Why War?

Open Thread Image.jpg

This week I heard an array of reasons for Israel's Gaza genocide. Pepe, in the first clip below, thinks it was engineered by Israel, and Biden was forewarned when Bibi was in DC in late September. He sees the IMEC project versus the BRI as one key to the conflict. If that is true, it answers Paul Craig Robert's question in the second clip, how did we get all the military equipment and forces to the region so quickly. Both Ray and Scott think the opposite, that Israel was caught by surprise. Jimmy thinks it may be about oil. Bin Laden's letter to America explains his motivation for 9/11...

Jihad against the aggressors is a form of great worship in our religion, and killing us means a high status with our Lord. Thanks to God, we have been waging jihad for 30 years, against the Russians and then against you. Not a single one of our men has committed suicide, whereas every 30 days 30 of your men commit suicide. Continue the war if you will. Justice is the strongest army, and security is the best way of life, but it slipped out of your grasp the day you made the Jews victorious in occupying our land and killing our brothers in Palestine. The path to security is for you to lift your oppression from us.

The status quo is doomed

The world economy is doomed. I'm looking from the American perspective because America is the leader in the coming collapse. We should have seen it coming in the 60s - Japan was rebuilding it's economy by starting with cheap consumer goods and taking the profits and using them to build production of higher quality goods, again and again. This worked until China did the same.

Album of the Week 11-18-23

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got Albert Collins live and an album from Chicago bluesman John Littlejohn. After that, in the blues-rock category there are albums from George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Johnny Winter and Dave Edmunds. Then there's an EP from The Pretty Things from their psychedelic period and a somewhat recent double album to finish us off from Richard Thompson.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”
Pablo Picasso

Sometimes life just gets a little weird.
A story on Oregonian newspaper website caught my eye. In Bend, a large rock is taking out cars and gaining popularity online

Really - the small lot where my grandmother raised a family in a 900 sq ft house, grew a garden, built a small shop and developed a career as an artist is becoming a tourist attraction. The buildings and large willow tree have long been flattened by a bulldozer so the final piece of land could be added to the development.

Big Obvious Boulder, known affectionately by its fans as “Bob,” can be found at the entrance to a shopping plaza on Northeast Third Street and Franklin Avenue. If you need directions, you can check out its Google page.

Friday Night Photos Potpourri Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

We had a little rain on Wednesday and there's more in the forecast for this weekend. The long range forecast is predicting sunny and 70s for Thanksgiving day next week which will be nice.
It's good to see the price of gas has been coming down the last few weeks. When I filled up the other day regular was $5.09 a gallon. A drop of about .30¢ since the last time I filled up a few weeks ago. Now if only the price of food would come down.
Wishing everybody a Happy Thanksgiving next Thursday.

A little of this and that from here and there while out and about.

Open Thread - 11-17-23 - Make a Friend

When I was two, I was put on the Baptist preacher's podium, sang "Do Lord" for the congregation. I remember it like it was yesterday. People were so sweet to me and my family afterwards.

Now, neither I nor my family was particularly religious. This was a song my fanatic g'ma taught me. I do not remember the Amen aspect. I remember the friendship and goodwill, remember my Dad picking me up, taking me through the crowd, being delighted and so proud of me. Dad. My best friend forever.

Doing This Yet Again? I Guess We Have To

After the start of the current Gaza war Dennis Kucinich wrote a really good essay about why we should not do war, should not support war (even if it's Israel in their latest pogrom) and so on. The essay is called, 'Thou shalt NOT Kill' and is pretty darn good. It got me to thinking, 'Maybe, maybe it's not entirely useless to protest this damned war and the Ukrainian war and all the others...' Anyway, the essay is worth reading. It does make me wonder, is the obvious disagreement between Kucinich's and RFK, Jr's ideas about the Israel Gaza war what made Kucinich leave the campaign?
