The dangers of family rejection

Augustus Klein and Sarit Golub are professors at the City University of New York (CUNY), Klein in the Department of Social Welfare at the Graduate Center and Golub in the Department of Psychology at Hunter.

They have recent had a paper published Family Rejection as a Predictor of Suicide Attempts and Substance Misuse Among Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Adults.

Just sent Bernie $50 dollars, and pledging to give more but that depends on you.

I was lazy.

Me culpa.

So, if you haven't given lately, what's your excuse?

Just do it (apologies to all those who truly cannot give, but are contributing in other ways such as phone banking and canvassing).

Ps. I will give more if I can later in the month. Lot of medical expenses since January and haven't met my deductible yet. Still, you only live once.

Well, hi there...

Immigrant Punk here. Like many, I'm a refugee from dkos, which I signed up for in 2006 after many months of lurking. I got in trouble there for suggesting to Hillary people that it will be hard to get votes from people you've alienated. Go figure. Anyway, people I respect from dkos have come here, and so I've come here in turn. Bernie is very moderate in my view, but he's got my support from a progressive point of view. Who says I can't play nice?

FEC Individual Contributions April Update

I just got around to downloading the latest FEC data and updating my workbook. The data set includes all named contributions. Note that this is not all contributions, just those large enough to require reporting. The campaigns provide other summaries of total monies raised, but I like to look at this data because I can slice it down to the individual donors and their state of residence (actually zip code, which can be a bit creepy.)

Shaun King: Why I'm Leaving the Democratic Party

Sometimes I wonder if Shaun King reads what I wrote here or on dkos, because I'll see him posting my exact thoughts on twitter. Other times he posts exactly what I'm thinking before I have had a chance to post it. I didn't follow him at TOP, but do see him on twitter.

Give it a read.

Resilience: Options For Home Solar Water Heating

Resilience1.jpg
The process of converting a house to renewable energy begins with:
1. Upgrading its passive solar features, then,
2. Tightening the envelope through adding insulation, upgrading windows, and so forth.
3. The next stage is adding solar hot water heating. Heating water accounts for a quarter to a third of energy usage in a home and using solar water heating can substantially cut the energy bill.
4. Then PV.
5. And then whatever is still needed.
Let's look at three options for adding solar water heating to our homes.

Do we leave?

I've seen plenty of people saying they'll be leaving the Donkey Party behind after this November. It's something I've been considering myself, though honestly I never really identified as a Dem even though I've been registered and voting as one since 2008. But I've seen others point out that us folk of the more progressive persuasion leaving the party is exactly what the Clintons and their establishment minions are trying to achieve.
