Winter is officially over - chickens have started laying. Fresh egg omelets are back on the menu. Crocuses are blooming. Tis the season for dreaming of bountiful harvests from the seeds being planted and warmer days.
Reality check. Uncertainty is in the air. Prices up, armed conflict in another part of the world, fuel disruptions, drought warnings. Is this a repeat of the 1970's which ended with 12 years of a Republican in the presidency. Spontaneous events or a push with propaganda?

Complicated week - war, supply chains disruptions, propaganda overload might need some low cost comfort food popularized before the last World War before this is over.

It appears one of my favorite authors on contemporary and historical relationships between nations is no longer publishing new articles at Asia Times. Authors change homes and the website appears to be changing its editorial tone. Pepe Escobar is publishing new work is at The Cradle in addition to other sites.
My surprise was when performing a quick check on Wikipedia bio for information on how long he had published at Asia Times (answer 2003) and found this notice at the top of the page -

Using money to modify behavior is a common theme of modern society. Parents and guardians use an allowance teach responsibility to children to reinforce positive behavior or withholding when necessary as punishment for unacceptable behavior. It doesn't always stop in childhood, it becomes more complicated when used by governments towards their citizens and other nations. 2022 is starting off brisk with new levels of financial punishments.

It has been along week and my mind has been basically blank coming up with a topic for today's thread.

Living in a country experiencing continual phases of war requiring troops for occupation to active combat phase does not leave much space for a visible peace movement. Contemporary public protests often seem to have significant representation of agent provocateurs. So how does a movement progress by individual actions rippling forward.
My protection from military recruiters was an elementary music teacher who taught me to play the guitar. By high school having fashionable long fingernails was more important than continuing with a string instrument. However, those first two songs I learned kept playing in my head whenever the career counselor arranged mandatory meetings to listen to the marketing pitch explaining the easiest path to higher education for the daughter of a mill worker and waitress.

Keeping our eyes on the bouncing ball is easier if we are aware of patterns. Relooking at similar historical events far enough in the past new documents have been released and secrecy pacts have expired. A review of Hidden History: the Secret Origins of the First World War by Gerry Docherty & Jim Macgregor’s Book shows Germany being tricked into war. Some of the same techniques are probably in play today with Russia and China.

As tensions for potential conflict increase by our military and diplomatic blustering people react. Fortunately this time the reaction was to wait and see, not simply to strike out.
