Star Terk and Class Struggle, a New Open Thread Series: The Romulans and Remans

I'd like to try something...new. Star Trek is something I grew up with. It wasn't like many shows on TV in that it explored what was possible. And given my recent forays into subjects such as class struggle and revolution, I thought it would be interesting to delve into the class struggles of the various peoples and factions introduced throughout each TV series and in other media, including tabletop and video games.

I'm taking a break from Outside the Asylum this week, but it'll be back next week with an essay on what currently stops us from creating a new politics. It's good to figure out what's in your way before you drive through it:

Open Thread on Race and Propaganda

Something Old, Something New will be back next week. I want to use my Open Thread this week to discuss an uncomfortable development in the ways we talk about race.

Disability Caucus Open Thread 12/31/16: Nothing 'Brings Me Joy'

Maybe my wife is correct, maybe not. My very low key personality and neurotic depression (Dysthymia) make people think I don't feel joy in anything. Give me a break. Generally speaking I don't go nuts when I see something new like, say, the new Star Trek series coming out this year. Doesn't mean I'm unexcited for the possibilities I suppose, but I'll just have to wait and see if the fact they're keeping it cbs.com exclusive will shoot it dead before it can even get off the ground.
