The recipe.

How can America and Europe support modern day Nazis in Ukraine? The history of national alliances and personal friendships is complicated. Partially hidden by our national habit of focusing on the future and not wanting to review the mistakes (horrors) of the past.

Propaganda on potential likability of Nazi soldiers and fear of Russians started mid 60's and continued for years with reruns.

'The Flat' is a fascinating detective story National Catholic Reporter Oct 12, 2012

"The Flat," an award-winning documentary, follows the story of Israeli documentary filmmaker Arnon Goldfinger, whose 98-year-old grandmother died in Tel Aviv a few years ago, sparking a search to understand who the woman really was.
...
Yet two artifacts surface that capture Goldfinger's attention. One is a Nazi newspaper from 1934, Der Angriff ("The Attack," the worst of Nazi newspapers). The featured story is about an SS officer, Leopold von Mildenstein, who traveled with his wife and a Jewish couple to Palestine. The Jewish couple was Goldfinger's grandparents, Kurt and Gerta Tuchler. It is astonishing news to Goldfinger, who knew nothing of his grandparents' past.

The second artifact to capture Goldfinger's attention is a magazine in the flat that leads Goldfinger to seek out journalists who interviewed his grandmother in the 1980s. They wrote about the German Zionist Federation, to which his grandparents belonged. The writers still have the tiny travel photos that appeared in the magazine, which they give to Goldfinger. In the photos, the two couples look like trendy German tourists of the day.
...
The crux of this documentary is everything Goldfinger never knew about his family and everything his mother, a daughter of Zionist German Jews, and Edda, the daughter of an SS officer, refused to know or talk about.

There is so much more to this completely fascinating, simply told detective story. I want to read a book about it. In doing more research, I learned von Mildenstein was raised a Catholic, and I was deeply saddened, once again, at the part that Catholics played in the Holocaust.

The film could have been called "Cleaning Closets" because Goldfinger's grandparents and the von Mildensteins packed away a history neither of the daughters now wants to confront. It is better left alone to some, but not to Goldfinger, the one grandson to whom the past, the story, now belongs. He has found that "he could not relinquish the smallest piece of paper" from the flat.

More Americans Supported Hitler Than You May Think. Here's Why One Expert Thinks That History Isn't Better Known Time Oct 4, 2018

So why was that past overlooked for so long?

In part, Hart theorizes, it’s because the American story of World War II is such a powerful national narrative. The United States, that narrative says, helped save the world. Rocked by Pearl Harbor, Americans stepped up to turn the tide for the Allies and thus solidified their nation’s place as a global superpower. That narrative doesn’t have much room for the relatively small, but significant, number of Americans who were rooting for the other side.

“It’s always been uncomfortable in this country to talk about isolationism, though the ideas are still out there,” he says, “It’s part of the American mythology. We want to remember ourselves as always having been on the right side in this war.”

It was also possible for those who had participated in Nazi-sympathetic groups to later cloak their beliefs in the Cold War’s anti-communist push — a dynamic that had in fact driven some of them to fascism in the first place, as it seemed “tougher on communism than democracy is,” as Hart puts it. (One survey he cites found that in 1938, more Americans thought that communism was worse than fascism than vice versa.) Such people could truthfully insist that they’d always been anti-communist without revealing that they’d been fascists, and their fellow Americans were still so worried about communism that they might not press the matter.

“We still don’t totally know the scope of this,” he adds, noting that some important documents are still classified.

________

The CIA’s Worst-Kept Secret: Newly Declassified Files Confirm United States Collaboration with Nazis Institute for Policy Studies May 1, 2001

Pried loose by Congress, which passed the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act three years ago, a long-hidden trove of once-classified CIA documents confirms one of the worst-kept secrets of the cold war–the CIA’s use of an extensive Nazi spy network to wage a clandestine campaign against the Soviet Union.

The CIA reports show that U.S. officials knew they were subsidizing numerous Third Reich veterans who had committed horrible crimes against humanity, but these atrocities were overlooked as the anti-Communist crusade acquired its own momentum. For Nazis who would otherwise have been charged with war crimes, signing on with American intelligence enabled them to avoid a prison term.
...
These are “not just dry historical documents,” insists former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman, a member of the panel examining the CIA files. As far as Holtzman is concerned, the CIA papers raise critical questions about American foreign policy and the origins of the cold war.

The decision to recruit Nazi operatives had a negative impact on U.S.-Soviet relations and set the stage for Washington’s tolerance of human rights abuses and other criminal acts in the name of anti-Communism. With that fateful sub-rosa embrace, the die was cast for a litany of antidemocratic CIA interventions around the world.

