America Is Not 'The Leader Of The Free World'

Finally can we bury that old chestnut?

Perhaps in the darkest days of World War II, when so much was lost, when hope stood all alone, when many Americans stood up ready to die, perhaps then, in that moment, it meant something real and tangible. Maybe in a few brief instances since was an ideal and a nation actually one and the same.

America first has always been the reality, every action calculated for our own benefit.

-Every War we declared
-Every regime change we sponsored
-Every dictator we empowered.
-Every weapons sale
-Every 'Free' Trade Deal
-Every climate change denial.

All of them.

It's America First, always has been, always will be.

America First = American Exceptionalism.

So please can everyone, the MSM included, stop with

The leader of the free world bullshit.

Just a thought

@CB if they were speaking about the sanctions against Iraq. A half million dead Iraqi children sure was a great visual.

I will never understand the people who say that Hillary has spent her career being the champion of women and children.
The ones who she helped move further into poverty when she supported welfare reform. The children who saw their fathers get longer prison sentences when she supported the crime bill.
The women and children who were killed in the wars she supported, or the ones who became refugees are probably saying "thank gawd for Hillary. Where would we be without her?"

I have a graphic from when people were helping her up the stairs. At the top are gallows that are waiting for her.
Pure evil. Hey, if there isn't enough violence, she wants to create it. I hope her grandkids see her for what she is.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg Hillary's grandchildren will see her exactly as Chelsie sees her - a means to fulfill all that money can buy (including a way to pay Chelsie's husband out of a failed hedge fund Ponzi scheme)at any price - once a Clinton always a Clinton. They will adore her. They'll never hear ANY of this diatribe here about "grandma".

@CB
Back when England and France were constantly getting into wars ( especially that little goof called the Hundred Years' War ) it was problematic that various nobles had titles and lands in both countries -- particularly given that one of the obligations of the feudal lord was to extract from the population of his entitlements the resources (including the actual persons, both knights and infantry) required to fight the wars.

The US came late to that affair. Stalin was by no means part of the "free world", but he definitely decided the outcome of the war in Europe. Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kursk, Kharkov, etc... no battle in the west even approached the scale of those conflicts.

The US came along in time to take the credit, just like they did in WW1.

@dervish @dervish A Hitler v Stalin contest would have resulted in very little freedom, it was a toss up which one was worse.

@LaFeminista to romanticize WWII as some sort of zenith for freedom.

It was about wealth as much as any other war.

Greed knows no boundaries, respects no people, and respects no laws.

The word 'freedom' is simply bandied about to manipulate people.

(oops, my cynicism is really showing here - I need to watch an Obama speech to get cured!)

@dervish We used to think that would be a good thing. Or, at least some people did. I tried to tell them that it depended on what was going to replace the nation-state, but they were too busy doing this:

Not that I'm against doing that, in general, but not in an unthinking way.
