The Evening Blues - 8-15-23
Submitted by joe shikspack on Tue, 08/15/2023 - 3:00pmGeneral Ripper's Rationale
Submitted by fire with fire on Tue, 08/15/2023 - 1:06pmThe key moment in the plot of Dr.Strangelove comes as the lunatic Wing Commander named Jack Ripper was trying to start World War III. The civilian authority of President Merkin Muffley is trying to thwart his renegade order to the airplanes under his command to attack the Soviet Union with nuclear bombs. One of three characters played by Peter Sellers, an RAF officer named Mandrake, tries to talk some sense into him, in hopes of getting him to recall the planes before Armageddon.
Code-words for our time: the reality principle for me but not for thee
Submitted by Cassiodorus on Mon, 08/14/2023 - 11:16pmPolitical blather in this era tends to conform to a certain set of code-words, which are repurposed from their original meanings to fit the complaint one reads in George Orwell's Politics and the English Language: "In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defence of the indefensible."

It's fairly clear there are mass migrations happening now. Not just animals and fish, but increasingly, people too.

Complete Corporate Capture

Politicians, state and federal agencies, government regulators and inspectors, have all been captured by a multitude of corporate interests...Wall Street, big pharma, the MIC, oil companies, big food, commercial media and so on. The game is rigged and these various corporations hold all the cards. The government needs to re-boot with a new operating system, but the vested interest won't allow that to happen. We the people are mere pawns in the rigged game used for labor and as consumers...grease in the gears of corporate greed.

Album of the Week 8-12-23
Submitted by joe shikspack on Sat, 08/12/2023 - 3:00pmAfternoon folks!
I've dragged some more good stuff out of the basement and cleaned it up - starting off with a great Chicago blues album by mandolin and guitar player Johnny Young backed up by Otis Spann and James Cotton (neither of whom need an introduction here i'm guessing). After that, there's a compilation of Magic Sam recordings. Then it's on to some blues rock with albums from The Elvin Bishop Group, The J. Geils Band and Foghat.
Following that there's an album by a later line up of the Flying Burrito Bros. and some New Orleans rock from The Radiators. After that there's a compilation of jazz-blues from Tiny Bradshaw.
We finish up with a jazz album by Bennie Wallace featuring (who'da thunk it?) Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dr. John.
Enjoy!