An Unexpected Partnership: Nazi Germany and the Republic of China War History Online Mar 31, 2016

A quick first glance at these photos would have most military history enthusiasts fooled. You would be forgiven to assume that these are German-trained Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) personnel. But that could not be further from the truth – they are in fact Nazi-trained Chinese soldiers of the National Revolutionary Army (NRA), destined to fight Japanese invaders. The Wehrmacht officer is Chiang Wei-Kuo, adopted son of Chinese Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Wei-Kuo commanded a German Panzer during Anschluss, earned a commission as a Wehrmacht lieutenant in anticipation of Fall Weiss, before being recalled back to China.

We all know that China was the ‘first to fight’ Imperial Japan, first in 1931, when Manchuria was annexed to form Japan’s Manchukuo puppet, only to be followed by full-scale invasion in 1937. Facing a far superior enemy both technologically and organisationally, backed by an industrialized war economy, China naturally sought foreign military assistance from any willing partners. Ironically, one of these partners was Nazi Germany, Japan’s soon-to-be ally.

Nazi support was motivated by two reasons: the economic need for China’s raw materials, and the anti-communism of Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang (KMT). Most surprisingly, Hitler’s personal view that ‘I have never regarded the Chinese or the Japanese as being inferior to ourselves’ also excluded the Chinese from Nazi racial antagonism in foreign relations
....
Through German-educated KMT officials like Chu Chia-Hua, soldiers of fortune like Max Bauer were recruited to China as individuals during the Weimar years, avoiding treaty prohibition of Germany’s foreign military investments. Mostly officers from WWI sharing the anti-communist sentiments of the right-wing KMT faction led by Chiang Kai-shek (Bauer was personally involved in the Kapp Putsch), they were more than happy to advise the KMT.
...
In fact, Chiang’s personal ties to Germany was so widespread that, even after the 1937 outbreak of Sino-Japanese war, a significant Chinese lobby remained in Berlin, calling for a resumption of full Nazi-China ties despite the Sino-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact.

When they were finally recalled, von Falkenhausen and his fellow German advisors promised not to share any information on Chinese war plans with their new Japanese allies. When the 1941 Tripartite Pact formalized the Germany-Italy-Japan Axis, German assistance to China completely terminated, but the military foundations that the partnership had already laid contributed to the eventual Chinese victory.

Von Falkenhausen, for his part, kept his word and continued writing to Chiang, exchanging gifts until long after the war ended.

Some parts of The Human Condition have returned to archive dot org, until they are gone:

I downloaded all four parts last summer, and by some miracle watched the whole thing from beginning to end on ye olde Labor Day. Wow said I.

The Human Condition Trilogy Trailer
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS8YraEXC9c width:500]

Masaki Kobayashi’s mammoth humanist drama is one of the most staggering achievements of Japanese cinema. Originally filmed and released in three parts, the nine-and-a-half-hour The Human Condition (Ningen no joken), adapted from Junpei Gomikawa’s six-volume novel, tells of the journey of the well-intentioned yet naive Kaji (handsome Japanese superstar Tatsuya Nakadai) from labor camp supervisor to Imperial Army soldier to Soviet POW. Constantly trying to rise above a corrupt system, Kaji time and again finds his morals an impediment rather than an advantage. A raw indictment of its nation’s wartime mentality as well as a personal existential tragedy, Kobayashi’s riveting, gorgeously filmed epic is novelistic cinema at its best.

I was never going to waste another second of my life watching yet another war film, and then nine and a half hours of subtitles later... talk about glued to my screen! lol Remember the human fly trap segments on Letterman where the guy would trampoline jump up against a wall of velcro? Yeah those were my eyes, it took me about sixteen hours to watch the entire 'existential tragedy'. Not sure I could do it again, but I saved a copy just in case. It is absolutely fantastic historical fiction, in my opinion.

It amazes me peoples lack of questioning...like how did Germany go from needing wheelbarrows of money to buy bread to build a world class military and equip it? Answer Henry Ford and other US industrialists invested and sold stuff to both sides. An under told connection is that of Prescott Bush and his support and profiteering off Nazi Germany.

Excellent rundown of how we goaded Russia into military action in Ukraine. He also calls out the hypocrisy of people who are supporting Ukrainian Nazis whilst ignorant of what they have been doing to their own people.

There are so many people who are trying to educate Americans about what they own government has been doing to push Russia into doing what it has.

