Friday Night Photos - OT
Hi all! I don't see anything here yet, so maybe everybody is busy... Hope all are doing well! I'll toss a couple up here to get things started and please do let it rip!
Mrs.Dysto and I did a few mile walk Sunday at the local state park. A highlight for me was one of the 'hummingbird hawkmoth' group of Sphinx Moths. Genus Aellopos, species probably clavipes. They are diurnal moths, though tending toward crepuscular.
They use front legs to steady themselves when nectaring.
The tail gets quite frayed, and looks so feather-like people will swear they saw a bird that was less than 2" long because the tail was feathers. They are almost 2", with a wingspan of almost 3".
The flower is the non-native invasive pest Musk Thistle from Europe. Wish the pics would have been on a native flower.
What have y'all been seein'?
I'll be in and out...

Hi there, dystopian
There is something quite gentle and satisfying in your images of the meeting of universal and native.
I was confused a couple days ago when I saw a familiar looking bird, but without its tail. S/he kept landing right in front of my hand on the ground. Shortly after that a friend stopped by and saw it. He cleared up the mystery by stating that it was a fernbird whose tail was missing due to a misadventure with a rat of some sort. But s/he was still able to flit and fly.
Apologies in advance for anything in these images that cause discomfort.
One looks like the possibility of life, and the other like the end of it, to me. I find it a little weird and discomforting myself.
The ‘life’ one is what a Choko/Chayote looks like sliced in half. The ‘other’ looks like a casket to me, but is the result of late-day warming sun shining in through the window.
Thank you dystopian.
beautiful photos Janis!
Thanks! Be well.

Hi magiamma
I've missed your presence.
Is that a monterey pine or something else?
That's a wonderful image

Busy following yeses. Love life w/o constraints. Let the current paradigm go. We need none of it.

@dystopian
We need to embrace the vision we had in the 60s, 70s, now. Break free. Be love. Save what we might. We are strong together. We were there then and now, here we must remember our power. Have little choice. Remember the joy we found when we broke through the mores. Shattered constraints. This is who we are. Exponential is happening.
