Welcome to Saturday's Potluck -

So my part of the country made the international news again. Not bad for an area labeled “the middle of nowhere,” by former Gov. Neil Goldschmidt during his 1986 bid for the governorship.

Except the news is not good. Violence has been in the air this year, one can feel the undercurrents. March started with a drive by shooting, a few people drowning in the Deschutes River in various circumstances, add a few small fires and a gunman at a local fair, fortunately his attempts at firing the stolen gun was unsuccessful. The Bend shooter was more proficient with his firearm.

Three Dead in Shooting at Shopping Center in Oregon, Police Say Sputnik News Aug 29, 2022

If you take the time to read the shooting links a change can be seen in citizen reactions. Passively waiting for First Responders to rescue potential victims from harm is not what is happening. Individuals are taking action to assist others to safety and others are engaging activity with the shooters. This is dangerous and can result in injury or death, but so can simply being in the presence of an active shooter.

Initial reporting is often raw data, shocked responses by witnesses, victims and reporters. Then the spin sets in, the controlled narratives, nitpicking the past lives of individual involved and finding someone to interviews who will say "I have never experienced this before." Then then is the long void of Government agencies investigation, suppressing further information to the public domain and the disappearance of on-line accounts with writings by crime participants. After reading multiple articles and watching several videos it seems most have one or two detail simply wrong. Sometimes probably due to timing of collecting the information, copying someone else's misinformation and some media outlets have a narrative about our society they want to perpetuate.

Two victims identified in shooting at Bend shopping center; one tried to disarm gunman Oregon Public Broadcasting Aug 29, 2022

Over a 100 bullets were shot beginning at the Apartment complex the shooter lived, various stores he walked by passing through the shopping complex and entering the Safeway store where he killed two people and died. Most articles indicate he had a self inflicted and a few have indicated otherwise. No official coroners report released yet.

I wish I could say this was unusual, but Central Oregon has a long history of violent crimes and individuals. Ironically I had a cousin shot and killed within a mile of the shooting before I was born when the land was just sagebrush and juniper trees.

No answers, no suggestions, but somehow we need to be able to engage individuals into human society and inhibit the desire to damage others.

Surprised to read Untied States may be a monarchy, not a Republic or Democracy..

Philippine-born pretenders pursue QAnon global ‘monarchy’ Asia Times Aug 31, 2022
Both the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Canada’ and her choice for ‘King of the US’ are said to be Filipino immigrants

Following up a report that the self-crowned “Queen of Canada” is expanding her QAnon-inspired movement into the United States, Asia Times has noticed that Romana Didulo’s newly anointed “King of the US” claims to be – like Didula – a Philippines-born immigrant.

“I am a naturalized US citizen from Maharlika,” “His Majesty” King David J Carlson is quoted as saying in an introduction on the group’s Telegram social media page. The self-description is quoted on a Reddit page devoted to watching advocates of the “sovereign citizen” movement – under whose principles Didulo has aroused her Canadian “subjects” to stop paying taxes and utility bills.
...
In her new article, Sarteschi details some of the moves to expand the Didula empire abroad:

“King Carlson” claims to be Commander-in-chief” of the “United States Armed Forces Civilian Command.” He claims he was awarded this position after a failed coup attempt “by the Clinton cartel” to overthrow the election of Donald Trump. The military then stepped in and made sure that Donald Trump actually took office. The military then allegedly showed its gratitude by making him king of America and commander-in-chief. He offers no evidence to support his contention.

If the Carlsons and Didulo have their way, they would install a “benevolent monarchy” under natural law or God’s law. Didulo’s 79 royal decrees would become law. As “civilian white hats” (a QAnon reference to freedom fighters), the people would become “sovereign free beings,” guided by “sovereign principles.”

Unfortunate to hear of the senseless violence in the Oregon region. Disheartening. Here are some quotes to form a perspective ..

“Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent” -- Isaac Asimov

“Violence is fear of others’ ideas and little faith in our own” -- Antonio ”Forges” Fraguas

“All violence is the result of people tricking themselves into believing that their pain derives from other people and that, consequently, those people deserve to be punished.”
-- Marshall Rosenberg

“Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat for it is momentary”. -- Ghandi

I can not help but to conclude the violence perpetrated by the US on the world has distilled
into the social fabric of the domestic population. With the assistance of Hollywood, MSM, and
the alphabet soup of intelligence agencies. Reigning in the international destructive policies may
eventually dampen the domestic reactions?

Anyway, nature has thrown a switch on the first of September. We have broken the summer strain
of heat and drought. It is wonderful to have fall like weather again.

Enjoy the long weekend and thanks for the main course!

self-proclaimed, just like the current nuts. His name was Joshua Abraham Norton, and he "reigned" in San Francisco as "Emperor Norton I". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Norton

By most accounts, except for his monomania about being an "Emperor", he was actually fairly sane and smart. Among his more visionary (but, as it turned out, quite realistic) ideas was a suspension bridge between San Francisco and Oakland - which was eventually built in the 1930s but not named for him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco%E2%80%93Oakland_Bay_Bridge There have been occasional proposals to remedy that, all of which have so far been ignored.