I really enjoyed this article on the situation.

https://metallicman.com/mm-thoughts-about-war-in-the-ukraine/

I wish that the people who are cheering for Ukraine to kick Russia’s ass would be instead telling our government to try to find a way to stop the killing and make peace before it’s too late. Dumbasses who are also cheering the sanctions on Russia don’t realize how badly they are going to bite them in their buttocks too. Food and gas are just 2 of the many things that are going up. And good old Manchion thinks that yes it’s worth it for us to pay higher gas prices and blow up the inflation he’s been bitching about! Crash the global economy? Sure why not he’s rich. Poor people? Puey he’s never cared about them.

Forming the Dog Internet: Prototyping a Dog-to-Human Video Call Device

Abstract
Over the past decade, many systems have been developed for humans to remotely connect to their pets at home. Yet little attention has been paid to how animals can control such systems and what the implications are of animals using internet systems. This paper explores the creation of a video call device to allow a dog to remotely call their human, giving the animal control and agency over technology in their home. After building and prototyping a novel interaction method over several weeks and iterations, we test our system with a dog and a human. Analysing our experience and data, we reflect on power relations, how to quantify an animal's user experience and what interactive internet systems look like with animal users. This paper builds upon Human-Computer Interaction methods for unconventional users, uncovering key questions that advance the creation of animal-to-human interfaces and animal internet devices.

UKRAINIAN NATIONALIST BATTALIONS PREPARE MASS MURDER PROVOCATIONS IN MARIUPOL

On March 2nd, the People’s Militia of the DPR reported that nationalist forces are preparing provocations in the city of Mariupol.

The commander of a separate special detachment Azov of the 12th operational brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine is preparing a mass provocation with the death of civilians in the city of Mariupol, the DPR PM claimed.

According to the report, dozens of civilians were captured on the territory of the Metallurgical Combine Azovstal, which is located at the mouth of the Kalmius River. People were reportedly taken in mined workshops and office premises. The heavy military equipment was deployed in the yard of the enterprise.

Something happened.

Ukrainian Nationalist Blew Up Multi-Storey Building in Mariupol. 200 Civilians Trapped In Basement

On March 5, several explosions took place in Mariupol. Despite the ceasefire regime proclaimed by the Russian Defense Ministry since 9 a.m. local time, so that civilians could leave the cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha in accordance with the agreement reached during the second round of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.

The explosions took place at around midday local time. Columns of black smoke were seen in in the city center, on the left bank of the Kalmius River.

Up to 200 people were trapped under the rubble, most of them women and children.

According to the updated data, the crime was committed not by the fighters of the Azov nationalist battalion, but by volunteers of the so-called ‘territorial defense’ detachments who arrived to Mariupol from the western regions of the country. they have recently carried out a massive mining of entrances to the civilian houses.

I just saw the kos kids cheering on that group. Soon they will be cheering on ISIS and other terrorists that we are bringing into Poland so they can bog down Russia’s military. The hell with the safety of the people in Ukraine. We didn’t care when they were killing Syrian civilians either. Just hoping that hell is real. In 2018, the U.S. House of Representatives also passed a provision blocking any training of Azov members by American forces, citing its neo-Nazi connections.

The House had previously passed amendments banning support of Azov between 2014 and 2017, but due to pressure from The Pentagon, the amendments were quietly lifted.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Saturday met at the Ukraine-Poland border, where they discussed the West’s support of Ukraine amid Russia's ongoing invasion of the country.

“The entire world stands with Ukraine,” Blinken said. “Just as I am standing here in Ukraine with my friend.”

Blinken said that support for Ukraine will not only continue but that it “will increase,” including “security support, humanitarian support, economic support.”

He added that pressure on Russia will increase “until this war, this war of choice, is brought to an end.”

“I hope the people of Ukraine will be able to see this as a clear manifestation that we have friends who literally stayed — stand by us,” Kuleba said in response.

Kuleba said that Ukraine was thankful for the support the country has already received from allies, including the U.S.

“Well, we are satisfied with the already arranged supplies of anti-tank weapons and ammunition — this is one of the most badly needed — and we destroy a lot of Russian tanks and armored vehicles using weapons that came from our friends, including the United States,” he said.

Blinken could have derailed the war but he’s serving his master and it’s not the president. Most of our government has been captured by Israel through AIPAC. And we know that Israel has been arming the Nazis with their military rifle. The world once fought and beat those monsters and now it’s cheering them on. Of course we just happened to bring the worst of the worst here after the war and it’s looking like that hasn’t been good for us. All the world seems like a fcking hypocritical stage. I’m tired of watching this play. Twitter creeps get all excited when Ukraine knocks out Russian military and I can only think that it’s sad that someone died. And for what? In a hundred years none of this is going to matter. Unless we start using nukes. That people will remember.
