).

Ok, here is another song to liven things up while we wait..
It's a progressive modern classic, I love the video even more than the music from a cinematography standpoint. (And it's got Michael Moore being arrested in it as an added bonus.)

I almost don't even want to write this but...

Sorry, thought I was posting news.
I see now that reflections posted the winner call above.
Just saw Trump on tv. He said he "welcomes Bernie's supporters with open arms." I doubt I will vote for him, but I liked hearing him say that.
more on Trump quote.
Saw a longer clip of Trump's comment just now.
He said:
"To all those Bernie supporters who have been left out in the cold due to a rigged system, we welcome you with open arms."
Heh. I may be persuadable.
Fell asleep sitting up! Now that it's light and I'm awake enough
to move, I'm going to bed in a few minutes.
See y'all after I get some (more) sleep.

elenacarlena, I just posted delegate totals
from NYT and I see I have a different number on Hillary's total than what you have.
I went by Google. They also say Bern has 1804.
https://www.google.com/#q=democratic+primary+results&eob=m.09c7w0/D/6/sh...
I don't swear by them, though, so if you have reason to think your numbers are more accurate, they probably are.
Yes, outside monitoring would be a terrific outcome! I'm so afraid we're going to get the vote the hackers decide we should get in November.
OK, seriously, I'm getting up and to bed. I enjoyed our discussions too. We ended up with a nice little group monitoring through the night!

My numbers are just taken from NYT.
I have no idea. I'll see what The Guardian says later. You're in bed right now anyway.
elenacarlena, your numbers are more likely correct.
The Guardian has your numbers. 2184 and 1804. Bad NYT!
The Guardian also tallied:
Bernie
1804 pledged
+ 48 super
__________
1852 Total
2383 - 1852 = 531 more supers needed to win. looks grim. I don't know why I'm looking at this. Good to know though, I suppose.
Not only is it disgusting that there even are superdelegates, it is extra ridiculous how many there are. Also from The Guardian, Hillary has 571, Bernie 48, so 619 Supers!! Good grief. I don't think that all of them have announced their preference, so I believe there are even more. I'd really like to have a list of all of their names.
Another small correction.
Final numbers update
The Guardian updated numbers now that last night's votes are all in.
Want to post here to try to have the thread accurate. Something to refer back to perhaps. I'll just put it here where no one is reading anymore.
Bernie
1827 pledged
48 supers
___________
1875 Total
2383 - 1875 = 508 more delegates, supers and regular, needed to win. Oh well, sounds better than 531.
Hillary
2,199 pledged
574 supers
____________
2773 Total
Above 2383 goal when current supers are included.
Still, neither has the required number without supers.
NYT also updated and has the same numbers now as The Guardian.
Heh, I too fell asleep in front of the keyboard listening
to the TYT coverage and staggered off to bed when the sun hit my face (Thank FSM for blackout curtains) and just finally got up and showered.
No hangover, I guess 3 bottles of wine is not excessive then.
Thanks everyone for coming by and contributing, it was a blast outcome be damned

I got up about 4 PM here. No hangover here either despite
multiple frozen fruity drinks overnight - must be all those vitamins in the fruit!
Please check out Pet Vet Help, consider joining us to help pets, and follow me @ElenaCarlena on Twitter! Thank you.
I'm with you on taking a chance...
Maybe it's just because for the first time I will be able to vote and not feel the need to take a shower afterwards?

delegates gained May 7 [edited; maybe incorrect numbers]
[Edit: Please see comments a bit above. NYT may have incorrect numbers. Really not sure at this point.]
According to the results chart at NYT,
Hillary gained 114 delegates from the voting in all states Tuesday.
(1926 total)
Bernie gained 94 " "
(1615 total)
Subject to change a tiny bit as votes are still coming in.
So, not that big of a change as far as won delegates.
