A Golden Opportunity Thrown Away

Now I have had a chance to think about this last election cycle and putting to one side the personalities for the time being.

Premise

Republican Party Partisans
Decided that their establishment did not give two figs about them and went for something that has been coming for a long time now, an authoritarian demagogue.

It's semi-official. Trump to name a second racist to a top U.S. post.

It's breaking now that President-elect Trump (you think it's hard to type that, how about President Trump?) will nominate Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III as the United States of America's next Attorney General. The office that was held by giants like Robert F. Kennedy and Elliot Richardson (who resigned when ordered to fire Archibald Cox, Watergate special prosecutor) is now in the hands of Jeff Sessions.

India Threatens to End "No First Strike" when it Comes to Use of Nukes

I know we are all caught up in the aftermath of the Trumpocalypse, and who is to blame for the non-election of the first female president, but I urge you take a moment and step away from that essentially useless and futile debate, because very serious and disturbing news came out of India last week.

Weaponized Identity Politics and Hubris gave us Donald, and The Elites in both major parties are just fine with the outcome of the election.

Make no mistake about it: the political elites, whatever their party label, have got exactly what they wanted this election.

Grammar: Figuratively v. Literally

We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought. But I still believe in America and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.- Hillary Clinton

(W)e now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed — because if you succeed, then the country succeeds.- Barack Obama

Of course Steve Bannon is not literally Joseph Goebbels. Joseph Goebbels was born in 1897 and had a club foot. He had a PhD in literature and was a failed writer (the thinly disguised auto-biography, in 3 parts no less, Michael was so bad he could only get it published by the Nazi Party publishing house Eher-Verlag and at that it was so poorly received that Part II is lost). He tried to make it as a journalist (the last refuge of desperation for a writer) and couldn't even do that so he ended up with menial jobs as a floor trader at the stock exchange and a bank clerk before finding a gig as a propagandist (not at disrespected profession at the time, we would call it Public Relations or Party Communications, Goebbels made it notorious) for the National Socialist German Workers' Party.
