Wars at Home and Abroad

Open Thread Image.jpg

The US brought the foreign wars back home. There were two county deputies walking around Trade Day yesterday. They looked like storm troopers with their vests and arms...militarized. Used to be Andy Griffith like, but no more. Here at home we have all the ice raids, the National Guard patrolling some streets, and murders/assassinations like Charlie Kirk's. Yesterday I went in our small grocery and asked if they had any chuckeye steaks. "No, we can't get them. Ice has been raiding all the processing plants, and they don't have enough help." That's all bad enough, but our widespread mischief overseas is over whelming. We've got color revolutions all over the world. Nepal being the most obvious this week. Last week it was Venezuela. Plus there's ongoing interference in Serbia, Georgia, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, and many other locations around the world. Is it possible to curb the US war machine? I can't see how...

Mike Benz: How NGOs and the CIA Hijacked Ukraine

(66 min) Mike Benz is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. State Department and the current Executive Director of the Foundation for Freedom Online. Benz discusses how the intelligence agencies use "non-governmental organisations" (NGOs) to hijack the civil society of other states, and how the US and its partners seized control over Ukraine. Benz has also given interviews to Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, Russel Brand and others.

Ursula on the Brink. German Chancellor Admits the Truth. France in Chaos.

(9 min) European chaos reaches breaking point as multiple crises converge across the continent. Von der Leyen faces no-confidence vote while France explodes in massive protests against Macron's lavish spending. Germany's chancellor admits Europe cannot negotiate as equals with America, revealing the true weakness behind EU rhetoric. Britain's migration disaster spirals out of control with more legal immigrants than the USA despite being forty times smaller. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence victims support groups emerge as technology addiction reaches dangerous new levels. This independent analysis cuts through mainstream media narratives to reveal what's really happening in European politics. From palace scandals in France to royal family controversies in Britain, these interconnected crises expose the growing instability threatening Western democratic institutions. European taxpayers fund African green energy projects while their own economies struggle. Political establishments across the continent face mounting pressure from both left and right opposition parties. Migration policies implemented after Brexit backfire spectacularly, creating unprecedented demographic challenges. The special relationship between Britain and America faces new tests as royal scandals complicate diplomatic relations.

Ursula von der Leyen Facing New Ouster Attempt After ‘Pro-War’ Address
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is facing two new motions of no confidence following her State of the Union address to the European Parliament this week. The Left faction filed its censure proposal on Thursday, a day after the right-wing Patriots for Europe group submitted a separate bid. Von der Leyen survived a previous no-confidence vote in July. Renewed efforts to remove the EU chief came after she urged stronger military support for Ukraine and proposed allowing foreign policy decisions without unanimous member-state approval – which dissenting member states, such as Hungary, view as a ploy to dismiss their objections.

It looks likely these drones were refitted after they landed in Ukraine and purposely flown over Poland to try to get the US/NATO involvement.

The EU is desperate to keep the Ukraine proxy war going. They are in economic collapse.

The US will press its G7 allies
to establish a legal framework for seizing frozen Russian state assets and channeling them to Ukraine, Bloomberg has reported, citing sources. Western nations froze an estimated $300 billion in Russian assets following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, some €200 billion of which are held by Brussels-based clearinghouse Euroclear. The funds have generated billions in interest, and the West has been exploring ways to use the revenue to finance Ukraine....
It also seeks sanctions on the so-called Russian ‘shadow fleet’ of oil tankers, energy giant Rosneft, and maritime insurance, along with measures against regional banks, firms linked to the defense sector, and curbs on AI and fintech services in Russian Special Economic Zones.

There are many economic levers they would like to use. I predict they will fail.
The European Union could sanction foreign banks that use Russia’s domestic alternative to the SWIFT interbank messaging system, as the bloc weighs another batch of measures targeting countries it claims are helping Moscow bypass restrictions, Euractiv has reported. Russia has been promoting its own payment system as a reliable alternative to SWIFT since many of the country’s financial institutions were cut off from the Western network in 2022. The System for Transfer of Financial Messages (SPFS) ensures the secure transfer of financial messages between banks both inside and outside the country.
France and Germany are spearheading the proposal to hit Russia’s trading partners as part of the bloc’s 19th sanctions package against Moscow, the outlet said on Tuesday

Remember the west is only about 12% of world population, but they intend to squeeze other countries... The targeted countries have alternatives.
Russia and China are working to set up a securities depository to rival Belgium-based Euroclear and Clearstream, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has said. In an interview with Izvestia published on Thursday, Siluanov said it is important to build “an independent payment infrastructure” in response to Western sanctions. Russian investors previously held funds at European clearing houses through Russia’s National Settlement Depository (NSD). Euroclear and Clearstream stopped transactions with NSD and froze its accounts after sanctions were imposed against it in mid-2022, preventing investors from accessing their assets.
The Bank of Russia has estimated that around 5.7 trillion rubles ($66.8 billion) remains blocked. Siluanov said the role of a new depository would be assumed by a planned Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Development Bank, which would enable Russians to invest in foreign assets and foreign investors to finance projects in Russia. “We would like this bank – perhaps on its basis, or by itself – to create opportunities for our investors in our countries to freely buy and sell securities in any countries. In other words, to perform such an independent depository function,” the finance minister explained.

As far as their own people, they use propaganda.
How the EU Pays Mainstream Media to Promote Its Narratives
The unelected leadership of the evidently corrupt European Union (EU) is now paying mainstream media to promote the agendas of its EU “elites.” The EU appears to have spent as much as 1 billion euros during the past decade alone in the process, according to a recent report, “Brussels’s media machine: European media funding and the shaping of public discourse,” by Thomas Fazi, from the European think tank MCC Brussels. Framing the projects as “fighting disinformation” and “promoting European integration” the EU has been throwing taxpayer money, conservatively estimated at €80 million annually, to “media projects” — not including indirect funding, such as advertising contracts. The report also shows that the EU runs a highly sophisticated “EU media complex” through which it gets to shape media narratives about itself and its agendas.According to Fazi’s report:
“The European Commission – through its Journalism Partnerships programme alone, with a cumulative budget approaching €50 million to date – oversees a vast ecosystem of EU media ‘collaborations.’ Over the years, these have included hundreds of projects, ranging from pro-EU promotional campaigns to questionable ‘investigative journalism’ initiatives and sweeping ‘anti-fake news’ efforts. And that’s on top of the advertorial campaigns funded through the Information Measures for the EU Cohesion policy (IMREG) programme, to the tune of €40 million so far… “Even more concerning is the central role played by major European public broadcasters in this process. These projects show that this is not a matter of one-off collaborations, but rather an evolving semi-structural relationship between EU institutions and public media networks.”

NATO has announced a new military exercise intended to deter Russia, after Poland accused Moscow of violating its airspace with drones.
...
The Russian Defense Ministry has said its drone operations are directed at Ukrainian military targets and none were aimed at Poland. The ministry added that “the maximum range of Russian drones that allegedly crossed the Polish border is less than 700 km,” adding it was ready to conduct consultations with Warsaw.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “the leadership of the EU and NATO accuse Russia of provocations on a daily basis, most often declining to offer any arguments.” Peskov also insisted that Moscow “has never threatened” anyone, including European countries. “It was not Russia that moved its military infrastructure towards Europe, but Europe – which is a part of NATO, an instrument of confrontation and not peace and stability — that has always been moving it toward our border.

Assassinations at home and abroad
The attempted murder of the Hamas negotiators by Israel with the cooperation of the US, Saudi Arabia, and others is nothing new for us. Trump did it in his last term inviting General Soleimani to Iraq for peace talks and then assassinating him. It happened again in Iran recently as the US pretended to hold peace talks as they allow Israel to attack and then we bombed them. Who would trust the US to deal in good faith? Only the foolish.

All week US news has been fixated on Charlie Kirk's murder. I wasn't familiar with his work. Prior to this week I had only heard reference to him. I saw a couple of clips this week and my take away was he had very strong Christian beliefs. I admire the way he would try to engage others in persuasive conversation, but I see the world through a different lens. However to kill him for his beliefs is going way too far, and points to the degree of degradation we face in the US.

(43 min) Larry C. Johnson: Charlie Kirk Assassination Twist + Trump’s Tariff War CRUMBLING
Larry writes:
I am very troubled by the unbridled hatred some are expressing towards Charlie Kirk. It is callous, inhuman and evil in my view. Charlie did something remarkable in building up Turning Point USA into a potent political player. I do not agree with nor endorse all of his statements during his brief career. But I also recognize that he was still a young man who was changing some of his positions, particularly with reference to the Zionist cause. We will never know if he would have made the full conversion to denouncing the Zionist genocide of the Palestinians, but I believe he was on his way. The key point is that nothing he said justified the use of force to silence him. If you don’t understand that, then you are a morally flawed person in my view. You only kill someone who poses an imminent threat to you of death or grievous bodily harm. Anything short of that is murder.

with husband and 2 grands. It is very different from the Portland vibe, which is of the so-called ‘woke’ persuasion. More rural areas are more likely to have a more healthy connection with nature that often includes growing and hunting their own food. In spite of the cold winters, black flies, deer flies, moose flies and mud seasons I think often about living out the remainder of my life in a small wood heated cabin near the grandkids. It’s that nice.

Listening to his show, one can really feel connected to the world. Specifically to the world that wants to rid themselves of the United States and Europe.

I feel now that this global transformation is well underway, in large part, thanks to China. Its national demonstration of what can be achieved when the people come together in cooperation, and from the bottom-up, develop a consensus and a singular vision for the future — and then choose a system of government that can help them fulfill their vision and at the same time, make them prosperous.

Meanwhile, China's generosity toward the rest of the world is something truly astonishing. The Belt and Road will bring opportunity and prosperity to ordinary people thoughout the world, and enhance true global communication between all cultures, putting an end to imperial dominance and manipulation.

China has given to the world an example of Modern Socialism in action, as it perfects itself and adjusts to global changes and challenges.

This is a beautiful and decent thing. I'm so glad I got to see it in my lifetime. It is also the only hope that humanity has for restoring and stabilizing the environment of the planet. This is something that China will achieve for all humankind.

It would be wonderful if I could escape the collapse of the United States, but I don't think that is likely.

excellent recapitulation of financial history going back to Jesus and the money lenders. Putin's way of dealing with the oligarchs who tried to sell off Russian resources to the highest bidder was risky but he made it work.

I watched several French TV reports and panels on the no confidence vote and failure of the current government. What was hard to listen to was the panel participants and the English speaking TV host on France 24 supposedly analyzing what people object to on the proposed budget. What was highlighted was that 'boomers' are taking the majority of the money in the system to maintain a cushy way of life especially in retirement. Not a word about the military costs and the billions given to the cause of Ukraine.

Sowing seeds of inter class adversity and blaming the older groups for the declining standards of living was the order of the broadcast. The quality of life for most age groups is in decline: medical care; education; healthy food and environment and so much more. The retirees are barely hanging on, rather than lapping up easy living. Not what we see.

So much to write about but I am very disturbed by the mood sweeping many quarters where reporting neighbors and colleagues for speaking or promoting hate by saying in essence he deserved to die in or on social media. A person's employer can suspend or fire a reported person for hate speech. This reminds me of the later waves of Salem witch trials ensnaring more and more as the pitch became shrill. This is horrible.

It appears that Charlie was willing to look at his own beliefs and to check them out in real life. Sometimes he changed his mind on significant issues. Gaza was certainly on his mind.

The did he have a gun or not is a big issue I don't know how we will know if what we read or hear is the truth. Was this truly a lone gunman or mk ultra redux.

I had no idea until last week how often Hitler tried to reach a detente with the British and others to no avail. They wanted the war and they wanted him or someone like him moving the German people. The Zelensky of WW 2.

Finally, is there no one in power in the west who is not within one degree of separation of Epstein? The British ambassador to the US and best buddy of JE may be the real puppet master of the Starmer government. The people are in the streets in not just London but throughout Britain. The recognition that the political classes are working for globalists is spreading.

As they are in the cities of France. The countryside is quiet so far.

...on anyone who gets outside the box. The good thing is it seems less and less effective.

Any protest in Germany like UK and France? Have not heard of any. Blackrock Mertz isn't doing anything good for Germany, that's for sure. Whatta corporate shill. Not that Trump is some great gift with his bloviating and arrogance.

TPTB ain't going down easy. If they're taken down it will be slow and painful. I'm not holding my breath.

Hope all is well in your world as we watch it crash and crumble.

Probably not news to people who pay attention but the coming war in Europe had its foundation with Clinton the the MIC. Good article by one BRIAN MCDONALD. An Irish ex-pat working in Russia. Read him daily as he debunks Western propaganda with facts and receipts. I believe he left RT over the invasion of Ukraine, but did it without fanfare.

Lockheed Martin, lamb chops, and landlocked navies: the real story of NATO expansion and how this Yale historian tried to stop it

What was interesting is how the demonization of Russia was part of the strategy for profit and expansion:

And as for the objective, well, the talk was vague, alternating between democratization and integration, while privately, one official from a new member state admitted the real point was to show “once and for all that the Russians never have been and never will be part of European civilization.”

And there it was in all its raw xenophobia... not inclusion, but exclusion elevated into principle with the kind of sneer that should have been buried after the 1940s.

BTW Andrew Cockburn of Harper's wrote a book called "The Spoils of War: Power, Profit and the American War Machine", which details how defense contractors and other vested interests have driven U.S. military policies, including the expansion of NATO in the post-Soviet era. For some reason anti-imperialist left does not mention or talk about this detailed rendering.

BTW again...from Brian..he comes up all of these sorts of things like exposing that Russians drinking LESS booze per capita than Germans and Italians. Maybe even French also. This was due to reforms on the selling of alcohol hours and I believe eliminating street kiosks selling booze. In some areas no more beer sales to teenagers.

...in Yugoslavia. That war created the precedent of carving out countries that vote themselves out of a larger state. (how Kosovo was created). Same process Russia has used in Crimea and the Donbas.

It also lays bare our strategy of breaking countries in to more manageable pieces. Over and over again my friend.

Thanks for the link and the X post!

...pieces representing the North and the South. Despite the war of brothers, in the evenings they would often share songs along the lines. Music is a way to unite us all.

“The “Battle Cry of Freedom” was composed by professional song writer George F. Root, for a July 1862 Chicago war rally. The rally was in support of President Abraham Lincoln‘s call for an additional 300,000 volunteers to fill the ranks of the shrinking Union Army. The song was published In 1862 by Root’s own firm, Root & Cady of Chicago, and became one of the most popular Northern War songs. It was so popular that the production of 14 printing presses could not keep up with the demand. It has been estimated that approximately 500,000 copies were put in circulation.
Federal soldiers soldiers sang “Battle Cry of Freedom “ in camp, on the march and in the most desperate battlefield situations. At Vicksburg a battered Iowa regiment sang it as they struggled to regroup. During the 1864 Wilderness Battle, the 45th Pennsylvania began singing it as their regiment was on the verge of defeat from rebel General Longstreet’s flank attack. “Soon the entire brigade was singing the defiant song,” wrote William Wiley of the 77th Illinois, and good order was restored.
Southerners recognized a good thing when they heard it and soon came up with their own words to the melody. “Southron’s Battle Cry of Freedom” was a parody of Root’s song. The lyricist of this version was William H. Barnes. He was the manager of an ensemble of musicians, the “Atlanta Amateurs,” who performed for the benefit of soldiers' relief charities. J.C. Schreiner & Son of Macon and Savannah, published this version in 1864.”

THE BONNIE BLUE FLAG

Borrowing the melody from a catchy Irish folk tune called "The Irish Jaunting Car" (popular in the mid-1850's Victorian British Isles), the 1861 “Bonnie Blue Flag” lyrics were written by Harry McCarthy, a comedian and song-and-dance performer, who emigrated from Ireland in 1849. Calling himself the 'Arkansas Comedian', he and his wife Lottie toured throughout the south in the antebellum years, giving what they called 'personation' shows.
A narrative tale, this famous early war patriotic song was sung throughout the conflict. The words tell the story of the state-by- state formation of the Confederacy in their order of secession. Published in no fewer than six editions from 1861 to 1864, the song soon became hugely popular with both southern soldiers and civilians, and was even banned by the Union commander in the publisher's home town of New Orleans. McCarthy and his wife sang it for Jefferson Davis's inauguration as President of the young Confederacy, in Montgomery, Alabama, in February of ’61.
The “call and response” we talk about in the lead-in to our performance came about when we learned the story of Polk Miller, who was born & raised on an Old South plantation, where he learned to play the banjo as he grew older. In 1861, he joined the Confederate army and fought with the Richmond Howitzers. In the years after the war, he became a very successful pharmacist, but ultimately left his business to his son in order to pursue a new musical career playing banjo, performing plantation songs and spirituals, and telling stories learned in his youth as he and his 4-man African-American “Old South Quartet”, toured the country in the 1890’s.
In 1909 Richmond, Virginia, making use of the new Edison Cylinder, the latest thing in sound technology, he and the Old South Quartet recorded themselves performing “The Bonnie Blue Flag”. In his introduction to their recording, Miller says that the “Hurrah-HURRAH!” call-and-response was the way the soldiers sang it during the war.

