Afternoon folks!

We've got a bunch of great stuff from New Orleans this week, starting off with Champion Jack Dupree (with Mickey Baker on guitar and Hal Singer on sax) and followed up by a great compilation of stuff, some from names you probably know and other stuff not, all of which is worth a listen. After that we've got an album from Aretha Franklin - some of it is a little schmaltzy, but the rest of it is solid r&b.

After that, it's on to George Thorogood, Blue Cheer, an EP from Dr. Feelgood and J.J. Cale's best album. We finish off with an album from Dutch prog-rockers Focus (with guitarist Jan Akkerman, who's about the same calibre as Jeff Beck).

This week we've got some great blues for you from Percy Mayfield and a compilation of Texas women blues singers with diverse styles. After that in the blues rock category, there's an album from Texas' Doug Sahm and the Sir Douglas Quintet, an (imo) overlooked excellent album featuring Robin Trower and Jack Bruce, a late 80's album from Savoy Brown and a kind of peculiar album from Ten Years After. We finish up with some prog-rock from Gentle Giant.

This week we've got a live (double) early 70's album from James Cotton, followed by a live album from Hound Dog Taylor - some serious high-energy Chicago blues for you guys. After that, it's The Kinks, with a compilation of singles from their early classic blues rock period. Then there's some New Orleans r&b from Cookie & The Cupcakes and an album from Little Feat. We finish off in the diversity department with a prog-rock band from Japan called The Sadistic Mika Band.

This week we've got blues albums from Junior Parker and B.B. King, Parker's album along with some cool blues has some covers of Beatles tunes that are quite interesting, especially the cover of "Taxman". B.B.'s album is mostly early versions of some of his classic tunes. After that there's some blues rock albums from Robin Trower and John Mayall (with Mick Taylor), Little Feat's first album and an album from J.J. Cale. Finishing off is an unofficial album of Bob Marley and The Wailers recorded live in 1975.

There hasn't been a lot of uploading going on since I went to the beach this week, but I have managed to get a little bit together for you. First, there's an early 70's album from harmonica player Wild Child Butler and an album from old-school blues guitarist Arbee Stidham. You heard some of Arbee's early guitar work last week on some of the cuts of the 1940's Sonny Terry album (which also featured Woodie Guthrie). After that local (to me) artists The Nighthawks contribute an album followed by Roomful of Blues. We finish off (if the code works, my other youtube account was acting funny) with an early 70's album from Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

There's some great ear-treats this week. Starting off, there's an album from Albert King and an album with 60's era Chicago blues recordings of James Cotton, Otis Rush and Homesick James. From there, you can boogie with Canned Heat, rock with the MC5 and then mellow out a bit with Bonnie Raitt. Coming into the home stretch, there's a Jorma Kaukonen album of country bluesish tunes and finishing up in the diversity department, there's an album by German prog-rockers Triumvirat.

Anybody out there enjoy blues harmonica playing? If so, it's a good weekend, there's a nice french compilation double-disc set of Little Walter and an album of crusty 1940's recordings of Sonny Terry - some of them with Woodie Guthrie. After that we've got an album of r&b from The Chambers Brothers and a change of pace with Malo. If you (like most folks) have never heard of Malo, if you enjoy Santana, you'll probably dig Malo. After that, we've got some blues rock albums from Robin Trower and ZZ Top's second album. We finish up this week with a fairly obscure album from Traffic.

Starting off, we've got an album from BB King, followed an early Albert Collins album, followed by an album by Chicago blues harmonica player Carey Bell and finishing off the blues selections with a compilation album from Jimmy Johnson, Eddie Shaw and Left Hand Frank. After that there's a Wailers (reggae) album and an album from Texas musician Doug Sahm along with some excellent sidemen including Dr. John, David Bromberg and Flaco Jimenez. Then there's a rock album from a largely-overlooked all-girl rock band, Fanny. We finish off in the diversity department with a late 60's country album from Carl Perkins.

I hope that you all are having a great weekend. However it turned out, there's sure to be some blues here to make it better. Starting out, there's an album from Muddy Waters with some of his lesser-known early 70's tunes on it, followed by an excellent B.B. King album. After that, it's blues rock with John Hammond and the Nighthawks and Little Feat. After that there's an album for all you guitar pickers out there, Merle Travis and Joe Maphis pick away sometimes at improbable speeds with clean articulation that should make most guitar-shredders jaws drop. We finish off with a 1966 album from Small Faces.
