There is something quite gentle and satisfying in your images of the meeting of universal and native.

I was confused a couple days ago when I saw a familiar looking bird, but without its tail. S/he kept landing right in front of my hand on the ground. Shortly after that a friend stopped by and saw it. He cleared up the mystery by stating that it was a fernbird whose tail was missing due to a misadventure with a rat of some sort. But s/he was still able to flit and fly.

Apologies in advance for anything in these images that cause discomfort.

One looks like the possibility of life, and the other like the end of it, to me. I find it a little weird and discomforting myself.

The ‘life’ one is what a Choko/Chayote looks like sliced in half. The ‘other’ looks like a casket to me, but is the result of late-day warming sun shining in through the window.
