Johnny Young

Album of the Week 5-16-26

Afternoon folks!

There's a mess of great stuff for you all this week starting with a live album from one of Muddy Waters' former guitarists, Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson - well worth a listen. Following that is a mid-70's studio album from Clarence Gatemouth Brown and some older recordings from Chicago blues harmonica player Billy Boy Arnold. After that is an album from Chicago blues mandolin player Johnny Young. We finish off the week in the diversity department with a hard rock album from a Welsh band, Budgie.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 1-6-24

Afternoon folks!

This week, we've got some great Chicago blues from a compilation album that features mandolinist Johnny Young, guitarist Johnny Shines and harmonica player Big Walter Horton. Following that there's some late 60's blues from Aretha Franklin. Moving on to the blues-rock category, there's a John Mayall double album on which he's joined by Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor and Harvey Mandel. Then there's The Pretty Things self-titled first 1965 album and a Lee Michaels album. After that is a Japanese bootleg of a Bob Marley concert in London (originally broadcast on the BBC) and we finish up with a studio album from Dr. John.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 8-12-23

Afternoon folks!

I've dragged some more good stuff out of the basement and cleaned it up - starting off with a great Chicago blues album by mandolin and guitar player Johnny Young backed up by Otis Spann and James Cotton (neither of whom need an introduction here i'm guessing). After that, there's a compilation of Magic Sam recordings. Then it's on to some blues rock with albums from The Elvin Bishop Group, The J. Geils Band and Foghat.

Following that there's an album by a later line up of the Flying Burrito Bros. and some New Orleans rock from The Radiators. After that there's a compilation of jazz-blues from Tiny Bradshaw.

We finish up with a jazz album by Bennie Wallace featuring (who'da thunk it?) Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dr. John.

Enjoy!
