Slipping into Coma: Art and Cultural Heritage Held Hostage by the 1%

A friend sent me this article from the New York Times yesterday, One of the World’s Greatest Art Collections Hides Behind This Fence: The superrich have stashed millions of works in tax-free storage. So what does that mean for the art? It inspired me to come out of hiatus and write something for a blog.

Astronomy: Street Prophets Sunday All Day Brunch (Art)

Welcome to Sunday Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a while and let us know what is new with you. Yesterday was Astronomy Day. I have been interested in outer space all my life. I remember as a child Dad would take to the San Francisco Planetarium every time there was a new show. We watched all the moon landings. It was a special bond Dad and I had looking at the stars. As an artist I started out my graphic art career doing space pictures.

Art and the Moon: Street Prophets Sunday All Day Brunch

Welcome to Sunday Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I love space and always thought that by this time we would have a permanent colony on the moon. I certainly would have volunteered to go. Since we don't I get my moon fix by art and looking up when it isn't cloudy where I live. Here is some moon art.

The Tree Of Consciousness

Good morning, my dear friends of c99, from a rainy morning in southern Ontario. Great weather for ducks. My primary interest is spirituality and I really should get to it sometimes, eh :=) I would like to show you a drawing by my daughter the genius illustrator (this is called Dad-bragging.) I think mostly in images and I asked her to draw the tree of consciousness image that lives in me. More below.

OT The women

Shaharazade had a fine OT going...but she didn't hit "save" and then accidentally navigated away from this page, losing everything and now she's cooking dinner so I (Shahryar) am going to take up the theme in my own way, not exactly wrecking it but giving it a slightly different emphasis, just because, as a male, I can't help it. I can't write it from the same perspective.

The Pump don't work...

...cause the vandals stole the handle.

A group of graffiti artists (BlakCollectiv), led by Kalkidan Assefa, created an impressive, and legal, mural during Ottawa's Pride Week honoring transgender women of color who had been murdered during the past year.

On Wednesday night an unknown person or group who were offended by the memorial spray painted over much of the mural and added these sentiments:
