Welcome To Saturday
William Turner
Smiley asked me to cover for him today, as he mourns the death of his mother.
I will simply leave this for him ~
Some things will never change. Some things will always be the same. Lean down your ear upon the earth and listen.
The voice of forest water in the night, a woman's laughter in the dark, the clean, hard rattle of raked gravel, the cricketing stitch of midday in hot meadows, the delicate web of children's voices in bright air--these things will never change.
The glitter of sunlight on roughened water, the glory of the stars, the innocence of morning, the smell of the sea in harbors, the feathery blur and smoky buddings of young boughs, and something there that comes and goes and never can be captured, the thorn of spring, the sharp and tongueless cry--these things will always be the same.
All things belonging to the earth will never change--the leaf, the blade, the flower, the wind that cries and sleeps and wakes again, the trees whose stiff arms clash and tremble in the dark, and the dust of lovers long since buried in the earth--all things proceeding from the earth to seasons, all things that lapse and change and come again upon the earth--these things will always be the same, for they come up from the earth that never changes, they go back into the earth that lasts forever. Only the earth endures, but it endures forever.
The tarantula, the adder, and the asp will also never change. Pain and death will always be the same. But under the pavements trembling like a pulse, under the buildings trembling like a cry, under the waste of time, under the hoof of the beast above the broken bones of cities, there will be something growing like a flower, something bursting from the earth again, forever deathless, faithful, coming into life again like April.

Because of the time difference I’ll soon be sleeping. I’ll look forward to reading your sentiments in the morning.

For Smiley
Death is for the living
a refrain, often said,
when a loved one dies.
No words ring
with more
truth.
Becoming an orphan is
the ultimate circumstance
the living find when
parents expire.
It presents a new way of being.
Rejoice in the memories,
good and bad,
for they are what
developed your character
and those parts of
your parents that
live on within you.
Rejoice in the life you have.

The words of her verse sum up my h of my feelings. Sorry for your loss and hope you find comfort in the nature that surrounds you.
Life is what you make it, so make it something worthwhile.
This ain't no dress rehearsal!
Good morning Janis, thanks for doing this, and while it is
all yours, yet something of the style and spirit of smiley comes through it.
good morning to you too smiley. You have my deepest sympathy. I guess I could post Donne, or some haiku or koan or something but they would all seem trite. One never knows. At our age we know this day comes and face it and go through it in our own way and recover in our own time. Hope this helps take you there

The wheel of life...
must include death. One leads to the other and fits the pattern of existence.
Death is not the end. Death can never be the end.
Death is the road. Life is the traveler. The soul is the guide.
– Sri Chinmoy
Were you but lying cold and dead,
And lights were paling out of the West,
You would come hither, and bend your head,
And I would lay my head on your breast;
And you would murmur tender words,
Forgiving me, because you were dead:
Nor would you rise and hasten away,
Though you have the will of wild birds,
But know your hair was bound and wound
About the stars and moon and sun:
O would, beloved, that you lay
Under the dock-leaves in the ground,
While lights were paling one by one.

Remember happy times and smile through your tears. Remember funny things and laugh through your tears. You won't always hurt as much or be as sad as you are right now.

Smiley, so very saddened to hear of your Mother’s passing
It doesn’t seem to matter how old we are when we lose our Mothers, the grief is unlike anything before. Even as our friends and family gather around us, we can feel so alone in this world without our Mothers. My heart is with you, Smiley.

dear smiley, when my mother died,
I was not at her side, I had to fly the thousands of miles from the US to Germany, my son happened to fly in from Korea, and when we were there, it was such a terrible hectic time. Family members arranged thousands of things, I didn't care for. I was very confused and angry because I had the feeling I couldn't say Good Bye to her quietly and alone. I still can't forget the fact that I was not allowed and had no private time with her. Til today I am angry that my siblings, who had the chance (unlike me) to see her anytime, did everything but not mourn.
So, I wish for you to have and take time to mourn her in peace and quietness. She will always be with you, as mine always was and is with me. The longer she is gone the more I understand and respect and love her. Family members teil me I am like my mother. I admit that it it seems to be true.
My condolences and sympathy to you. May she rest in peace and may you have peace in your togetherness with her.
