Taboos and Lies

I've been thinking about the things we don't talk about (in the USA). We can talk about many things here. There are no rules forbidding it. But even here, some of these subjects are hot potatoes. And if there is an official story, parts of it are likely to be defended. It is as if we live lies, which must not be challenged.

Japan invested their Social Security in the stock market. How did that turn out?

Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund, the world's biggest pension fund, began moving hundreds of billions of dollars from conservative and safe government bonds to riskier stocks in 2014.
The market celebrated.

Canova's district was gerrymandered for Schultz!

That is a district that was gerrymandered for Schultz. Bernie never did well there, either. I also think South Carolina was a big waste of time. I didn't get my hopes up over Canova. Progressives have done best with districts where the majority are working class. Neither of those places are, so the likelihood that he would do well was low. It is shocking he did as well as he did. There are other districts in Florida that are more promising, including the N. Florida redneck parts.

One Puppet Master Revealed

I've read and seen a fair amount of commentary on George Soros, but I must have missed the news that some 20,000 of his Open Society Foundation emails were hacked. He has a handle on the puppet strings and can make 'em dance. Here's what called it to my attention (from Ed Schultz on RT)

Wonder why Soros leaked emails aren't reported? (4 min)

Virginia schoolboard to SCOTUS: If we aren't allowed to discriminate against transgender students, then we won't be able to discriminate against them

Gloucester County School Board filed its petition with the Supreme Court to hear its appeal of the Fourth Circuit ruling in favor of Gavin Grimm (G.G. in court documents) on Monday.

Gloucester argues that it should not have to accommodate transgender students, but much of the petition focuses on an important question about when courts should defer to an agency’s interpretation of its own regulation. The Court’s three most conservative members recently expressed interest in increasing the power of the judiciary at the expense of federal agencies, and it is possible that the Court could take up this issue if they can secure a fourth vote.

Leaked Memo Told Dems: ‘Don’t Offer Support’ For Black Lives Matter Policy Positions

The memo lists several suggestions for how Democratic congressional candidates should handle an encounter with a Black Lives Matter activist.

To Anacreon In Heaven

As you know I think Throwball an exceptionally stupid sport played by brain and steroid damaged people who without their not as remunerative as you might think contracts would find gainful employment as muggers and Mob enforcers. The fans are not much better though marginally more civilized than the typical denizens of the parking lots and infields of Turn Left Bumper Cars.

So I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers Quarterback, refused to stand for the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. … There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.

As The Intercept's Jon Schwarz points out, what's strange is that African-American players stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” at all.

Again the Democratic Party Rejects progressives. Chooses DWS.

Well, the primary election has completed here in Florida last night, and as suspected, every progressive candidate in the state that was challenging the Corpocratic Party incumbents were soundly defeated.

This makes my #DemExit now completely justified (as if it wasn't before).
