Grammar: Figuratively v. Literally

We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But I still believe in America and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.- Hillary Clinton

(W)e now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed — because if you succeed, then the country succeeds.- Barack Obama

Of course Steve Bannon is not literally Joseph Goebbels. Joseph Goebbels was born in 1897 and had a club foot. He had a PhD in literature and was a failed writer (the thinly disguised auto-biography, in 3 parts no less, Michael was so bad he could only get it published by the Nazi Party publishing house Eher-Verlag and at that it was so poorly received that Part II is lost). He tried to make it as a journalist (the last refuge of desperation for a writer) and couldn't even do that so he ended up with menial jobs as a floor trader at the stock exchange and a bank clerk before finding a gig as a propagandist (not at disrespected profession at the time, we would call it Public Relations or Party Communications, Goebbels made it notorious) for the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Back in the Fight

The "Democrats" are making it very clear. They are not going to change, they are not going to listen to us, they're going to continue to obey their corporate masters. They want us back on their triangulation chain gang, the chain gang of the poor, the chain gang of working families, the chain gang of inequality, the chain gang of the ignored and the exiled and the betrayed.

Facebook Didn't Lose the Election for Hillary. Fake News by MSM Did

Too tired to write, but short video because I'm pretty pissed:
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kt2zfFFMDk]

Stop. Just stop. People have been posting CT crap on Facebook for years, but now the MSM outlets, like the Diane Rehm show on NPR today, are suddenly concerned that these Facebook posts lost the election for Hillary Clinton.

NoDAPL Protest, Tucson, November 15, 2016

More than a thousand people gathered in downtown Tucson at twilight to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline, the largest outpouring in Arizona of support for Standing Rock (so far). And we didn't forget the fights for Oak Flat and Rio Yaqui, which are ongoing.

Yes, we stand with indigenous people!

2009: The year the Democratic Party died (Ryan Cooper in The Week)

I read Ryan Cooper's article 2009: The year the Democratic Party died and I was awash in a melancholy nostalgia, not the happy kind of nostalgia of first puppies, high school proms, big promotion, etc. but the kind of reminiscence of the sort prompted by your doctor asking "when did you first notice this?"When did you get the first awful twinge that all may not be as you hoped?

In a bold and stunning move, Senate Dems tap Schumer as their leader.

OK, far from bold. And far, far away from stunning. As is done in a fraternal organization where the leadership moves "up the chairs", Wall Street's darling is now the Minority Leader in the Senate. Once you become 2nd Vice President at the Elks Lodge, you simply wait your turn to be Grand Poobah (kinda like Her Heinous, btw). Like the generals who insist on fighting the last war.

A brief comment about the Green Party.

I am sure that all the criticisms of the greens, expressed by Cassiodorus and others here are accurate.

However, those of us who care about things like the health of the natural world, which does sustain all of us, and of which we are all a part, clean air, water and soil, sustainable farming and the right to garden right now have no where else to go.
