Afternoon folks!

There's a bunch of great stuff this week. Starting off, we've got two women blues belters from different generations of the blues, Koko Taylor and Big Maybelle. After that we've got a 1968 album from a fellow known as the father of the British blues, Alexis Korner followed by a mid-70's album from harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite. Then there's a great album from guitarist Wilko Johnson (from Dr. Feelgood) and Roger Daltrey (from the Who) and Creedence Clearwater Revival's first album. After that, there's a late career album from Lonnie Mack and we finish up with a rock album from guitarist Chris Spedding.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 6-1-24

Afternoon folks!

It's another small haul this week since my uploading schedule got interrupted by the holiday weekend bluegrass festival. Starting out we've got a mid-70's Albert King album with some really excellent cuts, and a Chambers Brothers album with an incredible version of "The Weight." After that there's a double live album of Procol Harum in 1969, the sound quality is less than optimal but the music quality is great, then there's a cool album of R. Crumb with a bunch of pretty talented players doing a variety of cool old tunes. In the diversity category there's British folk ensemble Pentangle and an album by Spirit.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

It's a small haul this week, but there's some great stuff. There's an Albert King compilation of some of his best recordings and a Wilson Pickett compilation of his hits. Following that there's a kind of underrated Roomful of Blues album which I really like and finishing us off is a mid 70's rock album, the first from Crack The Sky.

You all have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

We've got some great music this week starting off with Muddy Waters' classic Woodstock album and an album by New Orleans piano player Cousin Joe. After that we've got serious blues-rock with albums from Duke Tumatoe & The Power Trio, Downchild, Roy Buchanan (I think it's his last one) and Creedence Clearwater Revival's Bayou Country. After that we've got DC localish band Root Boy Slim's first album and we finish off with a straight 80's rock album from the Swimming Pool Q's.

Album of the Week - 5-4-24

Afternoon folks!

I hope that you are all having a great weekend! Here's another helping of albums from my collection. Starting off there's a live Albert King album from the late 60's, followed by a compilation of singles from a couple of great New Orleans record labels featuring folks like Professor Longhair, Johnny Adams, Irma Thomas and Tommy Ridgely. After that we've got a bunch of rock for you from Little Feat, a fairly obscure psychedlic band called Fever Tree and The Pretty Things. Finishing up, there is an album from acoustic guitarist Norman Blake with mandolin player Red Rector and last but not least Jim Kweskin and The Jug Band finish us off. I will be adding some tracks to the Kweskin album later on Saturday night.

Enjoy!

Some more great stuff this week! In the blues department, there's an album split between Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf featuring tunes from their London Sessions (with Brit blues-rock musicians backing them) and an album from Piano Red (the original Dr. Feelgood?) from Atlanta. After that there's a live double album of zydeco/cajun/blues from Clifton Chenier. In the blues-rock department we've got an album this week from Jeremy Spencer after he left (early) Fleetwood Mac and joined a religious cult, kind of an odd album with some good tunes. After that, there's a live album from country-rockers Poco and we finish off in the diversity department with Tom Waits and his Swordfishtrombones album.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Afternoon folks!

This week, we start off with two of the greatest blues harmonica players, a compilation of early recordings from Sonny Boy Williamson and and album from James Cotton. Following that there's a 70's album from Albert King. Entering the blues-rock segment, Lonnie Mack follows that with (I think) his first album from 1963, and there are albums from Johnny Winter and Dr. Feelgood.
