Things I Learned from the Dem Debate

Elizabeth Warren is like Aunt Eller with an empty picnic basket.

I looked deep into Pete Buttigieg's eyes, but could not see his soul. I did hear him tell me that he wants to start a movement for moderate Republicans. So there's that.

Joe Biden's solution to the problem of violence against women is to "keep punching at it and punching at it and punching at it". Joe also does a mean Knute Rockne wax figure impression.

DNC Releases December 19 Debate Criteria, Musings on Tulsi Leaving Congress

The DNC announced the criteria for their December debate: 200,000 unique donors and 4% or more in 4 qualified polls from the four early states or nationally. That's the general gist at least.

Right now only 7 candidates have met those numbers. Tulsi, of course, is still trying to meet the criteria for the November debates.

No Opening Statements Allowed at Tuesday, Oct. 15 Debate

Interesting note that there will be no opening statements at Tuesday's debate:

Tulsi Says No Opening Statements

Since there will be 12 candidates on stage, this is sure to cut back on speaking time for candidates like Tulsi or Yang. They will be much more at the whim of the moderators to have any time to make a point.

Tulsi Storms the South, Focuses on Debates and September

Tulsi Polls 3% in Texas

The most recent statewide poll in Texas, from University of Texas/Texas Tribune, shows Tulsi polling at 3%. This was a poll of 1,200 people, which indicates that about 36 of those people polled for her. Not too shabby! She was well ahead of Booker, Gillibrand, Klobuchar, and Inslee who polled at 1%, and Yang and Williamson were at 0% in the poll--and she was only a bit behind Harris, who polled at 5%.

Potential Tulsi Breakthrough

As has been noted in another essay, Tulsi will appear in the first night of Democratic debates with a fairly bland array of debate opponents.

The only relative heavyweight in the first debate night will be Elizabeth Warren. Speculation from another essay on this site says that this is an effort to shine a light on a sheepdog candidate--which might very well be true.