Ukraine Tries To Prevent IAEA Inspection Of The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
September 01, 2022

Over night the Ukrainian military, from positions in Vyshetarasovka, Nikopol and Marganets, again shelled the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on the south side of the Kakhovka Dnieper reservoir.

This was fallowed by an early morning attempt by Ukrainian forces to land a sabotage group near the village north east of the ZNPP. Some seven boats, two self-motorized barges and some 60 soldiers were involved in the suicidal mission.

The paramilitary Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) which protects the plant immediately detected the insertion and attacked it. The Russian army send Ka-52 attack helicopters to help destroy the Ukrainian force. The two barges were sunk.

As the little town where the troops landed is outside of power plant there is no danger to the reactors.
...

We will get update after the failed Kherson attack by the Ukrainian in about five minutes.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1ettbWDNAQ]

Zelensky is getting increasingly frantic to show ANY movement against the Russians. If he cannot, there is a good chance he will not get his rearmament $$$$$ on Sept 8 when it comes up for review.

Update: Dima didn't discuss this failed Ukrainian attack today. It had occurred in the last several days but I don't remember where I read it. But, it was repulsed with high Ukrainian loses. I find it very difficult to get reports on Ukrainian losses from the MSM. They only show Ukrainian wins but go silent or try to spin their losses.

People are acting weird. Lots of violence, lots of crime that wasn’t going on a couple years back. Not political stuff but people who have discovered no matter how hard they work there isn’t much hope they are ever going to get anywhere. Crime pays better and it doesn’t require a drug test to begin working at it.

years ago as Tony Cartalucci who wrote in LandDestroyer and New Eastern Outlook. I have been following him for well over a decade.

Who is “Tony Cartalucci?”
October 29, 2020

(Brian Berletic - LD) - My name is Brian Joseph Thomas Berletic. I am a 38 year old American industrial designer living in Bangkok, Thailand since I left the United States Marine Corps and the US altogether in 2004.

Since I began writing about politics I have used pen names to conceal my identity for a variety of very common reasons many journalists, commentators, and pundits use pen names for.

A good breakdown of these reasons can be found on The Economist's website who also publishes their work anonymously.

Who Am I Really?
...
But in my "other life" since about 2009 I have also been involved in geopolitical analysis writing under the pen name "Tony Cartalucci" along with several others. I operate several blogs including LandDestroyer.blogspot.com and AltThaiNews.blogspot.com. The need for multiple accounts arises from obvious and continued attempts to censor my work. For example, AlThaiNews links are blocked by Twitter.

I also proudly contribute to New Eastern Outlook, a Russian-based journal focused on Eurasia. While critics claim that working for Russian media is somehow "wrong" - it was outfits like CNN, Fox, and the BBC who lied the Western public into the wars in Iraq, Libya, and Syria while Russian media opposed them all - raising facts at the time the Western media hid - facts that are now admitted even by the Western media itself.

My primary expertise is exposing US interference and military aggression around the globe and my main motivation was opposing US aggression like in Iraq from victimizing another country - including my adopted home - Thailand.

I used a pen name primarily to protect my family from the attacks I regularly come under from not only ordinary people who support US interference and war around the globe, but also the Western corporate media itself.

was less sanguine about these operations than Brian. I have quite a bit of respect for both of them, as intelligence analysts so I'm looking forward to Wyatt's next youtube on this same subject.

Two points to come to mind when I think about the differences in their approach on this so called counteroffensive. First, the US doesn't really care what happens to the Ukrainians, they are merely pawns on the great chessboard, in the vernacular of the beltway masters of universe. So should cost benefit analysis be measured according to the Ukraine v Russia list of losses and gains? The conflict really is a US v. Russia contest, where the US has found a proxy to take all the losses for them. In terms of the resources lost from the US/allied putative lend-lease support or whatever they want to call it, the MIC in the US, the contractor part of it anyway could care less. $$$$$$$

My second concern is sustainability. What the Ukrainians are doing may not seem so effective, taking a couple of kilometers along the borders of the two southern oblasts here and there. Probing with commandos and recon soldiers, perhaps losing a lot of them; they would probably be better off, stopping now, even retreating to the positions they started from, waiting a few weeks and doing it again sporadically, even at a lesser tempo, just as deadly harassment, but still of such a nature as to force the Russians to continue to spend resources to plug holes, and maintain the frontier. I don't think the US really cares about how effective it is. I think in US so called smart war operations, the goal is to keep it going for years, it doesn't really matter if a country and its social fabric is completely destroyed, and left as a failed state. This is really cynical and barbaric, but this is what the US has been doing for decades.

But, permanently taking territory is the price Ukraine will have to pay.

"People’s republics of Donbass approached Russia with a request for help. In connection therewith, I made the decision to hold a special military operation. Its goal is to protect the people that are subjected to abuse, genocide from the Kiev regime for eight years, and to this end we will seek to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine and put to justice those that committed numerous bloody crimes against peaceful people, including Russian nationals"

He is willing to take as long as it takes to accomplish this goal. Right now he is attempting to minimize the costs in lives of his forces while maximizing those of the Ukrainians backed by the US, UK and EU. So far the Ukrainians forces are playing his game.

You can see this plan in action in the following video. This tactical operation is discussed in the first portion of the following video:
