The Business of War

Open Thread Image.jpg

Last week Michael and Richard described the US as a pentagon economy in their 45 minute conversation with Nima entitled "Why are China and Russia the US No. 1 Enemy?". However, what inspired this week's topic was Nima's conversation with Dmitry Orlov with whom I'm not familiar. Dmitry Orlov was born in Leningrad, USSR, into an academic family, and emigrated to the US in the mid-1970s. He holds degrees in Computer Engineering and Linguistics, and has worked in a variety of fields, including high-energy physics, Internet commerce, network security and advertising. I found his comments and observations on target: The US continues wars until they are not profitable, for example we left Afghanistan because Fentanyl replaced heroin, The MIC isn't about winning wars, it is about maximizing profits, and many more.

Album of the Week 1-27-24

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got some Koko Taylor and some Bo Diddley in the blues category. In the blues-rock category we've got a bunch of stuff - an album from Robin Trower, an EP from Canned Heat in the mid-80's, an album from The Pirates, a compilation album from Faces and the part of a mid-period Fleetwood Mac album that the lords of copyright will allow to be heard. To finish off, in the diversity department there's a psychedelic album from Strawberry Alarm Clock.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

The violence will not stop soon enough to prevent additional lives to be lost and a culture damaged. The International Criminal Court ruling South Africa has Standing to file the case is hopeful. It is a big step towards a multipolar world. Now we will see if the United Nations is still a viable organization to expand peace around the world.

Friday Night Photos Not Quite Woodstock Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

I wasn't sure what photos I was going to post for tonights FNP until I read Sima's OT yesterday morning and decided to keep the music theme going. These are from a small two day music festival I attended about five years ago. The festival is held the last weekend in July every year at Greenhorn Mountain Park near Kernville, Ca. All the musicians and bands are from the Ridgecrest area.

Biden news: Why no one should vote for Joe Biden

Every once in awhile we can see someone poke her or his head into a Facebook group of which I'm a member, to offer up the Joe Biden talking points. At some point they are made to go away by the group administrator. But making them go away from a little Facebook group isn't really a solution to anything, so this diary has become necessary.

Has everyone gotten their fill of rain? It is wreaking havoc in the vicinity. Evacuations, closed roads, closed lake, and a bit of history is now underwater. Conroe, Texas, never has the money to repair bridges, and now, they will never repair an iconic bridge, which you can read about below. They do have well-paid police, as cowardly as they were way back when.