Have a great week, and see you next Sunday!

After listening to Korea pillorying Japan for decades about “Comfort Women” — to whose historical memory there is even a Korean-sponsored monument here in Germany — this week I learned that, the whole time, South Korea was doing the same damn thing to its own women citizenry for the benefit of U.S. troops stationed there:

@lotlizard ran from 1972 through 1983 about an Army medical unit. The officers frequented local South Korean and Japanese brothels for "rest and recuperation". America's best traditions brought into our living rooms each week.

A justification often cited for brothels was it protected the local population from predation by an occupying force or military base. The other option would be local legal prosecution, but not an option in most areas of the world. The power of Chain of Command in the military, intelligence and diplomatic communities would be weakened if locals were allowed to meddle.

In a boat that’s built of sticks and hay,
We drifted from the shore,
With a captain who’s too proud to say,

In this cheap pontoon,
Now the hull has started growing weak,
And we’re gonna be sinkin’ soon.

I took my usual note of the local gendarmerie wandering the street. They really have gone full metal jacket, here lately. They used to be just walking around, in uniform, smiling, flashing the badge, and kissing babies. Now it is the full flak jacket, the full tactical loadout, the full permanent glower, the full massive load of weapons and spare ammo.

Lots of buzz cuts, steroid-enhanced muscles, and tattoos: they look like skinheads doing civilization-cosplay. All they need to do is put on their helmet and grab a long gun, and we got yer shootout right here. They aren't carrying long guns fulltime, yet, but it won't be long. They look like they are at the site of the battle already, and are just waiting for the first gunshot sound to "fear for their lives", and waste everyone within 20 yards.

I have always said that there is something fundamentally wrong with any society in which the first response of an everyday citizen to the sight of a cop is *fear*.

And here we are. Those bastards fine gentlemen scare the living, breathing shit out of me, and we beat feet out of there toot sweet after we made the one purchase we had in mind. Not a fan.

That was the last of the Palisade peaches for the year. Fall is here...

@QMS

I've never trusted the cops. However, having seen them make a very abrupt transition from "community policing" into "don't you know there's a war on- move along, citizen", fulltime, is really offputting. Up until this weekend, they didn't generally look as if they were really gunning for the population- but after last week, they are all in on chip-on-the-shoulder, barely contained 'roid rage. The glower was new, and very serious. It was palpable.

You can just see the thoughts running across their single synapse: "some of those people at this here farmer's market might be libruls, doncha know, and *those* people just blow up at the drop of a hat. So we'd better be ready to obliterate them (and everybody else on the block) at a moment's notice, and ask questions later."

I question the need for our local police officers to be fully done up in their SWAT gear to go to the goddamned farmer's market. Up in Denver, maybe- up there, they've been blowing away the innocent for years now, and my expectations are set whenever I go into town. But down here in rural-adjacent Parker?

It is sad, but it is the state of the world now, I guess. I was just waiting for one of our local open-carry MAGAs to square off with one of them.

a pretty good-sized 'burb, so while there is a chance that I know them, it is a relatively slim one. Send me a PM, and I'll see if they are among my dwindling list of acquaintances. They wouldn't be a musician, would they? Or another sailor?

One of my neighbors just moved out to Florida with her partner of many years. Captain Sandy Yawn (if you ever watch the TV "reality" show Below Decks) just lived right up the street, another landlocked sailor. Used to run into her in the grocery store all the time- but then she got famous and went all Hollywood. She's too big for this little place now...
