Album of the Week

Album of the Week - 2-4-23

Afternoon folks!

This week I've got a couple of good harmonica blues albums from James Cotton and a compilation of (Little) George ("Harmonica") Smith's early recordings. Then there's a mess of blues rock from Roy Buchanan, Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles, Hot Tuna and Bonnie Bramlett. Following that, there's another Richard & Linda Thompson album and finally there's some serious prog rock from Lenny White (from Return To Forever, for those of you following along in the hymnals) - Al DiMeola makes an appearance on the album.

Take care and have a great weekend everybody!

Afternoon folks!

Another week, another fine mess of blues. This week there's some old country-blues banjo style from the 20's. Dock Boggs was an early country blues player and you'll find lyrics and patterns in his music that show up in later blues compositions. There's also some more modern country blues from Doc Watson.

There's some serious Chicago blues from Eddie Taylor. There's a bunch of blues rock from Roy Buchanan, Free and Evan Johns and the H-Bombs.

There are also albums from Emmylou Harris, It's A Beautiful Day and Renaissance for a little variety in your listening.

I will be adding tunes to the Dock Boggs, Doc Watson and Eddie Taylor playlists. the former sometime next week the latter two over the weekend.

Enjoy!

Afternoon folks!

I uploaded a bunch of cool stuff this week, and I added to the collection of Jeff Beck stuff that has been accumulating as I dig out and clean up albums.

There's a Brownie & Sonny album, some Hot Tuna, a few cuts of Professor Longhair from a compilation, a live Flying Burrito Bros. album (later in their career without Gram Parsons), one of The Band's later albums and an album by Rory Gallagher.

Then there's two Jeff Beck Group albums that I just uploaded this week when I got the news of his passing, an album with Beck, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, a live album with Jeff Beck and the Jan Hammer Group and an old Yardbirds album that I uploaded a while ago.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Album of the Week - 1-7-23

Afternoon folks!

Well, there's some blues for you this week. There's a double album compilation of Memphis Slim followed by a T-Bone Walker album and the first half (roughly) of a B.B. King compilation of earlier hits. I'll post the other half later in the same playlist, maybe next week sometime. Then we've got slide guitarist David Lindley and rounding out the selection there's former Monkee Michael Nesmith's second album with the First National Band.

Enjoy!

Afternoon folks!

Another week, another batch of albums for you guys. There's a compilation of Nappy Brown's earlier days doing r&b tunes, piano player Mose Allison has a live album and another piano player, Marcia Ball follows with a studio album. We've got a late 60's Butterfield Blues Band album and a Ten Years After album from later in their career - kind of a departure from their earlier albums. There's two albums by Richard Thompson and an album by prog-rockers Be Bop Deluxe (which the gods of copyright seem to have chosen to block a goodly chunk of).

Enjoy!

Afternoon folks!

Well, here we go again. New Orleans piano legend Professor Longhair starts us off with a live album, Percy Sledge follows up with a great soul album and then it's back to the piano again with Jay McShann, a staple of the Kansas City blues. There's a Fleetwood Mac compilation from back when they were a blues band and an album by another British group, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express and sticking with the British thing, there's a great Richard Thompson album. After that, there's a classic album by Gram Parsons and some Commander Cody finishes things up.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 12-3-22

Afternoon folks!

There's a pile of blues for you guys this week. Chicago guitarist Son Seals has a live album, harmonica player Big Walter Horton has a studio album, there's an Otis Redding album in glorious original mono and New Orleans singer Johnny Adams weighs in with an album of Percy Mayfield tunes. Guitarist David Lindley has an album of cool blues-rock and reggae inflected tunes, Captain Beefheart's album delivers the weirdness and we finish up with Buffalo Springfield's (Neil Young, Steven Stills and Richie Furay) debut album (also in glorious mono).

I will be adding additional cuts to the Big Walter Horton album and Otis Redding's album on Saturday night sometime.

Have a great weekend and enjoy!

Album of the Week - 11-26-22

Afternoon folks!

This week (surprise) there's more great stuff to listen to. There's a live Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown album, a collection of Leroy Carr recordings and a Neville Brothers live album. I found a long-lost album with Charlie Musselwhite, Harvey Mandel and Barry Goldberg lurking in my basement, cleaned it up and it sounds pretty decent now, perhaps a little of its period, but cool nonetheless. There's a collection of Gram Parsons and Flying Burrito Brothers recordings and an EP of Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels a Rosanne Cash album and another moldy oldie album from the basement by the Five Man Electrical Band - I think it's their debut album. Finally, there's a part of a Dr. Feelgood live album that I will upload the remaining tunes from on Sunday sometime.

Enjoy the splendiferous bounty of my basement! Smile

Afternoon folks!

Surprise! More great blues this week with Champion Jack Dupree (and Mickey Baker on guitar) as well as a nice of compilation of older blues tunes, many by obscure artists worth a listen. There's a solo acoustic album from John Hammond, The Butterfield Blues Band's East-West album and a more or less straight up rock album by Dr. Feelgood. There's also an interesting album from Geoff and Maria Muldaur, a Steeleye Span album and a David Bromberg album to boot.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 10-29-22

Afternoon folks!

Well, here comes another mess of good music. There's a greatest hits album from Louis Jordan and a compilation of great stuff from the ABC/Bluesway label. There's a classic blues-rock album from John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers that features Peter Green and John McVie before they formed Fleetwood Mac (the good, early version), there's a live (recorded in '72) album from Savoy Brown and an early 70's album from Paul Butterfield. The diversity this week is provided by Goose Creek Symphony, Ry Cooder and Steeleye Span.

Enjoy!
